(Please bare with me, my keyboard is very broken atm, making this very hard to type, so I apologise if I miss anything. - I don't actually have a t key right now, I'm copy-pasting the letter every time + some other issues.)
Chat mods in the game, from my (brief) interaction with them, are hilariously biased. I typed "Wheee~" after winning the Bantam WG Global Sub championship, and I was immediately told to "Not Spam". Beyond being wrong about spamming (it was one message which was something like 10 characters total..), it was the first (and only) thing I'd typed in chat in the past hour. I responded (as anyone would, I'd hope..) to the Mod, telling him that it isn't spamming (because it flat out isn't..), and suddenly three other mods are telling me not to argue with mods (essentially, telling me that even if he was wrong, it didn't matter).
In fairness, the next thing I said was rude: I said "If my keyboard wasn't broken, I'd tell you why what you've said is extremely silly". Instantly, I was chatbanned, and the mods started patting themselves on the back. Solid work.
Is this what I should expect from chat mods? Blatant superiority complexes and them essentially making it pointless to look at the chatbox? |: I'm not sure if here's a chatbox archive, or I'd paste the relevant (and surrounding entries for transparencies sake)
edit:: Just like to add that I have no way to take screenshots, but two of the mods were Jeff SubZero and Xtreme.

I can't comment on the exact situation, but posting "wheeeeeeeeeeeee" would be letter spam, as you've posted any letter more than 5 times (excessively) in a sentence - this is likely what you were called for.
As for the ban, I can't comment.

As for the ban, I can't comment. It wasn't anywhere near that excessive: at most, it was ~5 times: it wasn't even enough to trigger a second line. I'm now perm banned from chat because of this whole thing, though..

I can understand letter spam: I didn't excessively spam letters, and this is where your ability to discern whether someone is spamming to annoy / disrupt others or posts one message after they win something slightly important. I didn't only post "...........", that's a lie: the post was preceeded with ...... as I was, quite honestly, pretty speechless when you're going to all (the few mods that were on at the time) complain about a single message. Xtreme enigma wrote: flaming staff is an instant ban.
I didn't flame you guys: I wouldn't ever flat out flame chatmods because I understand that you guys are the reason we're able to have a clean chat: I've been an admin on multiple servers in CS/CSS etc. I said that you guys were silly, because it was silly. You should be able to discern between someone maliciously breaking the rules (and warn them, obviously) and someone who breaks them once. Instant warnings aren't a good way to portray yourself, because then the people who have been abused through chat before (such as myself) and seen nothing done about it can get pretty annoyed. Thanks for the update ^^;

Howdy, I was not involved in the incident but did witness all of it and to be quite honest the chat mods handled it very well and they were inforcing the rules... The rules of the game state; Any post made that is considered pointless is spam. Posting match results will also be considered Spam. Posting too many links to match results can also result in spam, at the Moderator's discretion. Posting excessive amounts of letters or symbols in an otherwise legitimate post is also considered spam. As a general rule, any letter or symbol repeated more than 5 times is considered spam, though if it is done excessively (multiple times within a post) a moderator may consider less than that to be spam. you posted two posts breaking the rule of having a letter or symbol repeated for having 5 or more letters, thus the mods first gave you a caution, not a warning that would lead to a ban but a simple caution like a piece of advice just so you wouldnt repeat your rule break, y then broke the rules again by breaking the above rule the mods could have gave you a warning at this point but should restraint and gave you another chance, then you started arguing with the mods breaking these rules ; 6.1: Rules Questions: If you have any questions about any of the rules, as to what is allowed or what isn't, please don't post in chat. PM a moderator the question as posting it in chat could result in a rules violation, and ultimately get you warned. "If in doubt, PM a Mod." 6.3: Arguing with a Moderator: If a moderator makes a call you don't agree with, please do not argue with them in chat, rather PM the moderator and politely request an explanation of their decision, and explain your side of the story with tact. In some cases you may even succeed in changing the moderator's mind about your warning, if you approach them correctly. and i can confirm it was not a lie, you did only have one seperate post with dots on it no other text! Quote: I said that you guys were silly, because it was silly. You should be able to discern between someone maliciously breaking the rules (and warn them, obviously) and someone who breaks them once. Instant warnings aren't a good way to portray yourself, because then the people who have been abused through chat before (such as myself) and seen nothing done about it can get pretty annoyed. You did not get an Instant warning, you got asked not to do something twice!! No warnings in that, no one in chat mentioned warnings, the mods as i said showed a lot of restraint as they could have warned you for breaking the rules but they didnt. Also calling someone silly is a flame, you are insulting someone and since you done that you broke this rule; 2.3: Flaming and Instigating Staff Members: The staff volunteer their time to help make TWG run smoothly as a whole. Therefore it is counterproductive to the flow of the entire chat to insult them or try to cause them to break any rules. This offense can result in an instant ban at the moderator's discretion. ...and as you see when you do this you can get instant banned, now if you pm'd the mods in question and explain what you meant you would have probably been unbanned, its happened before and will happen again, I think people forget this bit, if you are polite and explain yourself, we are often helpful in return..going to the fourms and making everything public is not a way to go about things.. and as the mods said before there is already a line of complaint you take before going to the fourms message the mod message Jin message Abdel then and only then you take it to the topic already posted in the fourms

If you think their actions is someone showing restraint, either you have had a very sheltered life or don't really understand the meaning of the word.. Please don't take this as a personal attack, but giving someone a second chance isn't restraint: restraint would be able to analyse each situation on a case-by-case basis before passing judgement. the personification wrote: Quote: I said that you guys were silly, because it was silly. Also calling someone silly is a flame, you are insulting someone and since you done that you broke this rule; Are you kidding me, saying that I didn't get an instant warning? I think it was two-- maybe three lines under my message that I was told to "Not spam the chat". A message which doesn't even take up a line of chat is considered spam: consider this scenario. If I posted a link to my match (thus triggering a "View Match" link, of course) and said "New Global Champion, yay!" it would not be considered spam, whilst taking up more space than my previous message which conveyed the same meaning. You mustn't try to judge everything based upon a one-size fits-all rule: it will only lead to confrontation. Using judgement is a much better way of enforcing rules. A police officer could ticket, or arrest, a person for Jaywalking, but most people aren't even warned as they are able to use judgement upon if it was inconveniencing someone, or placing someone in harms way. the personification wrote: 2.3: Flaming and Instigating Staff Members: The staff volunteer their time to help make TWG run smoothly as a whole. An instant ban for a first time offence: if that is the state of the chatbox, then I'd rather be banned.. honestly, does that seem like a place you'd like to chat? One strike and you're out-- forever? Even if it was an accident (I wasn't aware that my message would be taken so harshly by the mods..). I do agree that I should've pm'ed the mods in question: addressing it in chat was likely silly on my behalf, but bringing it to the forums is not: transparency of how things like this are dealt with sets a huge tone on how they will be dealt with in the future. the personification wrote: and as the mods said before there is already a line of complaint you take before going to the fourms
message the mod message Jin message Abdel then and only then you take it to the topic already posted in the fourms Fair enough, will follow the guideline if (hopefully it doesn't) another problem occurs. While responding, I just want to point one thing out: Quote: and i can confirm it was not a lie, you did only have one seperate post with dots on it no other text! As far as I remember, that's wrong: my keyboard was acting up (have since replaced it with a much older keyboard for the time being) and could possibly have done this, I didn't see this happen, nor was I warned / told off for this. The problem we have here is it's going to be my word vs yours (yours being the collective mods word, as I'm sure you'll all back each-other up).

The first two times were just caution (as described above) which means they don't even go on your record, but if you disagree with a mods call, the rules do state PM the mod in question, if you still disagree, PM the moderator supervisor (S1: Retribution, S2: Rune, S3: Jin) and then if you're still unsatisfied PM the server manager (S1: The Nemesis, S2: Masterful Lovelady, S3: Kyrax) the matter will be resolved. As a mod, I've been pmed a couple times when I was wrong, and I saw their point, and I've removed the warning and/or ban. However if they were to go and complain in chat, and that, I would tend to be less lenient as they weren't following the proper protocols. Quote: The problem we have here is it's going to be my word vs yours (yours being the collective mods word, as I'm sure you'll all back each-other up). Not necessarily true. If the mod was right, we stick together, however if the mod made a mistake, at least I personally do this, I pm the mod for either a) further explanation, or b) to explain what happened wrong. As humans we all can make mistakes.

I understand that the correct course of action would be to pm the people person by person; as I said above, I'll do that next time if there is an issue, although I sincerely hope there isn't. As for your second point, I meant that without evidence, you're much more likely to take the word of a fellow mod than of a random player, such as myself.

Perhaps the arguing on this should stop and a forum mod should lock it as proceedure has not been followed? Like persi said, you go to jin first, no answer there go to abdel, no answer there post on forums - after that the only person responding should be the person concerned, the sspervisor and an admin.

Agreed; Knew I'd forgotten something first time around. Topic locked.
