I've read many of the posts in this thread and I have to say many of you guys hit the nail right on the head. WWE faces many problems in these days, such as:
1. Pushing some "talents" way too much.
2. Quality of the shows are way lower than ever before.
3. Overall, WWE is not as exciting as ever.
1. "Talents".
I can remember there were legends in the WWF. Not particularly good wrestlers were legends right when they were introduced. Undertaker, can't forget that. He had an exceptional gimmick(no selling due to supernatural powers). It was interesting.
There were some who could entertain, like "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and The Rock. Can't forget those segments either. What about Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels(maybe I shouldn't mention these two in one sentence, but wth). Or what about wrestlers like Lita, who were interesting in their own right, even when they haven't said anything at all, just because they were astonishing to watch perform.
These are just a few, but you may get the idea.
Today, the company is stuck between SuperCena's merch sales and him being utterly hated. If anyone ever was a tweener, it's him.
He isn't the only one though. Orton used to be interesting, maybe when he was a Legend Killer, just because you wanted to know who's next. Though that wasn't original at all. When I think about who's next, I think about Goldberg.
The biggest problem about overuse of stars is that you neglect those who are younger, ie. the future of the company. That is where we are today. The company can overpush their top retail values in order to get more income, but they don't recognize or don't care that this gets old fast, the result: less income. Quick money without thinking about the future.
2. Quality
Right now, I believe WWE has some serious issues using their talents. The problem is that wrestling today is far faster paced then ever before. Back in the old days, feuds often lasted for a year, try to to pull that off today and ratings will go even lower. I think the fans are impatient, but WWE fails to realize it's because of their incompetence regarding their inability to use their FULL roster.
Creatives
I could go on about this forever, really. Creatives are not creative at all. Although, a couple of months back allowing Punk to say what the fans REALLY think was unexpected, even for me.
3. Disappointment
Yes, PG sucks, we all agree on that. But this is just on aspect. This isn't the first PG era. Cena is something Hogan was back in the day, the target audience were kids. It worked. It ended as well. It can't go on forever.
RAW should always end with the spectator thinking:"I can't wait to see what happens next" and what do we have today? Ratings go way lower on the second part of the show. Clearly, the fans don't give a damn anymore.
Personally, I never liked Jericho and I'm not going to start right now, so bringing back him does not excite me whatsoever. It might do good for WWE though, but seeing how the company fails to use their talents, I can hardly imagine him staying for long. But who knows.
So, how to make WWE better?
1. Bring up talents. 1 per year won't suffice.
2. Do something, anything with the divas and the tag team division too.
3. Entertain us. WWE is not wrestling, but entertainment. Good. Then do so.
My personal opinion, WWE executives have no idea whatsoever what they're doing and that stems from not being able to put a finger on what made them successful in the past.
My personal scapegoat is none other than Vince McMahon. Someone who doesn't understand what heel or face are, reflects incompetence. On a side note, I bet he thinks he is the godfather of the wrestling world, but in my opinion he got lucky once and it lasted over a decade. But it's over.
I was essentially gonna post pretty much this lol
