Ask TWG Three Way Dance Issue 3

Back to home

Without too much prelude, let us jump in.  If you asked a question in previous weeks that you feel deserved to be answered, just post it again and we'll try to get to it; every week we have to take three dozen questions and whittle it down to 7-8, so we can't do everyone's.  Sorry!

Please ask Questions by the comments section, not PM.

This week's panel:
-A Year In The Life Of's Poe
-Grand Overlord Head Staff Writer, Your Guiding Light and ECW X-Press Recapper Who Can Give Himself an Extremely Long Title Because He's Posting The Story, The Glide
-Vince from Monday Night Vince-stigation

1. Who is the most overrated Wrestler in the WWE? (fakeangel)

Poe: Triple H, easily. His move set isn't even all that impressive. Spinning spinebusters, facebreaker knees to the face as counters to a running opponent. And don't forget the high knee strike. Really, he's not that impressive as a wrestler and relies on power, physique and popularity to keep himself on top. Oh, and the whole "being married to the boss' daughter," thing.

Glide:  Overrated in terms of how good they are versus how good WWE makes them out to be?  Coin flip between two dandy Internet Antichrists in Cena and Multiple H’s.  On the other hand, I think some of the ‘talented wrestlers’ tend to be overrated by internet writers.  In particular, the love for Undertaker nauseates me just a little; don’t get me wrong, I am massively impressed by men that can still go at that age, but his overall act annoys me and he’s slowing down in the ring.

Vince:  That is (by a longshot) John Cena. Everybody correctly predicted he'd win at Armageddon. Everybody got sick of his 13 month title reign. Everybody wants him to change; turn heel or start doing something other than saluting the children.

I swear on My Mother's grave if I hear John Cena's retarded trumpets playing at the end of the next PPV, I'll find out where he lives.

2. Who would make the best world champ in 2009? (Collective Soul)

Poe: That depends on which belt you’re talking about. I personally think that John Morrison should get a run at the WWE Championship (sometime after Jeff's done with it, that is). His charisma, athleticism and overall ability in the ring is almost surreal at times. The only problem is that I don't know if they'd keep him teamed up with The Miz if he was holding a Singles' belt. And right now, as a tag team, they're one of the best things the WWE has going for it.

Glide:  If we’re talking men who absolutely must get a world title in the next twelve months in a JUSTICE-DEMANDS-IT kind of way, you can’t pass up The Shaman of Sexy, Tuesday Night Delight, John Morrison.  He’s been putting on phenomenal matches ever since his ECW debut and I think he’s more than suited to carry the title (not the ECW title, we’re talking real belts) during the low-key season after Summerslam next year.

I’d also go for MVP, but that’s another rant for another day.

Vince:  You can't disagree. Because if you do, people will point and laugh derisively. KANE. The Big Red Monster has been getting back to his roots (wanting to kill Mysterio, Tombstombing Miz,) and it's about time he got his due at The Royal Rumble for his primo performances.

This year, depending on Shawn Michaels' Rumble performance, Kane could set the record for most Rumbles entered and most overall eliminations. *BOOM*

3. Who deserves the biggest push? (SCC)

Poe: Once again John Morrison comes to mind. But this time with The Miz alongside him. These two are the future of the WWE, like it or not, and they need to get into the upper echelons before a mob of the older guys retire. Obviously Morrison is like a young Shawn Michaels (sans high pants). And The Miz reminds me of Eddie Guerrero for some reason. But yea, they need pushed. Harder than they're being pushed now.

Glide:  I could list a lot of guys right now.  Relative to where they are now, Val Venis certainly.  Val should be at the least an IC champ, and to those who go “he’s not over enough with the crowd”…pfft.  He would be if he hadn’t been booked like a jobber for four years and then pulled off television for one.  Why Venis is still on the roster through the budget cuts if they have no intent of using him is a bit perplexing.  Other than that, as above, John Morrison and MVP.

Vince: Push Mr. Kennedy through the roof. He was the hottest commodity SD! had before he got injured. The crowd hasn't been cheering him as hard during his appearances lately... if that can change, I'm thinking someone will be taking that Title from Jeff Hardy awfully quickly.

If Kennedy doesn't make it back soon enough, make Umaga team with The Undertaker. RAAH!

4. Who won a Slammy and you really think did not deserve it? (Brandon "The Ripper" Ripley)

Poe: Chris Jericho. His latest villainous persona is lame, his wrestling lately is lame and frankly, even though this sounds a bit shallow of me the ring attire he's wearing looks ridiculous on him. Where the hell is The Rock to verbally slap him back into reality? (And a pair of wrestling PANTS, not those sausage-making manties). Chris Jericho used to be a funny heel. Whatever happened to that?

Glide:  Those who have read me for a while knows that I find true, absolute joy in the times that the WWE completely and utterly pulls the wool over my eyes and does something that I was not ready for in any way, shape or form.  If you’re looking for ‘what does that really mean’, example:  My three favorite moments of the last three years are not matches or promos, they are all surprise returns:  3) RVD returns at the RAW Family Reunion, 2) Cena returns at the Royal Rumble, and 1) Michaels returns to RAW to deal out some Sweet Chin Music to Randy Orton.  So for a guy who absolutely lives for shockers, it was disappointing to see Cena’s Rumble appearance passed over for Punk’s win, which frankly my reaction to that wasn’t “Oh my god!” but “umm…okay.”

Vince: The least deserving Slammy Award Winner was CM Punk. He's BEEN pushed through the roof, he's won several different titles this year. There were moments that made me mark out, and one of them was not cashing in MITB.

But I giggled when Edge lost his title because his "wife"  is a horse. EXCUSE ME!

5. Who will Cena drop the title to? (Chris Taylor)

Poe: If the Gods smile upon the World Heavyweight Championship they'll give Kane another go at it. There are three face champions right now. Three. And while happy-feely is all good for the holiday season, Kane needs to wrap his paws around that thing and go on a mud-stomping run with it. Let him dominate for six or seven months then pass it on to someone like Orton. Quit using the Big Red Machine as a Big Red Tool.

Glide:  I think the writing on the wall says that Cena will hold the title until Mania, when he faces off with Batista.  I don’t think Dave takes it unless he holds his career hostage (real mature, Dave), so Cena will be coming out of Mania with the belt.  At which point I do think one Mr. Randall Orton will be ready to main event again, and with the awesome year he had last year he has my full permission to run with RAW’s belt however he sees fit.

Vince: Call me anything you wish. Call me biased, stupid, old, whatever. The hope in my heart says Kane. He's in that Fatal-4-way Tournament thingy next week, and somehow I think HBK's going to be distracted by JBL's ominous cloud of doom.

And who wants to be distracted against a 320 pound lovesick monster?

6. Who would you like to see as the top champion of the current titles? (Randy Denosha)

Poe: You already know who I want to see as WWE and WH Champions from a couple of the previous questions (Morrison and Kane). So I'll focus on the ECW belt. First, make it an official world title already, WWE... SERIOUSLY. Secondly, put it around Finlay's waist and let him rule ECW for awhile while the young punks get some in-ring experience. The man has worked hard and come back from a nearly career-ending injury to put on some truly amazing matches and he hasn't received his due from WWE. Just a leprechaun - one that doesn't even have a pot of gold.

Glide:  RAW:  Shawn Michaels
Smackdown:  John Morrison
ECW:  Evan Bourne

Sure, that is quite a little shuffle of the brand extension what with Bourne apparently now being on RAW.  But ha, like WWE cares about the brand extension.

Vince: The question is gave me an epic headache. I hope you meant brands...Did you?
RAW: If not Kane, Santino Marella.
SD: If not Mr. Kennedy or Umaga, Jeff Hardy is just fine.
ECW: Tommy Dreamer. FTW. He can get the job DONE.

7. Do you think Benoit should ever be inducted into the HOF? (Stefan Escayg)

Poe: Yes. Despite what he did it wasn't something he planned when he was in a good state of mind, obviously. People do horrible things when their minds are screwed up. Its just too bad he couldn't get the help he so desperately needed before such a terrible tragedy happened. A good man did a bad thing because his brain wasn't right. I was never a fan of his but I do support remembering what he did for the business.

Glide:  I think Chris Benoit’s ring accomplishments are more than worth the Hall berth.  But I would never, ever encourage WWE to open the can of worms that that would cause in terms of media attention.  Let the fans who want to remember Benoit as a Hall of Famer do so privately, there is no need to make a public spectacle of such a controversial man.

Vince: Yes, I do, but no, he won't.

WWE would not dare tread on that thin ice. I hate talking about it but I firmly believe he was in serious pain.

His best friend died, closer than a brother - and I still sometimes think about the last weekend of his life compared to the 20 years he awed us.

As a performer, yes, as a person, it's debatable. It's almost comforting to blame it on his mental condition - but he did what he did, and he knew what he was doing. Eh.

8. What WWE Legend would you love to see come back to WWE, whether it be full time or just part time? (Medos)

Poe: I'd like to see "Superfly" come and wrestle as a team with his son for a short program. He was the original high-flyer, after all. A lot of people in the WWE owe their careers to what he did with his. And that's all I really have to say about that.

Glide:
I couldn’t give a crap about most of the truly retired wrestlers.  That narrows it without trouble down to Kurt Angle and RVD, and frankly both would bring me great joy.  Have to pick one?  Angle, I guess, because WWE would take him a bit more seriously.  But Rob in the WWE would be a dream come true as well.

Vince: Kurt Angle! If he winds up leaving Totally Not Actual Wrestling, we could all mark out again. Think about it.

Angle vs. HHH, Angle vs. Hardy, Angle vs. Kane, Angle vs. Taker, Angle vs. all the newer talents; Kennedy, Kingston, Punk, Ziggler, even Khali.

The man, when used properly, almost has to put on a great, or at least entertaining, match.

I wanted to say I strongly agreed with most of your answers, espeically with Triple H and Undertaker being overrated wrestlers... and I, most exceptionally, agreed that Chris Benoit should be inducted into Hall of Fame, he caught my eyes back right there when I started watching Smackdown in late 2003, I saw him team up with Kurt Angle to take on team Brock Lesnanr, then John Cena to win spots in Royal Rumble, and from there the rest is history, I was completely crushed to hear about The Crippler losing his mind. Either way, I liked your article. Thanks.

LOL wouldn't you guys love o see Stone Cold returning full time? Personally I'd love it. That would bring back the good ratings. Too bad WWE is family-friendly. I also want The Rock to return but we all know he wouldn't. I mean why would he bust his ass and get less money. He's got a nice contract with Disney and he's doing great as an actor. I know he always said he cares about the people. But it was only his gimmick. It wasn't Dwayne who was talking. It was The Rock.
If you smellllllllllllllllllllll. What The Rock is filming

If The Undertaker's Wrestlemania Streak had to come to an end, should it be ended by a well-established wrestler (Michaels, Hunter, Edge, Orton etc) or by one of the smaller guys (Punk, Kendrick, Morrison, DiBiase etc) and why?

If WWE continues going in the direction that has brought it this far and will probably continue to allow it chug along entertaining millions and making craploads of cash, what would be a more fruitful way for me to watch the product?

Should I look at the preformers as the personic characters they've worked so hard for years to build and embody, the characters through and around which the storylines truly develope? Or should I continue smarking out and getting giddy every time Finlay or Umaga get title shots, despite the fact that I know they'll never uphold their perspective brands due to limitations presented by their gimmicks, promos skills, looks, and general "overness", as well as that their characters are essentially plot tools, and they know and work to this end? Should I continue disagreeing with almost everything yall say, or should I give up and try to back up my own points and try to not wince during Cena matches?

There's alot more I'd like to put into the question, as it's a very complex one that alot of folks probably need answered to understand their personal standpoints on pro-wrestling, and how it's right or wrong, or more importantly how there is no right or wrong, but I've taken up way too much space as is lol

To put it simply, should I be a Mark, or a Smark?
