Welcome everyone to the very first edition of the Canadian Corner! I am The Canadian Destroyer and I encourage you to read along with me as I run down the news floating around in the crazy, yet wonderful world of professional wrestling. I’m sure all of us have went to various sites around the internet to check up on our favorite wrestling promotions, whatever that promotion may be, and see what is going down with storylines and injuries, among many other things. Well I have noticed, we get the news, but what about what the reporter’s personal opinion on that particular piece of news he is reporting on? Well there, in a nutshell is what my article is all about. I will be stating news that I have heard on various sites, and stating my personal opinion on them, good or bad, preferably bad because I can really shoot something down if I put my mind to it! Also, before I start, I want to make something very clear, the “news” that I comment on may or may not be fact, and I have no way of backing up any of it, so please keep this in mind. With that piece of business out of the way, without further ado, let’s get down to business shall we? I hope you enjoy my debut article!
Let’s start off with some lighter news around the web, this one involving the Ring Of Honor promotion. Recently Bret “Hitman” Hart “participated” in a R.O.H. show, and from what the reports say he was very professional , and got a very good response from the fans. This should not be surprising as this man, in my opinion, is the best when it comes to honoring his fans. Yes, even if they are from the bottom half of North America. In fact, I believe Bret’s career was cut very short, and if a certain incident didn’t happen, I believe this man would still be bringing us to our feet to this day. It’s also worth noting, Bret will be appearing again for R.O.H. this weekend in Boston and New York, so if your there, go pay your respects to the man!
Hulkamania is back…. You have got to be kidding me!! Well apparently not, as the Hulkamania tour is set to kick-off in Australia. To appear in the tour is formerly retired Ric Flair, Brutus Beefcake, Umaga, Gangrel, Rikishi, The Nasty Boys, Jimmy Hart, and Lacey Von Erich. This is unbelievable, didn’t we see this in a movie one time, oh yeah we did, it was called The Wrestler. For Ric Flair to step back into the ring is a big slap in the face of WWE, and to all of his fans. This is a guy that is only looking for one more time in the sun, but I think it’s the fans that will get burned with this one. It was obvious that Ric had lost his step 10 years ago, and here he is, along with Hulk Hogan (we know he lost it 15 years ago, and arguably never had it) about to put on a wrestling show. Never mind that, the cheapest seats are $95.00, talk about being brought to the cleaners, wow. Well, at least they will have 2 samoan wrestlers… Umaga and Rakishi, come on, get real, what are they going to do, dance? Atleast the fans in Australia will get to see a lot of the butt-to-face in the corner move! One guy that I would actually like to see out of the group is Jimmy Hart. That guy is a classic, but other than that, I wouldn’t waste my money on this “wrestling tour” and I hope they have doctors on hand that are capable of handling heart-attacks.
Here is a “rumor” that is said to be false. It was reported that WWE was going to pay 10 Million to Kanye West to wrestle. Now, if anyone believed this absurd report you should really give your head a shake. To the reporter that reported this garbage, you should quit your job and go work for the magazines, you would do a good job there.
It is being said that TNA President Dixie Carter is not too happy with the monthly pay-per-views the company is producing. It is being said she wants to reduce the ppvs to 6-8 shows a year, and having a couple 3 hour specials on Spike TV. This is not confirmed apparently, which really what rumors are? I personally think it’s not a bad idea. If the buyrates are so low, which I believe they are, why not only do 6-8 shows on pay-per-view? It gives them more time to build up a big main event, as well as get deeper storylines going. Plus, it would cost me less money on the cable bill! Maybe WWE could take an approach like this, but we all know that will never happen, so case closed. I’ve been very impressed with Dixie as of late, I don’t know what it is, but there is definitely something about her that makes her seem like a very capable opponent for Vince in the future (at least 10 years) if she stays with it.
Can this be, can it really be? Bret Hart has said he is open to the idea of coming back to WWE in as a weekly character? A report has surfaced that this is a real possibility. In fact, the same report says that back when HBK teamed with “god”, Bret was supposed to be that partner. The Breaking Point pay-per-view airing in Montreal is was also said to be a part of business talks between The Hitman and WWE. I don’t know about this one guys, although it would be nice to see Bret back in the middle of the ring, he has stated before that he would have no interest in just being a character, as he is unable to wrestle anymore. I personally love the guy, but his microphone skills were not the best in the business. Having him come back as just a character may not be the best idea, although he is better than any of the “characters” on T.V. at this time. All in all, I am having a hard time taking a stance on this subject, is it true? Is it False? Is it something I want to see? I’m not sure, but I can say one thing, it is going to be interesting to see what becomes of this and where each party involved goes from here.
Well finally, Chavo Guerrero has something to say about this ludicrous storyline involving himself and Hornswoggle. It, however, was not the response I was hoping to get, nor what most of you were expecting. He goes on to say that this storyline is not about wrestling anymore, it is strictly entertainment. He goes on to say he can outwrestle anyone in the WWE, which to me is a little over the top, and that he can beat up a midget any day of the week. He also refers to some of the people writing to him, as and I quote “Retards.” Well Chavo, here is what I have to say to you; you are the “retard” who is allowing this absurd and extremely un-entertaining storyline to continue. If you think for one second this stuff with you and Hornswoggle is entertaining, than you sir, are a disgrace to your family name and are disrespecting all the fans of this great wrestling world. Not only is it not entertaining, it is like getting kicked in the behind with a steel toed boot. I don’t blame WWE for this, I blame you, for not opening your mouth about this crap, and furthermore, the way they let go of your aunty Vicki, is nothing compared to the embarrassment this whole thing is causing to you. Wake up Chavo!!
There is word that Marty Wright, aka The Boogeyman, is nowhere to be found! His agent has booked Boogeyman in a number of independent wrestling shows, however, Boogeyman has not been responding to phone calls, text messages, or emails. The agent also states that he is praying that Marty is O.K. I am not sure what to think of this news. Surely after this statement has been released someone would have gone to check on the condition of Marty. Hopefully he is alright and makes his bookings so he can perform for all his fans. If he does no-show, it will not be easy to find him work, so again, for his sake, I hope he contacts his agent as soon as possible.
For my final piece of news this week, Hulk Hogan was on a wrestling radio show and had a number of things to say about a number of people in the business. He mentioned Vince Russo, he feels like most of us do so I won’t go too much into that. He stated that Batista was a nice guy and had a heart of gold, but needed to avoid the injuries he continues to receive. He also mentions Randy Orton, and how he is one of the few who actually got “it.” Not sure what it is, but whatever it is, he got it! Finally Hogan talked about Chris Jericho. Now I know most people don’t like Jericho, however I think, and have said on many occasions, that he is the best in the business today. Hogan agrees with this statement, as he goes on to say that Jericho is amazing and a complete wrestler. Hogan also said that Jericho was as great outside the ring as he is inside. This should surprise no one, as he is indeed, like I said previously, the best in the business today. I would go on and on about this absurd storyline he is involved with right now but what is the point? All I got to say is RAW IS JERICHO!
Well folks, that’s it for this week, and for my first article. I hope you folks enjoyed it, and I encourage you to leave comments for me so I can improve, and talk about things that you all care about. I would like to thank The Wrestling Game reporters as well as the reporters from another site which I will list below for all the news, and rumors they have provided. Again, like I did in my opening paragraph, I would like to state that I do not, and cannot confirm any of these reports I have talked about in this article or any of the following ones I write. Thanks for reading and always remember, keep those sticks on the ice!
