Canadian Corner Vol. 3

Back to home
Hey folks, it’s me again, The Canadian Destroyer with your weekly opinion article about the news and rumors in the wrestling world. This week we have a couple news things to discuss, such as Big Ben hosting Monday Night Raw, The MEM causing trouble overseas, Ric Flair selling the NWA Title on EBay, and his , Ric’s, Ex-wife being upset on him doing the Hulkamania Tour, Sting's retirement, some TNA signings, and much more! So buckle up, here we go!

So if anyone doesn’t know, Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburg Steelers is going to host Monday Night Raw. Well it seems that the head coach of the Steelers, Mike Tomlin, is not too happy about the situation. I’m not going to go into a big description on why he isn’t too happy, because I really don’t care. Ben is a grown man, it’s his day off, so let him be. If Ben was taking off to host the show when his team was in practice, then sure I would understand the coach’s anger, I don’t think Ben would do that in the first place but I’m just saying, however this is not the case, so Mr. Tomlin, you worry about getting your team a win, and let your players do whatever they want to do on their days off!

Well, TNA’s own Main Event Mafia caused a real stir in Switzerland this past week. The reports say that Booker T, Scott Steiner, Sharmell, and Kurt Angle were in the six sided ring cutting a promo on how much they hate Switzerland and ended up ripping, and tearing, a Swiss flag. The crowd, to say the very least, was not too impressed with this and started to riot a little. The chairs and other goodies were thrown into the ring by the hostile crowd, and the Main Event Mafia ran back to the backstage area. Booker T, who is apparently not a big fan of performing in front of crazy fans, was replaced by Sheik Abdul Bashir. This is a terrible situation for TNA to have, as they are fairly big overseas at the moment. The actions of the Main Event Mafia, are, and would be, frowned upon in any country. I know if these guys ripped up a Canadian flag in Canada, the scene would be the same. That can go for any country, in my opinion.  I would suggest to TNA and the Main Event Mafia not to proceed with such promos in the future. Now, as far as Booker T not performing later in the night, can you really blame him? I sure wouldn’t want to go in front of people who just threw chairs at me!!

It’s a sad day in NWA wrestling history. Ric “Crazy Man” Flair, is putting the prestigious NWA Championship belt on EBay. The old man is apparently in debt to a company and needs some money, so what better way than sell the NWA Championship. A Championship that has 75 years of Wrestling history, for Ric to even consider this pretty much confirms the rumors, well to be honest there isn’t any rumors I’m just saying, that the nature boy is getting senile and doesn’t have all the eggs in the basket, if you know what I am saying.

A follow up on Ric Flair’s participation in the Hulkamania tour, the Ex-Wife is not too happy about it. Here is the direct quote from her; “I’m very disappointed, The Wrestlemania and the Hall of Fame was so unbelievable and it was such a proud moment. No matter what I’ve been through with him, I was really, really proud to be part of that. It’s really unfortunate that he’s coming back under these circumstances, because that should have been the last day he wrestled. It was phenomenal and he should have been proud of that and it should have stayed that way.”  I agree with this lady one hundred percent! Like I said in my debut article, this is a slap in the face of WWE and all of us fans. Flair should be embarrassed, and will be embarrassed by his performance over in Australia. Hopefully, the old, wrinkly, has been doesn’t hurt himself, or maybe break a hip, that would be terrible!

There was a lot of speculation that “The Icon” Sting would have his last match at Bound For Glory in Los Angeles. However, it now appears that this is not the case, and Sting will not leave TNA after Bound For Glory. The multi-time heavyweight champion signed a new 6 month contract with the company. Signing for such a short period of time can mean only one thing, the time is near for this legend too say good-bye. Sting, in my opinion, is one of the all-time greats in this business, and whatever he would like to do is fine by me. The next question I have, when Sting does retire, will Vince McMahon place this legend in the Hall Of Fame? Does he deserve to be there, you bet he does, will he be there, well that’s another discussion for another article writer!

According to the news board here on The Wrestling Game, and other news boards but I like to get my news from here, TNA has signed two of their biggest stars to new contracts. A.J. Styles and Matt Morgan are going to be calling TNA home until the end 2014. This is encouraging news, as it means TNA realizes these two men are the future of their company, unlike another company who, in recent months, were releasing a number of promising talents. Now if only TNA could do something about the old guys on their roster ho are holding some of their best talent from reaching the top, but what can you do? If they think guys like Nash and Foley bring in ratings, which they absolutely do NOT, who are we to tell them how to run their company…

Why, oh why did CM Punk lose his World Heavyweight Title? Well the word on the street is Mr. Punk was involved in an “Incident” overseas, and this was the reason WWE found the need to take the title away from him.  Also, this is why the World Title match was first on the card at Hell In A Cell. Is this true, who knows, and to be honest, who cares. CM Punk was an O.K. champion, but in my opinion was over shadowed by Hardy’s idiocy.  How long does The Undertaker hold on the The Championship, who knows, but I’m sure it’s not going anywhere any time soon.

Speaking of Jeff, WWEshop is reporting that Hardy merchandise sales are still number 1, even after his recent troubles. Is this “shocking” like everyone says? In my opinion, no, like a man we all used to love to hate,  Eric Bishoff said, controversy  creates cash. Not to mention, has anyone noticed how messed up society has become? So it’s not really that hard to imagine this criminal creating cash, maybe he can use all the cash he is getting to hire a body guard in jail, we all hear stories of what goes on there.

“I’ll Be Back!” If no one knows what I am referring to, there is word that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is in talks with WWE regarding the Guest Host position on RAW. Is there anyway he could be worse than previous hosts? I doubt it, but hey the Terminator has a weird way of doing things, so you never know what disaster he can create.

Well peeps, I am going to end the article this week by breaking down the Hell In A Cell pay-per-view. In my opinion, it was a little disappointing. For all the hype they did for the cage matches, they sure did a poor job executing. I am not going to lie, I skipped most of the matches, and watched only the Hell In A Cell’s and Jericho/Show vs. Batista/Rey. The one thing I have to say is, they did a very poor job, besides the Tag cell match, which started outside the ring, and implemented the divide and conquer method (Again), at making these cell matches seem different.  I must say, and this will be the only time I say this, the PG rating really ruined this pay-per-view for me, and I am sure for others as well. Who would have thought, “The Devil’s Playground”  would not produce a speck of blood.  I know we got very spoiled during a time called “The Attitude Era”  and we will never get back to it, not anytime soon anyway, thus why I don’t expect anything spectacular from the WWE Superstars, but it would be nice to get one guy willing to put his body on the line like they used to.

Well guys and gals, that’s it from me this week. I would like to thank all my supports that read my article and leave comments. These are very helpful when composing my up coming articles, as I am doing this for your entertainment. I hope you enjoyed this one, keep your sticks on the ice!

Pretty good, the only thing I disagree with is you sayin that Foley don't make rateings. He's the only reason I watch TNA. I stopped watching wrestling in 2000 when he retired and just now started watching it again since he came back last year. I'll prolly stop watching again when he retires again. So thats 1 extra viewer they gained by haveing Mick Foley.

There is plenty of blood in TNA just look at when Mick Foley smashed Abyss over the head with the video tape! :D and by the way Sting is the all-time greatest wrestler and entertainer!

Now, i think it was a good article before you said Hell in a Cell was a disappointment. Ok, them changing the name to it was but the PPV itself was not. I very much enjoyed it especially the Tag Team Cell match. But come, give WWE some credit. They had the guts to say 'no blood', they had the guts to change the PPV names and they had the guts to put THREE cell matches on the card. No with the gutsy moves it could have lost fans. Which it has, but they needed try something different. And they did. Now, not to take it away from your article because it was good but at least next time give credit to WWE for some things that they are doing.

OK i will get alot of comments about my comments and i expect that because not alot of you feel that way but its just my opinion.

Seeya all

Everyone rants and raves about Sting vs The Undertaker, to be honest i'd rather See The Icon Sting vs The Show Stopper Shawn Michaels.

The WWE hasn't made a 'Gutsy' move since they bought out WCW. The only reason they changed the names of the PPVs is so they could own the name as a trademark--and make more money as a result. The only reason they're shifting to a more family-friendly product is to draw in younger viewers--and make more money.
