Chaos Non-Awards: Royal Rumble Report for 1/31/10

Greetings one and Everyone! Welcome to the 2010 Royal Rumble!

To be honest, I’m really looking forward to this PPV. The event that is going to change the course of 2010 is here and I hope that it’s all for the best.

Onto business! Let’s start the Pay-Per-View!

ECW Championship
Ezekiel
Jackson vs. Christian ©
Ezekiel with a lot of power. Regal interferes and gets sent to the back.
I blanked out soon after. It got really boring and slow at this point. Christian continually gets countered from the Killswitch which he tried to hit about once a minute.
Jackson with a little more offence and power before a mistake cost him dearly.
Christian ends the match with his 70th attempt at the Killswitch.
Winner and STILL ECW Champion: Christian
Match rating: C-
Please… Kill… ECW

Cryme Tyme tries to trick Khali for his spot in the rumble. They say that if he gives Cryme Tyme his Rumble number, he can kiss Tiffany. Ranjin comes in and tells Khali what they want. Khali says (through Ranjin) No dice, home slice. T-Lo then makes fun of Cryme Tyme with the “Pants on the Ground” song.
The Miz comes in to boast. T-Lo then says that this isn’t Raw, and he’s in charge. Miz gets told that he’s defending his title against MVP and the match is next.

Cody walks in to talk to Randy. He talks about Ted and how much he’s changed over the past few weeks. Cody says that he’s heard Ted talk about winning the rumble and beating Randy at Wrestlemania for the WWE Championship. Randy thanks Cody for the information.

United States Championship
MVP vs. The Miz ©

MVP gains the upper hand early on. After MVP’s attack dies down, Miz responds with his own attack and continues with the submission holds that slow the pace down. MVP then counters and hits Ballin’ and goes for the Playmaker which Miz counters and gets a big boot for his troubles. Plenty of back of forth over the next few minutes, with The Miz gets the win after rolling up MVP with an inside cradle after MVP tried to get back in the ring after being thrown out.
Winner and STILL
United States Champion: The Miz
After the match The Miz taunts MVP. MVP hits a playmaker on The Miz and leaves.
Match Rating: C
No finishers during the match did make it pretty poor, but overall it wasn’t bad.

Big Show runs into
Jericho. Show says that Jericho is jealous. Jericho says that Miz is self-centered and cocky like the fans.
Jericho says that Big Show is going to show his true loyalty by throwing out The Miz in the rumble. Show says that if it comes down to the three of them, he’s throwing them both out.
R-Truth comes into frame and says if Show doesn’t throw
Jericho out, he will.

Randy runs into Ted. They talk about Cody and how much he’s changed over the past few weeks. Ted says that he’s heard Cody talking about winning the rumble and defeating Sheamus at Wrestlemania and says that Cody is questioning Randy’s chances tonight. Randy says that he’s going to regain the title.

WWE Championship
Sheamus © vs. Randy Orton

10 minutes worth of entrances later, the match starts. Huge pop for Orton. Small amount of back and forth before they go to the outside. When they return to the ring, Sheamus targets Orton’s arm, Orton targets Sheamus’ left knee. Wow, I never noticed how much Sheamus looks like a rat. Update: Rat vs. Elf.
After a long Armbar, Sheamus hits a beautiful backbreaker but Randy kicks out. Sheamus rolls out of the ring after an offensive flurry by Orton. When Sheamus comes back in, Randy hits his DDT off the ropes for a two count. Orton goes for the Punt but Sheamus rolls out of the ring again. Cody jumps the barrier from the crowd and attacks Sheamus in front of the ref. Orton hits the RKO and tries a pin but Ref calls for the bell.
Winner by Disqualification and STILL WWE Champion: Sheamus.
Cody gets in and apologizes but Randy gets pissed. Ted hits the ring and tries to hold back Randy but gets beat down as well.
Sheamus gets back up and hits a perfect running Pump Kick and leaves.
Match Rating: B+
Entertaining Title match. Prepare for the end of Legacy.

Womens Championship
Mickie James vs. Michelle McCool ©

Michelle comes out and after her entrance she… oh crap she has a microphone.
“Where, oh where, is my piggy gone?”
Layla comes out in the stupid Piggy suit. I feel like I’m going to annihilate my TV with a ceiling fan, which is still attached to the ceiling. But that would take heavy lifting and I’m already holding a bottle of Vanilla Coke and I’m not letting it go, so I digress.
Mickie comes out and throws Layla into the security barrier and goes for Michelle. Layla tries to get in the ring but gets a boot from Michelle as Mickie steps out of the way. Match lasts less than 30 seconds. MickDT for the win.
Winner and NEW WWE Womens Champion: Mickie James
After the match all the face divas come down with a cake which they give to Mickie, who plants it straight into Michelle and Layla.
Match Rating: B
One of the best Divas matches I could ask for.

World Heavyweight Championship
Undertaker © vs. Rey Mysterio

Rey opens up with a barrage of punches in the corner. Undertaker grabs Rey by the throat and throws him over the top rope. Rey tries to get on the offensive but gets punched in mid air. Signature Leg Drop on the apron but Rey was on the bottom rope. Great back and forth after this point.
Taker goes for Chokeslam but Rey counters into head scissors and goes for the 619 but Taker counters and goes for the tombstone. Rey hits Taker in the face with his knees to get out of the
Tombstone. Taker opens up a huge amount of offence and doesn’t let up.
Rey hits a Double 619 on Taker and goes for the West Coast Pop but Taker catches Rey and hits a Stalling Last Ride for the 3 count.
Winner and STILL World Heavyweight Champion: Undertaker
Match Rating: B
It was a little shorter than I expected, but I’m alright with it.

Shawn is watching a TV. Kane walks in and tells Shawn that his obsession with Taker is unhealthy and tells him to watch his back.
Triple H walks in after Kane leaves. Shawn apologizes for what happened on Monday Night Raw and says that if anyone is going to win the rumble, he’s glad that it’s him.
But he also says that Undertaker and him we’re meant to be.
What is with all the underlying adult connotations?

Royal Rumble Match
Ziggler and Bourne start by looking at each other and look at the Wrestlemania sign. Somehow I know its going to end like that.
Punk comes in 3rd and throws out Bourne and Ziggler. Okay, now I know where they are going with this. Punk says that this is his rumble and he will save everyone in the rumble one person at a time.
JTG comes out 4th and lasts about 20 seconds. Punk is on fire on the microphone. He says that people can be saved and that he will save them.
5th is The Great Khali. Punk asks Khali if he wants to be saved. Khali chops Punk.
WHAT?! BETH PHEONIX IS 6TH THE RUMBLE! *rubs eyes* Wow, she’s really pumped up. Khali tries to eliminate Beth by carrying her to the apron and telling her to go to the back. Beth kisses Khali and pulls him over the top to eliminate him.
Punk gives Beth a GTS and eliminates her as Zack Ryder comes out 7th and doesn’t last long. Punk has eliminated almost everyone so far. He’s on fire.
Triple H is 8th and unloads the offence on Punk. Drew McIntyre comes out very slowly in 9th. Triple H goes for a pedigree, gets countered into a GTS which gets countered again and Punk gets thrown out. Ted DiBiase is out 10th and starts to attack Triple H with McIntyre. Morrison is 11th and begins to attack McIntyre and hits a beautiful DDT.
Kane comes out 12th. Double Chokeslam on McIntyre and Morrison, dominates the ring for a while.
Rhodes is out 13th. Morrison tries a springboard move after almost getting eliminated but Rhodes dropkicks Morrison in mid air.
MVP is out 14th. Wait, no he isn’t. The Miz comes out and nails MVP with the US Title in the back of the head.
Number 15 is Carlito. He starts opening up offensive on everyone and hits a Backstabber on Triple H, DiBiase and McIntyre. The Miz is 16th. Immediately hits a Skull Crushing Finale on Carlito. MVP runs out and enters and immediately eliminates himself by doing a Cactus Clothesline to The Miz.
Matt Hardy is out 17th. Twist of Fate on McIntyre and a Side Effect on
Rhodes. Goes to the top rope but gets eliminated by Kane. Kane gets eliminated by Triple H.
HBK comes out 18th. Shawn immediately eliminates Carlito, DiBiase and Rhodes. He also eliminates Morrison and with the assistance of Triple H, eliminates McIntyre.
Only Triple H and Shawn Michaels left in the ring. Cena is out 19th.
Cena hits a mountain of offence on both members of DX. Hits a ten knuckle shuffle on HHH and HBK. Cena goes for a Attitude Adjustment on Michaels but gets a pedigree for his troubles. Triple H is then Superkicked and eliminated by Shawn.
Shelton Benjamin is out 20th gets a few shots in on both remaining competitors before getting eliminated by Cena
Yoshi Tatsu is 21st and screws up getting eliminated by Cena.
Big Show is 22nd. Everybody duck and cover! Big Show is running to the ring! *feels a magnitude 6.1 quake around the Philips Arena. Big Show dominates the ring for the next 90 seconds.
Mark Henry is 23rd (Geez who couldn’t predict that?). Showdown between both giants.
Chris Masters comes out 24th and hits a beautiful body press to slam on Michaels. Tries to get a Masterlock on Show but gets eliminated.
R-Truth is 25th and immediately eliminates Henry and Show and starts hitting Shawn.
Swagger is 26th. He tries to get an attack on everyone in the ring.
Kofi Kingston is 27th. He eliminates R-Truth with a reverse head scissors and Swagger.
Chris Jericho is 28th.
Jericho gets hit with an Attitude Adjustment. HBK goes for Sweet Chin Music on Jericho but gets hit with Trouble in Paradise. Kofi then gets eliminated by Cena.
”You think you know me”
EDGE IS BACK!!! Spear to everyone. Eliminates
Jericho.
Batista is out last. Final Four. Cena, Edge, Batista and HBK.
Batista hits a Spinebuster on everyone. Spear to Batista from Edge. HBK bodyslams Cena and Batista and hits a top rope elbow drop on Cena and then Enziguri’s Batista. Sweet Chin Music to Cena, then Batista. After HBK and Edge try to eliminate each other and end up on the apron, Shawn Superkicks Edge back in the ring and then gets eliminated by Batista. Shawn is livid.
Final Three. Batista, Cena and Edge.
Batista gets eliminated after Cena pulls down the ropes when Batista was trying to eliminate him.
Edge goes for a spear and Cena sidesteps and kicks Edge in the stomach. Cena goes for Edge but Edge sidesteps and grabs Cena’s head and throws him out.
WINNER OF THE 2010 ROYAL RUMBLE: EDGE!!
Match Rating: A-
Brilliant match. Surprises everywhere. Fantastic.

Overall Rumble Rating: B
Okay. That was an unexpected finish. Thank heavens we don’t have a repeat winner.
I thoroughly enjoyed the PPV. At this point, I can not wait for Elimination Chamber!

first match was pretty good for me. Rumble was great at the start and end, the mid crazy elimination part was so so.

Why would give the whole rumble a B? That does the letter B a HUGE disservice. C- all the way.

How was the actual rumble match good? Not much wrestling involved at all, focussed on the top guys doing the eliminations and the fans weren't that in to it it seems if you watch the ppv. The Rumble match gets a C- from me. The rest I could agree with, although I quite enjoyed Miz vs MVP.. And the divas match was the WORST ever match, that rating disgusts me. The Taker vs Rey match SUCKED. Undertaker did nothing but laze around, Rey was trying to make the match good, all the Undertaker did was use the ropes for leverage at the start of the match and just catch Rey with some strikes all the time showing his lazyness...
Edge does not deserve to be winner, how could he come back from injury and main event wrestlemania without doing ANY work for it what-so ever? BAD Royal Rumble Overall rating: D .. from me. I agree.. last years' was better. Both this and the 08 one sucks.

The Rumble Began well with Punk's saved speach and was doing fine while it filled with people until HBK and Cena came out.
After HBK and HHH cleared the ring we would practically never see more then 4 people in the ring at once, which IMO isn't really much of a royal rumble with so few people in the ring.
They also could have pushed some of their younger talent by having them last longer, but instead they basically eliminated everyone who wasn't a main-eventer in seconds of their arrival.
Without Edge's return this rumble would have been one of the worst in recent memory, even so the match could have been so much better.

i agree with 'bad man'. Undertaker seems so sluggish and unfit nowadays.

Well, it had speculated that either jericho or edge will win the rumble right? So no surprises there. However i secretly wished that they could've push some potent mid carders to the top.

Im gonna Youtube the randy vs sheamus match. Too exciting not to miss.

    1) Edge was not a surprise return. When he went out with the injury, it stated he would be back around the time of the Rumble, and just like Cena and HHH before him, if he came back at the Rumble, he was going to win it.

    2) What does this mean for Wrestlemania with Edge getting a guaranteed title shot? Jericho wins the title at Elimination Chamber... more than likely with Edge's help.

"Oh, look! What's this?!? The Ultimate Opportunist has made his way into the Chamber! He is going to spear Jericho! NO! Jericho ducks and Edge catches Taker (or whoever is left)! Rollup! 1,2,3! We have a new champion! Chris Jericho! I can't believe this happened! So unexpected!"

    Write it down.

    @Comment 15:

I could see Taker getting screwed, but I'm thinking it could be HBK rather then Edge doing it, and as a result costing Taker the chamber match so he can fight him at WM.

Edge winning did NOT make this rumble match good, if anything it only made it worse, he doesn't deserve it just like Cena didn't in 08, you can't come back from injury and be pushed right up to the top. What did he do to make him deserve it? Nothing, he had plenty title runs already.

i called edge winning it without even knowing he was back. i mjustglad cena is not getting a title run for a while, he cant win at EC if his life depended on it. but the best match was Miz vs MVP. i enjoy watching the Miz wrestle and he's amazing athlete and on the mic, much better than cena ever can be. but Punk in the royal just ruling it for the first few minutes was great, big fan of Punk from indies to now. also Edge eliminating cena was good, im glad Edge won.

not great but the rumble match is always good for a few surprises like beth phoenix coming out!!

Good article, could've used a lil bit more humor but whatever. If you ask me last years royal rumble was better, the rumble was longer and people actually spent time in the ring, then there was the Matt hardy Jeff thing, then HBK kicking Cena and JBL. Awwww the good times
