Episode Six - What's up, WE?

Episode Six - What's up, WE? Yes, WE, you are getting boring!

No, it’s not a typo. From now on I choose to call the company I am writing about WE, for World Entertainment. But let’s get on with it.

What this article is gonna be about? Well, the title pretty much takes it away already. But I guees I need to explain myself a bit further. After I finished watching Raw last week I noticed a couple of things. I would like to write about what I felt during the show. And since, as The Nemesis reminded me, I didn’t publish anything the last couple of…well, months, I will do just that right now. Please excuse me, but the article will cover multiple topics, so there won’t be the usual amount of details and points.

I want to start off by mentioning something I have been feeling for a long, long time now and tonight I caught myself again. While watching Raw from Boston, I was sitting in front of my computer and doing ll sorts of stuff. As usual I skipped everything with the Divas and during the commercials I did all sorts of stuff. But even when I was watching… I suddenly remembered what happened a few years back. Shawn Michaels just had to fight JBL and after he quit being “Shawn Michaels, Employee of the month” he took part in a match to determine the opponent of The Deadman at WrestleMania 25. Of course, not a single match on tonights card had so much at stake, not even close. But I caught myself watching Raw without ANY emotion. When I watched the HBK vs JBL match, I was sitting on the edge of my seat, I just had that big relief, storywise, that HBK freed himself and then we were so close to seeing JBL facing off against off The Undertaker. No offense toward JBL, but back in the day, I was rooting for the good guys.

So it happened again and actually I would like to know, if anyone else feels that way. I am sad about it, to be honest. I used to enjoy WE much more than I am right now.

But unfortunately, that’s not it yet. I would like to talk about CM Punk. A couple of months back, he was hot, he had the attention and he had big moments. For many weeks he got back to having a usual feud. And that’s why I am disappointing. He is not better and not worse than he used to, but what they started with his shoot promo could, maybe SHOULD have led to something bigger. But where is he now? I even had to think about it for a second. He is having a feud for the title, but it doesn’t feel satisfying. Maybe I am expecting too much, but that’s it? Some people, I admit, members of the IWC, even said he is the only one to possibly challenge The Undertaker next year at WrestleMania. Why? He was the one no one can control, he was saying whatever he wanted and he emphasized that not even the fans cheering him would change anything. The other day I saw a video of him singing “West Virginia” with John Cena, as if he was the biggest face ever. HE WASN’T!!! Damnit, I can imagine what happened. He actually DID threaten to leave, Vince gave him a paycheck and a push, a lasting one at least, and Punk fell for it. Now, if he was telling the truth and really decided to stay on Money in the Bank Sunday, he is quite intelligent, but falling for that means he is either stupid or, *sigh* he is just after the money… I believe they could have done so much more with him in that situation, but they decided not to.

I continue with another missed opportunity. Santino Marella was absent for quite some time and I had forgotten about him. But to come back after such a long time it usually means a gimmick change, especially for someone, whose character wasn’t too big. Zack Ryder did it before, to mention one of the more recent gimmick changes. But he came back and except for the missing “unibrow”, he is doing the exact same thing as before. Yes, he said something about holding a title next time he shows up in Boston, but he just got squashed right after that. I don’t know what they could have done with him, but I honestly think about why they signed him, and what for, and why they fired guys that could have done so much more for them. I don’t need to give examples, I guess. His comeback is a missed chance in my opinion.

Oh, I just noticed there is so much more to talk about and I am not even close to the main topic. But anyways, let’s not waste words.

They also could have done much more with that McMahon-Triple H-Laurinatis angle. They might have even pulled something off like the legendary Survivor Series in 2001. I am not saying they should have done the same thing, although they could have. But there have been so many chances for this one. And they make it a…TAG MATCH. They pretty much ruined the Tag Team Competition, but I really don’t feel Survivor Series should be headlined by a Tag Match. And to be honest, I don’t care who wins. It’s just about The Rock and John Cena and what happens between these two. This is not only disappointing. It is also not what it should be like. They pretty much eliminated the key aspect of the business, but I really DON’T CARE. I don’t care if Morrison wins, I don’t care who is Tag Team Champion, I don’t care about the World Heavyweight Title. I will read results on Monday, but really I think it’s just because it has been a habit for the last couple of years.

This last point I want to talk about, is the one that bothers me most. As I just mentioned, I will read what happened as a matter of a habit. I won’t do it because I am interested. I keep on DVRing Raw, because nothing keeps me watching it. And most importantly, I sometimes even skip the matches. I just don’t care. When I came to the US, for the first time in my life I had the chance to watch Raw live and not as a replay in bad quality somewhere in the Internet. But within four months (!) my interest in the product has reached an all-time low. I guess what I’m saying is without any connection, but I want to point out how I feel about the WE.

Not only did they ban the second “W”. They actually managed to erase my interest in the outcome of the matches. I did NOT watch Survivor Series this Sunday, because I didn’t and I still don’t care about the outcome of the matches. I am still happy they give Mark Henry the shot he deserves. Last time I saw him performing, doing the athletic stuff or talking on the mic, it was nice to watch him, I enjoyed it. But I don’t care who wins the Elimination Tag Team Match. Neither did I know who was in which team and I had a hard time telling you now, even though I read the report. The Diva’s lost my interest a long time…well, I never cared about them. And the only thing I wanted to know was what happens between Cena and The Rock. And nothing exciting happened. Really. What upset me the most about The Rock was that he didn’t even shave his beard. Maybe he was told not to, but come on! With that beard he looks like the “Hollywood-Rock”, but when I see him in the Ring I want to see “The pie-eating, trailblazing, eyebrow, etc., etc”-Rock. I didn’t. Vince is so desperate to create another Hogan-Rock like match, he is to desperate to see, that won’t work. When Cena and Rocky had their stare-down the night after WrestleMania, Cena couldn’t even keep his pokerface. When Rocky ordered Cena to come back into the ring at SS, it was so clear to me that the WE lost everything that made it exciting for me.

*sigh*

For a long time I read many articles in the IWC and I disagreed, because I still enjoyed the product, but I don’t do that anymore. I know that PG changed much, but I was still able to enjoy the product. I don’t need blood or sex in the ring. But at least I want to be entertained. And quite honest, I cant remember when they REALLY entertained me. I am sad, because the WE has been a part of my life for quite some time. And I am disappointed.

My name is Nick Hardy and I am desperate for change! Good night.
