Genesis Results for 01/17/10

Welcome to a special edition where I will be breaking down a huge night in TNA that is the Genesis PPV. This would be TNA's first night in a more traditional four-sided ring.

Amazing Red (c) vs ???- X-Division Title

Amazing Red comes out to the ring and now everyone is wondering... who is the mystery man. Petey Williams? Rob Van Dam? Jeff Hardy? Nope. Its no other than The Brian Kendrick. The match is off to a quick start with a fast pace highflying battle. Amazing Red pulls off some solid moves and Brian Kendrick is right there the whole time with some nice counters.

The turning happens when Amazing Red does a flipping moonsault off the post that lands directly on Brian Kendrick outside the ring putting him into the barrier. After that Amazing Reds highflying abilities are to much and he hits no other than the rope assisted Canadian Destroyer to win the match. The finisher looked nice and the referee even had to help Amazing Red up for the victory after piledriving Kendricks head into the ground to retain.

Winner: Amazing Red

Sean Morley vs Daniels

Sean Morley comes out with his steamy entrance and his towel wrapped around his waist. Chris Daniels entrance is extended when he decides to do some trash talking before stepping into the ring. Sean Morley is off to a powerful performance using both his knees and elbows to land some brutal strikes. But when Daniels finally gets an opportunity to counter, he takes it but before you know it Morley is back in control. Out of nowhere Daniels locks in triangle choke but Morley was able to reach the ropes. Morley is hit with a nice backflip off the ropes and surprisingly kicks out at two.

After that, the match consisted of Daniels dominating for a while but he just couldnt seem to get the pin. Just when you think Morley is done... he is about to get thrown backwards off the top turnbuckle and is able to power throw Daniels down to the ring. Morley then hit a heavy frog splash on Daniels and picked up the victory.

Winner: Sean Morley

ODB (c) vs Tara- Knockout Title

ODB goes for multiple submissions but is unsuccessful. ODB scores her first pinfall but directly following is Tara hitting here finisher to become the new Knockout Champion!

Winner: Tara

British Invasion (c) vs Hernandez & Matt Morgan

The glorious tag titles are on the line and before the match im going to have to go with Morgans power and Hernandez's abilities being to much for the British Invasion. The Invasion look strong early on but Hernandez quickly utilizes there attack by overpowering them to the point that hes throwing them around the ring like there nothing. But the Invasion take control but only because there both double teaming Hernandez and hes no match as he is thrown down and double arm suplexed off the top turnbuckle.

British Invasion continues to cheat until the referee decides to kick a member of the Invasion which leads to huge drop by Hernandez that leaves both him and his opponent down. But finally he gets the tag to Matt Morgan and he starts off by hitting a black hole slam on the British and even tosses him hard into the corner of the ring. At this point Matt Morgan and Hernandez are fired up and get a few close two counts off a solid diving shoulder block from the ropes by Hernandez and a brutal chokeslam by Morgan. The team continues to slam British Invasion against the ring until they got nothing left and cant kick out anymore. The Blueprint and Hernandez are new Tag Team Champions.

Winner: Matt Morgan & Hernandez

D'angelo Dinero vs Desmond Wolfe

The matches first key blow is when Wolfe throws Dinero off the top turnbuckle and he falls all the way to the ground outside the ring. Later on Dinero sets up for what almost looked like a 619 but ended up jumping himself right out of the ring showing his athleticism. Wolfe locks in a solid submission but Dinero reaches the rope just in time.

Following is a series of many submission attempts by Wolfe but Dinero fights all them off and you can tell hes getting weaker and weaker each time. Wolfe becomes frustrated and decides to just try to beat the victory out of him until he can no longer walk straight and he does just that but Dinero seems to have just a little fight left even after hes dropped flat on his back by a hard right hook. He eventually is able to comeback enough to the point that both men are out of gas but Wolfe is able to save the match by getting his leg on the rope on a potential match winning pin.

Wolfe then pulled Dineros neck back against the ring post which seems decent but looked very fierce being seen out of a guys eyes who had a very painful stiff neck the day he wrote this (yeah me). Dinero almost captures the win with a small package pin and a roll up but Wolfe finds a way to kick out and continue the battle. Wolfe goes for corner move again but ends up having his neck slammed into the mat leading to a what you would think victory but he kicks out again. Wolfe is then put down hard on his back but finds a way to kick out once again. Dinero is fed up with the failed pin attempts so he charges Wolfe but ends up getting brutally clotheslined and it ended up ending the match.

Winner: Desmond Wolfe

Beer Money Inc. vs Kevin Nash & Waltman

The match begins with Storm and Waltman battling hard. Kevin Nash gets in shortly after and uses his size as an advantage to overpower Storm. Waltman and Nash continue to beat down James Storm and he looks desperate for a tag. Nash bounces Storm off the ropes and side drops hard and it might have ended early if Roode didnt break up the pin. Waltman crushes his groin against the ring post giving Storm an opportunity to get the tag but Nash is quick to beat him to the tag and make sure that Roode is not in reach of Storm.

Roode finally fights off Waltman and get the fresh man in who comes out to a fast start. Scott Hall comes ringside and destroys a fan. Waltman gets caught up in that situation and Beer Money is able to land a solid kick to steal the victory. After the match The Band seems very disappointed and you can tell this feud isn’t over just yet.

Winner: Beer Money

Abyss vs Bobby Lashley

Since Abyss decided to attack Bobby Lashley backstage and knock him out... Hogan decided he would face the new TNA member and sure enough its Mr. Kennedy. He comes out with his microphone and the same gimmick that he held in the WWE.

Kennedy comes in spectacle and ends up getting thrown down early by Abyss. He has a hard time rebounding against some of the toughest competition hes had in a while but traps Abyss in the corner and is able to take control. From here Abyss is slown down big time very early in the match and starts fighting kind of sluggish shich is a bad sign for Abyss. Kennedy uses the ring posts as weapons and even begins taunting... alot. Abyss finally gets back in it by capitalizing on a distraction but Kennedy takes back initiative right away.

Kennedy is very confident at this point in the match but when an almost guaranteed pinfall fails, he realizes keeping The Monster down for three seconds is going to be harder than he thought. Abyss rips back into the back throwing boots and slams at Kennedy until he gets the near fall. Abyss sets up for the chokeslam but Kennedy counters back when he needs to. Kennedy goes to drop a vicious elbow on Abyss but he jumps up just in time to dodge it and throw down a choke slam that shook the whole ring. Abyss almost pulls out the win but Kennedy is able to hit him with a brass knuckle matching the steel chair Abyss tried to bring in and is able to defeat The Monster on his TNA debut.

Winner: Kennedy

AJ Styles (c) vs Kurt Angle- TNA Heavyweight Championship

The main event starts out with a lot of intensity and you can tell both wrestlers are fired up as they both go for fast pins and throw themselves into eachother with high velocity. The two greats have a staredown making you realize that only one of these men can win and its going to be very hard for whoever does.

The match picks up and AJ Styles is showing off his skills by outperforming Kurt Angle and drops a a painful knee into Angle's back to change the tone of the match. Kurt Angle goes for a counter but ends up taking an elbow to the face that drops him outside the ring. AJ Styles goes for the crossbody block diving out of the ring but Kurt turns it around on him by taking out his legs to drop him off the ring apron. When AJ gets up he is greeted by a follow-up clotheline that puts Kurt Angle right back in this match.

The two go back and forth until Kurt Angle throws AJ Styles back with a suplex that put him in control. Angle locks in a headlock but Styles is slow to break free making you wonder if he has what it takes to get out of an ankle lock or figure four is he has to. Just like against Tomko on last weeks impact, Ric Flair decides to get a better view of the match and head ringside. Shortly after Kurt Angle charges AJ and he ducks it basically flipping Kurt Angle over the rope but he holds on only to be smashed by a huge frontflip moonsault out of the ring.

The highflying attack continues but Kurt Angle gets ahold of Styles and is able to get back into wrestling his style by throwing Styles around with multiple suplexs but he isnt able to get the count. Styles counters an Olympic Slam that almost dooms him but the match remains close. Kurt Angle breaks the ice by locking in the ankle lock but Styles breaks free quick. The war continues with many back and fourth moves.

AJ goes for a quick finisher but Kurt Angle counters in a big way by locking in the ankle lock but Styles breaks free again just a little slower this time. AJ Styles puts Kurt down with a solid DDT that throws Kurt Angle out of his grove and he charges into the ring post leading to AJ hitting him with his own finisher, the Olympic Slam. Although near losing Kurt Angle is able to kick out and eventually lead to a nice move off the top turnbuckle.

Kurt Angle locks in the ankle lock for the third time which is always a charm. AJ Styles taps out but at the exact instance, Ric Flair pulls the referee from the ring. Angle chases Flair causing enough distraction for AJ to drop Angle. Styles grabs his title belt and uses it to deck Kurt Angle, knocking him out cold. The referee is brought back into the ring and gives Styles the slow three count to destroy Angles last chance in 2010.

Winner: AJ Styles

Well as your friend, I should probably say "great article". But that PPV was honestly the worst in TNA history. I was facepalming myself every fifth minute! Then again, it was better than any WWE ppv in recent years.

Good written but I certainly disagree with your opinions ;)

Not sure why but unlike most people... TNA has always interested me more then WWE. So I liked this PPV because I havent watched TNA PPV in a long time.

So compared to the sleeping pill that is TNA Impact... I thought it was alright :/

It was the 1st time I watched a TNA PPV. I watched then... ok it is not bad but not completely satisfied (I'm still following TNA rivalries for several monthes). Hopefully there was the Main Event that was great.

ugh < I actually did watch the whole match and the part on that was alot longer. See both of my last two articles finished with about 2008 words so I only needed to cut a sentence or two.

When this article was finished, I had about 100 words to cut and it wasnt easy. So yeah I cut out most of the ODB, Tara review because I felt it was the least interesting match to the readers.

Where is the 6 sided ring? well i guess the only thing that was original(well from its US Counterparts) in TNA is gone.

Not to nickpick but Sean Morley didn't use a heavy frog splash. It was a regular Superfly Snuka type splash called the "Money Shot". Since Guerrero died everytime some flys off the top its called a frog splash, just kinda bothers me, but otherwise good article.

Tkellionaire, it was a good sumary of the PPV.
However, I'll have to agree with Fontaine, Genesis 2010 was the worst TNA PPV comparing to last year. Only the Main Event made up to the expectations. I only hope, that it was just a sloppy beggining of Hogan era and in the future upgraded TNA will speed up a lot... Hope so...

As for me, I DESPISE TNA's writers. Their promos absolutly suck. But, on second thought, their wrestlers actually WRESTLE, not just keep a headlock in the center of the ring. WWE is starting to suck ass.

Almost nobody in the UK saw Genesis because they put it on a channel nearly nobody has.
There's a facebook group about it if you want to search to complain. It's having an effect already.

I love how they only let Tara have the title for a week. she needs to hold it for a longer time then that.

TNA was better than WWE since it became popular in early 2000's. If it is not careful though it will ruin itself.
