Highland View: Rise And Fall- Part 3

Highland View: Rise And Fall- Part 3

Hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome to yet another exciting edition of Highland View, today I will be going back to the ‘Rise and Fall’ series and my wrestler this week is Scott Steiner! Yes I got asked to do Scott Steiner, so here we have it. Enough chit-chat, let’s get to it!

The Start
As you may or may not know Scott Steiner is old, very old (hence why he’s in TNA right now), so his start of his career was back in the 80’s! Yes I am not kidding you there. Anyway Scott had some proper wrestling; I mean the wrestling at the Olympics, background. He was a 4 time NCAA Divison 1 qualifier (which I guess is very good) in which he finished 2nd for 3 years in a row! So that is a pretty good start, don’t think many of the big names in wrestling nowadays can say they did freestyle Aggreko roman wrestling at college!

So Scott then became part of WCW a few years before the ‘Monday Night Wars’ really kicked off big time. That didn’t mean however that Scott wasn’t a big guy (in the company) himself.  Scott and his brother, Rick, went on to be the Tag Team Champions in WCW. Not really going to get into the nitty gritty of what exactly happened. Cut a long story short, he won the tag team championships, lost them. From there he went to be a Television Champion, quite a big deal back then. Ultimately, a higher up by the name of Bill Watts, decided he didn’t like the Steiners and ‘low-balled’ their contracts. This basically means that he reduced their wages to earn more money, nothing at all like the WWE eh?

Over to WWF
Now what is interesting about this time period is that there is no contract clauses in which wrestlers can’t appear until a certain date after being released (in the WWE it’s 90 days). This meant that Scott was out of WCW and into the WWF within a month! Again a similar story happened like in WCW. He and his brother tagged up, feuded with some other guys (including Ted DiBiase) and ended up winning the tag team titles. What I liked about their title defence was the “Quebec Rules”, this was where a match could end by disqualification. Now this was similar to the stuff we have seen, someone throws in an illegal weapon and the ref sees the person with it (one of the Steiners) they get DQ’ed and thus lose the titles. After they lost the titles Scott beat one of the guys (The Quebecers) that won the tag team title off him and apart from a Royal Rumble appearance both the Steiners were out of the WWF by mid-1994. Not really going to go over all the nitty gritty about his stint in ECW, it’s quite like his current stint in TNA, I really couldn’t care less.

WCW Time!
After having had enough of being Extreme Scott went back to where he first started, WCW in 1996. This was an interesting time for Scott. After splitting with his brother he got even bigger, which is scary to think, and became part of the legendary nWo! Basically to stop me from waffling on and on, Steiner feuded with some beast guys, when nWo was disbanded. These were guys such as Goldberg, Booker T and Diamond Dallas Page to name a few. What is great about Steiner’s stint in WCW was that it was during the ‘Monday Night Wars’. Now for people like me, people born during the ‘wars’, we know nothing about them apart from what I have seen. All I can tell you is, they looked AWESOME. Nothing that we have nowadays is even CLOSE to what those were like. Anyway, that can be saved for a later article. I would probably say that this second stint in WCW was probably the ‘peak’ for Scott, so to speak. After re-joining the nWo and wining the WCW World Heavyweight Championship Scott did something somewhat strange. Afger the WWF had bought over WCW he decided that he wasn’t going to jump ships, no he decided to finish in the WCW and find work elsewhere, in the form of the WWA (world Wrestling All-Stars), yeah that’s right hadn’t really heard of them myself. So I won’t really bother to cover all the gory details because no on really cares. What comes next is a bit of a shocker.

WWE Switch
Wait what? Yes that is right, Steiner eventually went back (again he loves to go back to places) to the WWE. Now to sum it up in short, I really couldn’t care too much about Steiner’s time in the WWE. Everyone really has their prime, and for me , by this stage he had passed his prime. He was 40 when he signed with the WWE, from there on it was only going to get worse and worse, not matter how well you take care of yourself. Anyway, he did form a tag team with Test and he did have a bit of a feud with Triple H. That is basically most of the stuff that happened in his WWE career.

TNA Switch
Yep like all the old WWE has-beens Scott found a home in TNA. Now as you should know I really don’t like TNA. They are basically the failures of the WWE, or guys not good enough to be in the WWE. This, for me, would seriously show the ‘fall’ of Steiner, I mean credit where it’s due for carrying on wrestling, but why TNA? Yes they gave you decent money but it’s TNA. Anyway he did his usual of being an enforcer and I do remember him in TNA for that. I used to watch TNA quite a bit back in those days (2007 ish) because I didn’t know a lot about wrestling. I though Scott was amazing in TNA, that was mainly due to the fact I knew very little about wrestling, but oh well. The main ‘highlight’ of this stint in the TNA was his part of the Main Event Mafia. This was probably one of the better storylines from TNA, only problem is I couldn’t name about 5 storylines from TNA. That is pretty much all I really care to talk about in TNA, I don’t like the company, I don’t like most of the wrestlers (Heck, I don’t know HALF of their wrestlers)!

Apart from this Scott left TNA went to WWC and yet again, went back to TNA. Why I really don’t know. Surely he could have just stayed in TNA and done nothing instead of leaving for a year and returning? Anyway, that is basically the rise and fall of Scott Steiner. Have different opinions to this? Want to see me cover a different wrestler? Simply comment below, and I will get back to you, I always appreciate your feedback :)

I may do, I mean Rock hasn't really had a fall that much, he chose to leave and the WWE brought him back to the top of the company with no questions asked.....
