Highland View: Storylines/Gimmicks That Never Should Have Been

Hello ladies and gentlemen I am Highlander G and today we shall be doing something different, looking at storylines that never should have happened. So let’s get down to it;

Number 1- The Nexus
I do know that I have mentioned this before but I must mention it again! Now this isn’t me moaning about the ORIGINAL Nexus, I am against the ‘New’ Nexus. Ok the original idea was a GREAT idea at the time. However, like most WWE storylines it quickly died out. ‘New’ Nexus did nothing, honestly they gave us Batista 2 (Mason Ryan) and let us hear CM Punk give some promos but NOTHING else happened. Basically WWE should have taken out Ryan and Punk a re-named the group “Those guys who will job on Superstars and be gone from the WWE within 2 years”. Funny how things work out eh?  Comparing the first Nexus storyline to the ‘New’ Nexus is like saying Hawaii isn’t that much smaller than Texas!  The New Nexus storyline SUCKED. I would much rather have watched some dumb diva’s match then watch The New Nexus storyline over again! Now that says something.

Number 2- Cody Rhodes’s Dashing Gimmick
Wow WWE, way to miss the mark and a half there! Yes I get it sort of helped Cody Rhodes to work his way into the high mid-card near main-event level but the gimmick was STUPID. Normally you make gimmicks so that it can create a storyline of some form. How can “I act slightly feminine and all the WWE divas REALLY think I’m hot” give any storyline? Do you expect Justin Gabriel to come running out in tidey-whities and demand a match or something? No-one actually gave a monkey’s about that gimmick and it showed as it died down pretty quickly, and frankly Mysterio breaking his nose was one of the biggest breaks Cody could have got.

Number 3- Legacy
Honestly WWE where have we seen this before? Where have we seen henchmen revolve around one main eventer? Oh heya Edge, how you doing? Storylines like this only work for about 2 to 3 months MAX. No human on earth would let themselves get beaten up week after week just because one guy (yes he’s a good wrestler but..) asked them to defend him. Seriously even if you paid someone hundreds of thousands of dollars (which WWE wouln’t have done to them) they still wouldn’t do it. So why was Legacy so bad in my eyes? Cause they had 3 people. That rarely works, EVER. For a storyline to work a group needs at LEAST 4+. Look at the Original Nexus great storyline because they had the numbers. Gosh WWE just cause DX worked doesn’t mean every small group will work. Wouldn’t you want to play of both Rhode’s and DiBiase’s past to build their future?

Number 4- The Muhammad Hassan Terrorist thing
Honestly WWE, why? Why on EARTH would you think it would be ok to have a storyline in the WWE about TERRORISM? No sane person on EARTH would think of that storyline. Obviously I shouldn’t need to signify why this storyline is just morally wrong but let me give my view on it. I know that WWE were trying to put Hassan over as a super heel, but come on there has GOT to be a better way than make him a terrorist! Not only that but WWE made him out to be the stereotypical Arab that Americans get stick for thinking (they have stereotypical views). Now I for one LIVE in an Arab country, and have done for SIX years. It is one of the safest places in the WORLD! Almost 99.999 recurring percent of arabs are genuinely nice people, they all aren’t terrorist. Gosh, in the land of the ‘free’ WWE really went down the wrong road.

Number 5- Spirit Squad
Luckily I didn’t watch wrestling at this point but after seeing some of the footage I literally wanted to rip my HAIR out! I get that they were meant to help promote/ push DX back into the spotlight, but honestly couldn’t you think of a better way? Do we need to have lots of young, somewhat decent wrestlers acting like pre-pubescent teenagers? No, that why we have Justin Bieber! I didn’t even see the point in this storyline, at first they were cheerleaders and then they become Tag Champions? I know WWE you didn’t care about the Tag Team Division right now, but did you just give up caring back then? Clearly since you let the Spirit Squad of all tag teams win the belts! The only thing that I can honestly say we got something good out of the Spirit Squad was the fact that we got Dolph Ziggler, ok a few years later, but he should be one of the great WWE superstars of the future.

Number 6- Kane/Lita Marriage
Now boy am I glad that I finished with this one! Honestly WWE, do you think we have absolutely no common sense and/or brains? Why in all that is holy would KANE marry anyone? He’s a monster you always call him, so why on earth would Kane turn ‘soft’ and fall in love? Why would a HOT diva like Lita go for a bald headed psycho like Kane? It made absolutely no sense. I honestly wanted to be in that room when the pitched the idea “Hey, let’s make Kane, a bit of a weirdo marry a hot diva, like Lita. Wow that’s a great idea!”. Just STOP WWE, stop with these rubbish storylines.

Now onto our question;

Question: Who at this time would be your champions and would you retire/bring back any titles what would they be?

Answer: Well let me break it down for you;
WWE Champ: Ladberto Del Rio
WHC Champ: Cody Rhodes
IC Champion: Daniel Bryan/ Wade Barrett
US Champ: Drew McIntyre/ Evan Bourne

Well if I was to bring back any title then for me it would HAVE to be the cruiserweight title. Right now WWE has QUITE a few cruiserweights that are doing nothing. I would bring back the title and give it its rightful place in the mid card of shows and maybe on the odd occasion make the Cruiserweight championship match a main event of Superstars!

As for retire there’s no really as WWE unified the divas and women’s title so that job is really done. Although I’d reitre the divas belt and bring back the women’s belt to add SOME form of prestige to the god-awful diva’s division
