Welcome back ladies and gentlemen to the third installment of “If CM Were a GM”. The past two weeks i have taken a look at two of my favorite superstars in “The Celtic Warrior” Sheamus, and the New Nexus leader, CM Punk. This week i decided to take a break from my favorites, because I am sure you readers are getting tired of seeing me kiss up to my favorite superstars for the last few weeks. This week I will be taking a look at he most controversial superstar in the WWE, the WWE Champion, John Cena. Just to give a little background on my opinion of John Cena, I personally respect and like John Cena the man, but i really just can not stand John Cena the character. I do not like “SuperCena” but I will get more into that in my evaluation, so without further adeu, let us get started.
Mic-Work: John Cena has always been solid on the microphone. He can cut a promo any day on anything, he is so comfortable on the mic but that is sometimes the problem. John Cena has a tendency to bury his opponents in his promos. He is too comfortable on the mic sometimes, and he treats his opponent or upcoming match like a joke. I’m tired of him making fun of his opponent to the point where we can not take the fued seriously. If he showed some heat and intensity in his promos I could really buy-in to some of his fueds. I also do not like how he is so easy-going, going in to pay-per-view matches. I do not ever think he is going to lose because he never shows even a hint of fear of losing, in fact he never even shows doubt in him not winning. On the other hand, when he actually does flip the switch into serious mode, he can cut a really great promo that would make me want to buy the next pay-per-view, but until he learns how to put over his opponents on the mic instead of burying them, he’s still got some work cut out for him.
In-Ring Work: I would like to take this paragraph to discuss all the complaints about John Cena’s “five moves of doom”. I do not think people care about John Cena’s “five moves of doom” as much as they care about how he uses them. Every superstar has his moveset, Randy Orton really only uses five moves the entire match! Forget just an ending five moves, other than stomps, drop-kicks, spike DDT’s, canadian backbreakers, and RKO’s, Randy Orton really does not use many moves. The problem with John Cena’s moveset is when he uses it. The “five moves of doom” only come out when Cena appears to be down and out in a match. He uses them to come back in the match completely and end up winning when it seemed like he was about to lose just a minute ago. The best example of “Super Cena” is his I Quit Match at Over The Limit 2011 against The Miz. John Cena got dominated for 20+ minutes, getting hit with multiple weapons, facing not one but two men (Alex Riley and The Miz) and at his lowest point, he popped up and won in less than two minutes. I repeat, TWO MINUTES. Am i supposed to really believe that match was even real? That was outrageous, but hey, that is just John Cena. I am really sick of Super Cena. My most memorable memories of Super Cena are at Breaking Point in 2009 in another I Quit match, this one against Randy Orton. Orton did the same as The Miz in beating Cena up the whole match to just lose to a quickly applied STF. Another memory is the Royal Rumble 2011. He got in the match with four, yes four, members of the New Nexus. He immediately cleared out three men easily in about a minute. Again, am I really supposed to believe that is even possible? Super Cena needs to get lost and regular man John Cena needs to come back.
Where He Is Now: Whether we all like it or not, he is the number one superstar in the WWE. He is Vince’s golden boy, and that will not change for a long time. He is the current WWE champion and he is the only real WWE champion in my opinion. Honestly, to me everybody else just feels like a filler champion for John Cena. He has been the grand marshall at the Fiesta Bowl for college football, the spokesperson for Gillette razors, and has made appearances on Saturday Night Live. He is the only WWE superstar that is in mainstream America anymore.
Where I see Him in The Future: I see John Cena staying right where he is for a very long time. I think he will easily pass Ric Flair’s record as a 16-time WWE Champion. To address the more direct future though, he has a title defense coming up at the Money In The Bank Pay-Per-View against my personal favorite superstar, CM Punk. Although there is a lot of intrigue going into that match, I do see John Cena retaining and going on to Summerslam as the WWE Champion. I really hope the Triple Threat Match from last week’ Raw meant something, and Alberto Del Rio is given his title shot at Summerslam.I would really love to see John Cena vs. Alberto Del Rio only because I can actually see Alberto Del Rio winning. Maybe he will not win at Summerslam, but I think he will capture his first WWE Championship at a more minor Pay-Per-View. If John Cena were to lose to Del Rio, I see them having a nice long fued after that. If they draw it out long enough, Cena could have a small other fued and then begin his build-up to Wrestlemania 28 with The Rock. I hope John Cena is not the champion going in to Wrestlemania though, because that match does not need the championship. I hope another fued that may need the title belt to enhance the fued gets it so we get two main-event matches instead of just one.
Conclusion: John Cena needs to lose the Super Cena gimmick and start to look more human. He also needs to stop burying his opponents on the mic and build them up more. Once he does that, he already has the legend status coming his way, so he could really be one of the greatest of all time.

Paco makes a point but I think the author was deliberately undercutting Orton's moveset. The bottom line is ALL superstars have handful of go-to moves, whether it's 5 or 11... the point that the author makes is how Cena uses his moveset. You see it once in the match, usually at the very end when he completely buries his opponents in matches.

Randy Orton has more than five moves....Clothelines,Dropkick, Orton Stomps, Jumping Knee Drop, Snap Powerslam, Rope Hung DDT, Orton's Inverted Back Breaker, Elevated Neckbreaker (uses it rarely though) Punt Kick,Olympic Slam, RKO. That's ll moves, 6 more than you mentioned. Seriously, if people are going to hate on main eventers, at least back uup your hate.
