Lethal injection: NXT Report 29/06/2010

Welcome to Lethal Injection #8! Tonight is the first vote and the WWE Universe gets half the…wait… we’re getting something. Let’s send it to Ashley Valance.

Surprise!

We open up with Shannon introducing the rookies.  She reminds us after they are all out that it’s vote night. At least I think that’s what she said. Ashley botched so much during the announcement that it makes it hard to get excited. Suddenly, she drops the bombshell…that the first elimination is tonight!

Before I continue, let me ask this. Wasn’t this the “test run”, not the first elimination just 3 weeks ago? Were we not waiting till week 12? Just though I’d put that out there….

Anyway, Ashley throws it to Matt, who introduces the Keg Karry (for illiteration purposes) challenge. Whoever wins the challenge, gets immunity from the elimination. (Just to note, the person who wins is imunity is in no way in trouble of needing it).

Here are the results of the challenge.

McGuillicuty: DQ (dropped) Says it’s heavier then a normal keg (and says some gibberish about Harris).  He then says he won’t need it, because he’ll be #1.

Cannon: 12.7 secs (time to beat)

Watson: 13.0

Cottonwood: 13.3

Kaval: Doesn’t do it, and says he’ll only risk his health in the ring for the WWE Universe. Striker says it’s a cop-out.

O’Neil: DQ (slipped) Says don’t drink and drive.

Harris:  DQ (dropped) Says let him worry about him.

Riley: 13.8

Lucky wins immunity. He says “there may be people bigger than me, taller than me, but no one is luckier”. Lucky celebrates.

There’s video about Watson, then the announcement MVP vs. Husky Harris, next!

MVP (with Percy Watson) vs. Husky Harris (with “Dashing” Cody Rhodes)

If you like Cody’s new nickname, please leave a comment, so I know to come find you.

So here we go, the second Pro vs. Joe…um… Pro vs. Rookie match. MVP is on his way down as we come back from commercial. The two square off a few seconds, the actually start the match. MVP goes for a shoulder block, but Husky doesn’t move. MVP starts getting the advantage. MVP starts to quickly get the advantage and hits the Drive-By. Harris rolls (funny, because he’s fat) out of the ring as we go to commercial.

This took too long to get going…. Husky should have used his size to over power MVP but.. .what do I know about booking. >.<

Anyway, back from commercial, and MVP is chopping on Harris, and puts him in an arm submission. Harris gets out of the submission, but thrown into the corner. MVP comes at him, but Harris ducks. Harris then hits a rock-bottom kind of move for a 2-count. Harris taunts a little, then tries a rear-naked choke. Harris then starts dropping elbows on MVP, and then a BIG Splash for another 2-count. Harris hits a suplex for a 2-count. Harris bodyslams MVP…twice... for a 1 count. Harris then puts on a reverse bearhug on MVP, but MVP punches out, but can’t do much with it. Harris goes for a Big Running Senton, but MVP moves out of the way and MVP gets the momentum back, hitting the Ballin’ elbow drop. Then MVP hits a Royal Flush… um…  jumping reverse STO for the 1-2-3.

Match rating: B-

This was actually a very good match after the beginning. Husky played his part right near the end, but it’s not time for the Pro to lose. Not yet….

After the match, MVP offers his hand to Harris, and Harris puts up his fingers and says “that close”.

Kaval, Cannon, McGuillicitty vs. Cottonwood, Riley, and O’Neil

So we’re taking everyone who wasn’t seen tonight and throwing them in a match….

Cottonwood and McGuillicuty start it off, but not for long. O’Neil tags himself in, and McGuillicutty tags in Cannon before anything can really happen. Cannon gets things rolling, but O’Neil strength shows and he takes control. Riley then gets tagged in and continues the punishment. Riley tags in the big-man Cottonwood, who uses the ropes to choke Cannon. (I’m filing a complaint). Then in comes O’Neil, who hits a few big moves, then back comes Riley with a headlock. Cannon finally hits his way out, but Riley takesthe control back. Cannon stops a move int eh corner, but Riley doesn’t allow the tag. Cannon whips Riley into the turnbuckles and tags Kaval. Kaval rules the match and goes for the pin. Cottonwood and O-Neil come in and throw out Kaval. While the ref is dealing with them, McGullicutty hits the swinging neckbreaker, then sends Cottonwood over the ropes, and Cannon hits a dropkick on O’Neil who rolls out of the ring. Kaval hits the Warrior’s Way on Riley for the 1-2-3!

Match rating: B-

We come back from commercial for a RAW rebound, showing the legend beatdown, and a Pay-per-view run down for Money in the Bank, and another showing of Edge’s first MITB win and cash in.

Finally, it’s the voting results. I’ll put side by side comparisons to what I called last week and what the Pros/Universe vote this week.

Laz’s Vote/ predictions                                                            Pros/Universe

#1 – Alex Riley (voted for on WWE)                                                #1 - Kaval

#2 – Eli Cottonwood                                                                          #2 - Watson

#3 – Kaval                                                                                     #3 - McGillicutty

#4 – Titus O’Neil                                                                          #4 – Alex Riley

#5 – Lucky Cannon                                                                          #5 – Lucky Cannon

#6 – Michael McGillicuty                                                             #6 – Eli Cottonwood

#7 – Percy Watson                                                                         #7 – Husky Harris

#8 – Husky Harris                                                                        #8 – Titus O’Neil

Titus left with this word of advice "Make life what you can - take each and every opportunity you can to make it a win!"

Ok, at the start of this sentence, I was at word 948. So I just gave a report on a wrestling show in under 1,000 words. I would like to say it’s because I didn’t put as much detail into things as I could have, but so much of the show was so slow paced that there’s not much to tell really.

So, I decided to go on a little rant before my new rankings this week. Kaval should not have been #1. In the top three, yes. Even #2, I’d go with that. But #1 is a little much, but, as Cole said, no surprise because of internet voters. And that fact I’m agreeing with Cole, the botch in a tie, on something makes me physically ill. However, that’s not my concern; I knew that my ranking would not have matched exactly. However… O’Neil out first?

I want to know how #1 we can vote somebody off after three weeks. Yes, his record was 0-3, I get that, but he wasn’t the worse out there. I think, at the end, we needed more time to rate these guys.

Anyway, time for my rankings after this week. Titus O’Neil is out of this week’s rankings, as he cannot be ranked by any way next week.

#1 – Alex Riley (1) – 2-1 - Yes, I know the Universe has him 4th, but I really believe he’s the best talent out there. His only loss was in a 6-man tag, and it took two finishers to do it. He has his character, and the skills.

#2 – Kaval (3) – 1-2 – He moves up from #3 this week. He gets a big win, even though it was a 6-man tag, the pin was on my #1 guy. I’ve said Kaval is one of the most talented out there, but I still think size will be too much to overcome.

#3 – Eli Cottonwood (2) – 2-1 – He lost in the 6-man tag match, but not directly, which is why it’s only one drop.  Cottonwood still has the potential to do great things in this competition, and I hope WWE lets him do it.

#4 – Micheal McGullicuty (6) – 3-0 – And if Titus was still in, Michael would still be in this spot! He is really starting to impress me, despite his fumble after the Keg Challenge. That swinging neckbreaker seems to be a one-hitter quitter, and I’ll believe the illusion.

#5 – Lucky Cannon (5) – 1-2 – The ONLY pick I got right >.< But I’ll take that. Him getting the majority of the beating and being able to take it in the 6-man tag showed his resilience.

#6 - Percy Watson (7) – 1-1 – His Pro won, and he missed the keg contest by .3 seconds.  He moves up because Titus is gone. I don’t know what people see in him….

#7 – Husky Harris (8) – 0-2 – I’ll admit he did a good job against MVP, but he was the worse in these three weeks we’ve seen. However, he’s on the verge of elimination. So no matter what, he needs to step it up. And quick.

I would also like to add one more point to my fustration about Titus being booted. I get stuck with Ryder for the rest of the season, with no Pro to ease the sting.

This has been Laz Langston, and this was the NXT Report for June 29th, 2010.
