Lethal Injection: Raw Report 05/07/2010

This is Lethal Injection #9! And here we go!

Opening

We start off with NeXus in the ring, saying that the thing last week with Ricky Steamboat was just to punish management. The lights flash and the e-mail sound chimes and the GM says the ban… is lifted.

Almost right away, out comes Cena, and he brings Randy Orton, R-Truth, Evan Bourne, John Morrison & Unified Tag Team Champions The Hart Dynasty. But before anything can go down, WWE Champion Sheamus, United States Champion The Miz, Edge, Chris Jericho, Ted DiBiase & The Usos all come out and fight with their respective rivalry members. The GM makes all Money In The Bank participants fight each other in matches tonight, and orders Cena to shake hands with Barrett later tonight to make peace.

Segment Rating: B+

Can we ACTUALLY see a showdown tonight?

John Morrison vs. Ted DiBiase

Morrison kicks to the midsection, but DiBiase gains control. DiBiase keeps control, even getting a 2-count, but then Morrison punches his way out and starts gaining momentum. Morrison keeps it, getting a couple of 2 counts. DiBiase counters, but Morrison hits an enziguri out of no where. Maryse gets Morrison’s coat, distracting him, and, after a poke to the eye, DiBiase hits dream street for the 1-2-3.

Match Winner: Ted DiBiase, Jr.

Match Rating:  B-

Quick little match, but still a very good performance between these two men.

The greatest tag-team… of all the times

Backstage, Santino and Kozlov are on there way to the ring. Santino says they’ll be the best tag-team ever! Russia and Italy back together… it’ll be like World War II, without the Germans.

>.<

Kozlov says “if we lose tonight, I’ll pound my fist in your face”.

Segment Rating: B-

Win Kozlov. Win. Subtle humor, but none the less there.

Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov vs. William Regal and … The Great Khali

After saying that Marella and Kozlov made an enemy of him, Regal calls out his partner, The Great Khali. Regal and Kozlov start off first, and in comes Marella who hits a bottom rope axe handle (I kid you not). Regal puts up with Marella’s Karate attempts for a few seconds then hits him down. Marella then gets Kozlov in, and Kozlov quickly wins with an Iron Curtain.

Match Winners: Marella and Kozlov

Match Rating: C

After the match, Khali hits Regal with a Brain Chop (with help from Kozlov and Marella) and Marella and Kozlov dance, while Kozlov just watches, shaking his head.

A word from the wise

Sheamus and Arn Anderson have a back and forth after Arn updates us on “The Dragon’s” condition after the beat down. Arn warns Sheamus that, he may be the big fish of the company, but if he doesn’t help with getting rid of the NeXus, he’ll be a Great White in a small mud pound. Sheamus shrugs it off, reminding us his the Dubya-Dubya-Eee Champion, and fears no one.

Miz vs. R-Truth

Miz comes out and raps (badly) to R-Truth’s music. Miz then does his catchphrase… and stops to hit Truth with the mic. Miz starts beating down  on Truth. The bell never rings as The Miz does an armbreaker across the ropes, leaving Truth whincing in pain.  Miz grabs the Miz and watches Truth like a child watching a moth burn.

Miz asks “Does it hurt, Truth. They say the Truth hurts”.  Then says “this is what will happen to every single one of the Money in the Bank participants, and that’s the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth… cuz I’m the Miz… and I’m…awesome.”

Segment Rating: A-

My original score was B+, but remembering how well Truth sold the injury, I got to give it that grade.

Next up is The Cutting Edge! Edge (the host) comes out and the ring is surrounded by ladders, and that includes a ladder inside the ring as well. Edge asks for a moment of silence for R-Truth. He only did one song, but he did it well. Edge says the question that remains id should he let The NeXus slide? He says that they need a leader, and he can probably give it to them. He says Money in the Bank means World Title! Edge then brings out Bourne…but out comes Jericho instead. Jericho says he doesn’t take a backseat to anybody. He says Wade won because of him, and that he should be the Nexus’s leader. Edge says “Why should they listen to a man who can’t beat Jericho?” Jericho says all Edge ever wants to be is Chris Jericho. After a little more tongue lashing, Edge has enough and attacks Jericho. Jericho counters and locks in the Wall of Jericho! Bourne comes in and hits Jericho, then gets out of the ring. The lights flicker and the GM sends in an e-mail asking “If you want to see some action, give me a hell yeah!” He orders the ring cleared, and makes tag match between Jericho and Edge versus Bourne… and Randy Orton!

Jericho/Edge vs. Bourne/Orton

We come back from commercial and the bell rings. First up is Jericho and Bourne. Jericho takes a couple of shots, but then gets on Bourne  quick. Bourne finally gets the speed going and gets a few shots in. Bourne tags in Orton, and Orton keeps the momentum going. Orton goes for the RKO, but Jericho tags in Edge. After solid back and forth action, Orton takes control. He hits several big moves, including his “Stomps around the World”. In comes Bourne, who keeps things going, but edge gets the tag and in comes Jericho. But Bourne is ready and kicks Jericho out of the ring. Jericho tries to get in the ring, but Bourne hits a baseball slide in, then goes over the top with a splash. Bourne gets Jericho back into the ring. Jericho hits a big move and gives his team control as we go to commercial.

We come back form commercial and Edge has a hold of Bourne. Bourne gets up and hits some kicks… but Edge hits a big move, and tags in Jericho. Jericho then puts on a backbreaker submission. Finally, Bourne kicks out of the hold, but Bourne can’t get the tag on Orton. Edge is in, lifts Bourne up in a suplex…but Bourne kicks out of the suplex. Double tag, and Orton takes control quick and hits the second-rope DDT. Orton hits the ground, getting ready for the RKO.. but Edge comes in, but Orton chases him out…and Jericho takes advantage. Jericho keeps the pressure on not letting Orton get anything going.  Orton fights out of a submission, and finally gets some breathing room between himself and Jericho, but too far from Bourne. Both Jericho crawls to Edge and, after a moment of pause, edge tags Bourne, but Orton got to Bourne. Edge counters a move form Bourne with a big boot. Jericho tags in and talks trash to Edge. Edge SPEARS Jericho, and leaves the ring. Then Bourne hits Air-Bourne on Jericho for the 1-2-3!

Match Winners: Bourne/Orton

Match Rating: B+

Orton and Bourne celebrate after the match, but Orton hits Bourne with the RKO, reminding us that he may be a face, but he’s still the viper.

RKO-selling rating: A++ for Bourne, who sold the RKO BEAUTIFULLY!

Time killer!

Orton is backstage and runs into Otunga, who just wants to talk. He says none of this has anything to do with him. NeXus actually apologizes, and says that they want a truce with Orton and that, depending on how the thing goes tonight with Cena and Barrett, they may make an appearance in the steel cage, and if the MITB winner is in a feud with them... they can make sure there’s NO champion.

Backstage, we learn the Uso’s will be getting a title shot against the Hart Dynasty. They basically use the time to remind us who they are, and to call the Hart Dynasty ignorant.

Alicia comes up and complains about not being interviewed since winning the title. She says the Fatal 4-way was not a fluke, and that she’ll prove that in her title match… next.

Segment Rating: C-. Thanks for finding a way to waste ten minutes….

Diva’s Title Match: Alicia Fox vs. Eve Torres

Three words; Diva Main Event….

Alicia’s in the ring as we come back from commercial, and Eve Torres comes out after we get reminded of what happened at Fatal 4-way.

Good back and forth to start the match, but Eve starts to take control. After a few big moves, Alicia starts acting hurt… she waits for Eve to get off her game and kicks Eve in the gut, and hits her version of the scissor-kick-face-buster-thing on Eve for the 1-2-3.

Match Winner: And STILL The Butterfly Champion, Alicia Fox.

Small rant; get rid of some of these worthless Diva’s, get rid of the butterfly, put all the women on one show, and bring in a different championship. Please…?

Orton vs. Edge announced for next week. Looks like a good match, and it better live up to it.

The showdown.

Ok, let me just say, I had expected this kind of showdown last week. They probably had it planned, but with Barrett’s visa issues put it on hold. I’ll tell myself WWE is that smart anyway….

Barrett comes out to the NeXus’s music. Barrett says he’s sorry Cena has been caught in the middle of all this, but before he continues, that he wants Cena to come out, and shake hands with him like men.

Cena comes out, looking like a dog who thought he saw a squirrel. He’s looking around for NeXus members. Barrett continues to talk, running down what the NeXus did to him, and assure him he is not in they’re future plans. He wants to shake hands with Cena and move on. The NeXus can either make things easy, or hard.

Cena wants to make sure that it stops… that all the chaos and attacks stop tonight with a hand shake. Cena wants to make sure that it’ll all be over. Cena puts out his hand…and pulls it away. Cena says that the future is going to be HIM taking the NeXus down!  Barrett says the fact he’s standing pays to what they’ve done is nothing to what they could do. Barrett says shake my hand…or suffer the consequences. After a few seconds,  Cena shakes Barrett’s hand…then pulls him up for an Attitude Adjustment.

NeXus invades, but the RAW locker room (of faces) is out.  The NeXus escapes except for Darren Young. The GM ‘chimes’ in and says that he wants peace. If there is none, there will be consequences. Cena locks on the STF, and the GM locks in the punishment, booking a 7-on-1 match between the NeXus and Cena. Cena takes out his frustrations out on Darren Young, using the ropes and  steel steps, looking like his head will explode any seconds. Cena then throws Young over the announce table, and turns it over on Young to close out the show.

Segment Rating: A-

RAW Rating: B+

Ok, they ALMOST did this right. I would have rather seen a 1-on-1 match between one of the Rookies and Cena. Yes, we get it guys, you can beat people down because of number advantage. Let’s start showing these guys as what they are; great single wrestlers! However, I do like the ending the let Cena have with hitting the darker version of himself with everything that the NeXus did to the other people.

Still, it was a VERY good RAW, and the set-up for next week looks good. But WWE HAS to give us the full card by the end of next week or I boycott. A pay-per-view is no place for an open challenge….

Honestly, I liked the Cena that absolutely DESTROYED Darren Young. If they show more of him, I'll be happy. Don't care if I get heat for this.
