Lethal Injection: RAW Report 6/21

Welcome to the RAW report! Let’s get to it!

McMahon Opens

The WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon, come s out first. He talks for a while, but the main points are that he fired Bret Hart, and has hired a new GM who wishes to be anonymous and give his orders through Micheal Cole by e-mail.  The first e-mail dings, and the new GM has hired all 7 NXT season 1 members, which makes NXT a freaking sham. Sheamus comes out… and has a sad look on his face. He says he can’t accept the title b ythe way he won it, and goes to hand it back to McMahon. As Vince reaches for the title, Sheamus pulls it back and laughs, saying that he has it, but wants the NXT people to know that he would have won, no matter what. Out comes Cena, who wants his rematch. Sheamus says “no way, wee little man”, but the computer goes off and Cole announces cena vs sheamus… with special enforcer Mr. McMahon.

Segment Rating: B

A lot of stuff and took up a lot of time, but was well performed.

Jericho vs Bourne

Jericho says he’s putting his career on the line tonight. If he doesn’t win, he’s done. Bourne controls it early, with quick moves and some roll-up pins. Bourne has it as we go to commercial break. aJericho is in control as we come back to the match, after he chunks Bourne into the barricade. After a few big moves, Jericho throws out Bourne, who gets in by the 9 count. Bourne gets a little momentum, tries a hurricarana… but Jericho reverses it into the Walls… but Bourne counters to a tornado DDT. Jericho tries to get some more momentum. Jericho goes for a backbreaker submission. Bourne kicks out… Jericho goes up top… but Bourne counters with another hurricarana. Bourne goes for another one…  Jericho gets Bourne in the Walls… but Bourne gets to the ropes. Jericho goes after Bourne… and gets kicked in the head and is down. Bourne goes up top… goes for the SSP… and Jericho blocks, and hits the Codebreaker for the 1-2-3.

Segement rating: B+

Jericho still has a job, and the match was great for an opener and set the bat high for the night.

After the match, Jericho helps Bourne up…just to push him back down.

Three for One

We come back and McMahon is on the phone with the new GM, and tells him to not surprise him again like he did earlier. We then cut to Virgil and Ted in the locker room, and Ted apologizes for what he did to Virgil last week…then fires him. He brings in his new assistant.. MARYSE! Virgil asks “What will you do for protection” and Ted says “Go to the drug store”.

My hero.

We now cut (again) to The Hart Dynasty talking about Hart’s release. Natayla’s RAW debit singles match is tonight, and she’s dedicating it to Bret Hart.

Segment Rating: C+

Lots of talk, not a lot of enhancement.

 Natayla vs Tamina

Natayla comes out, and we get a recap of last weeks attack by the Rookies. Tamina comes out, and she takes control of the match early. Tamina misses a splash in the corner, and Natalya shows off her strength. The Uso’s mess with Natayla… Tamina gets Natayla up for a Samoan Drop, but Natayla fights out and… out come the NXT Rookies. Wade gets a mic and starts talking, but the Harts attack. The NXT Rookies beat them down, and they stand in the ring as we go to commercial.

Winner: No Contest

Match Rating: D+

For a match, it had potential.

NXT “apologizes”

Commercial comes back and the NXT rookies… are apologizing. They say they did what they did, they have what they want, and now they’re good to go. (Gabriel does a good job on the microphone, and Young still screws up.) They each apologize for their parts and to people around them. Wade closes by saying that they stood together since the beginning and that no matter who won, they would all try to get jobs. Wade tells us he still has his title shot. He says he’ll be a champion eventually, and will make no apologizes when he does.

Segment Rating: B+

RAW Rating so far: C

3 promos, 1 match, 1 No Contest. Though they have continued/moved storylines, it’s too many with no big matches.

John Morrison vs Ted DiBiase

Ted backs out as he has better things to do (Maryse) and has a replacement…

John Morrison (w/ Eli Cottonwood) vs Ted DiBiase Zach Ryder (w/ Titus O’Neil)

Why not just have Zach and Morrison to start?

Ryder takes early control, but Morrison actually has skills.  Ryder then gets back in control with some big moves. Morrison makes a fight back, but Ryder easily takes control back. Morrison breaks out of a submission and starts to take control, but Ryder starts to take it back. Morrison counters, takes down Ryder… and hits Starship Pain for the 1-2-3.

Winner: Morrison

Rating:  B

One of Ryder’s better matches, and a good match overall. Ryder is finally showing some skill to me.

Cena is backstage. Cena reacts to the NXT Rookies, saying that he’s not done with the rookies. But that his goal is to get the title back tonight. McMahon enters the frame and says that after tonight neither man ‘will have any excuse’.

Eve Torres & The Great Khali vs. Alica Fox and… Primo.

>.<

Primo and Khali star-… nevermind…Alcia and Eve start. Apparently, primo wants to live. Eve gets a headlock on early and brings down Alicia. The two go back and forth, with Alicia controlling most of the action. Eve gets going… and HITS A MOONSAULT! Primo comes in and pulls Eve off… and asks for a kiss. Eve gives him a slap, and tags in Khali, who murders Primo for the 1-2-3.

Winner: Eve & Khali

Match rating: C++

ALMOST a B-. So close. It was a great match by the women, but the ending…

We go off to commercial with The Viper making his way to the ring.

Really?

We come back, and Orton is walking down the ramp.  Apparently, Orton has something to say. The topic; NXT. He syas that he’s glad they’re signed, because he’ll kick each one of them in the skull. Orton says he hopes Barrett will win the title, so he can take it from him.

AWESOME!!!!!

Out comes Miz who says “Really?” Miz says he’s sick of Orton being in the main event, and that he’s sick of the Viper. He says it’s his turn to be the top guy. A brawl ensues. Orton gets down and ready to hit the Miz with the RKO… but Miz rolls out. Orton turns around and hits Orton with the Spear. Edge gets the mic and gets in orotn’s face, saying that “now… the fun real fun begins”.

Segment rating:  B-

Raw Rating so far: C+

Main-event set up:

1)    Sheamus just won the title the night before.

2)    The NXT rookies are still united.

3)     Cena will be leaving soon for a movie shoot.

Main Event: John Cena vs Sheamus © with Special Ref Vince McMahon.

After a long introduction process,  it turns out Vince ISN’T the ref, but the special enforcer.

Cena and Sheamus have a quick exchange. Soon, Sheamus starts beating on Cena. Sheamus has control of most of the match, hitting big powerful moves one after the other. Sheamus throws Cena to the floor as we go to commercial.

By the way, the crowd is chanting “Let’s go Cena/ Cena Sucks”.

We come back from the commercial, and Sheamus is in control. Cena fights back, tryies to shoulder block in the corner, but Sheamus moves and Cena hits the steel. Another quick exchange, but Sheamus gets back in control. Cena tries to fight back, but then a double clothesline leaves both men down. Another quick exchange, with Sheamus getting two 2-count pins. Sheamus goes for the big bicycle kick, but Cena dodges and hits the shoulder block, and a 5-knuckle shuffle. Cena drop-toes into am STFU, but Sheamus gets to the ropes and to the outside. Cena goes to the outside, and whips Cena into the steel steps. Cena, out, is carried back into the ring. Sheamus only gets a two count. Sheamus then sets up the stairs differently and does it again! Sheamus goes for the bicycle kick and hits it full on…. Down come the rookies, who chase off Sheamus, throws Cena over the announce table (as Jerry and Cole are long gone), and turns the table over on him.

Winner: No Contest

Match Rating: B+

Vince McMahon asks the rookies to chillax, and brings them into the ring. McMahon starts praising the NXT Rookies. McMahon says he’s behind the NXT Rookies and what they have been doing.  The rookies are now staring down Vince… but then start laughing. But Vince messes up… and the rookies surround him. Vince starts pleading, but the 7 men beat him down (with more Daniel Bryan chants from the crowd). They start hitting him with clotheslines, as Barrett hits his finisher on Vince, leaving him motionless in the ring, followed by Gabriel’s 450 splash. Shades of what happened the first week they attacked, without the ring destruction.

RAW Rating: B

The last two segments saved this show. The last couple of weeks, I’ve ran out of room almost before I get to the main event. This week, there were so many promos and short matches, It was easy to keep the word count low. However, this is the night after a pay-per-view, and usually those are slow. However, with two-brand pay-per-views, setting up the main event is important, and that’s what happened here tonight, setting up Barrett vs. Sheamus for MITB.

Predictions for MITB;

A “Money in the Bank” match

Sheamus vs. Barrett

Swagger vs Mysterio; Ladder match

Hart Dynasty vs The Usos Tag titles.

Edge vs Orton; TLC

I hope there’s more, but this is what I’m expecting off the top.

I agree. Lethal Injection is some of the best wrestling writing that I see around these days, and single-handedly saves the normally questionable writing round these parts. And there is a degree of coherency in Raw programming, for the first time in years...

    Hey dude,

Nice report overall and the ratings I pretty much agree. I did see a spell/grammar error every now and then, which makes this report look a little bit "written in a hurry". But no offense for that though, the report in overall is a high 8/10 :-)
