Righteous Rankings: Finishers Part 1

Welcome back to the Righteous Rankings! When you think about wrestling and the matches, you realize that every match ends in a similar way. That way is with one man hitting his finisher and becoming the winner majority of the time. Yes some people do kick out but this list is made for the finsishers that nobody kicks out of. The submission moves that have no escape route. This is the top ten greatest wrestling finishers of all time!

There is a few flows of main stream finishers but here im going to recognize those and some finishers that define greatest. Not just the fancy ones but the ones that do the most damage and make there statement with little work needed. A wrestler is nothing without a finisher because the its in the name. When a true finisher hits... the match is just about finished.

Ranking: #10

Finisher: Sweet Chin Music

To kick off the list we have no other than the heart break kid Shawn Michaels. His finisher is very basic but even more effective. As soon as Shawn Michaels backs up and starts tuning it up, it means the end is near. He takes a few stutter steps as his opponent regains composure and then meets them with a kick to the face. Every sweet chin music is unique as your hear the pop of his foot meeting the face of the opponent. They instantly drop and unless your the Undertaker... you dont get up.

Finisher Moment: The storybook career of Shawn Michaels has come to an end but he definitely has left behind some big moments, matches, and legacies. If I had to pick just one sweet chin music as the defining one then I would have to go with his connection to Ric Flair at Wrestlemania XXIV. The superkick around the world connected after Michaels said he was sorry. The legendary career of Flair was ended just like that... at least in the WWE.

Ranking: #9

Finisher: Rock Bottom

Rock Bottom was an unique finisher of itself no doubt. It had all the motions of a leg sweep except with the use of the lifting side arm. The Rock was able to end many matches with this move and even had a PPV named after his finisher once. Rock Bottom might seem like just a finisher but its what also propelled him to winning multiple world championships and definite future Hall of Fame honors.

Finisher Moment: The single handed biggest Rock Bottom ever hit was on Stone Cold Steve Austin at Wrestlemania XIX. They had a war at Wrestlemania 17 but two years later and it was time for The Rock to seek redemption. He tried to seek and that he did as he hit Rock Bottom on SCSA to end the match in possibly the biggest win of his career.

Finisher: Sharpshooter

No your eyes do not deceive you. You are actually reading about a submission finisher that was good enough to break the list. The reason being that Bret Hart used this finisher to break and end many great opponents. The Sharpshooter is what got him to where he is to this day. The Hitman starts by standing over his downed opponent and grabbing his legs. This then becomes the breaking point in the match. It all depends on if the opponent can fight out or if Bret Hart is going to successfully roll him over and apply all the pressure to his lower back. If Bret Hart does roll it over then the match is over.

Finisher Moment: Bret Hart has been in so many great matches that many may argue this but I think the greatest Sharpshooter was against Vince McMahon at Wrestlemania 26. The hype to this match was built up so well and even dated back to the montreal screwjob. But the closing point of this and the finally reached moment of his career was tapping out McMahon at Wrestlemania 26 after returning.

Finisher: Canadian Destroyer

If you asked 100 people to name there top ten finishers... and 99 wouldnt include this. The other one would respect this finisher for what it is and include it. Well that one guy just happens to be me. Petey Williams has always been one of my favorites and his finisher was the finishing touch. He kicks his opponents in the stomach and sets up as if he was about to power bomb. But instead of picking them up, he flips forward and drive them on there head. If you havent seen it then you should search it because its hard to explain. Yet everytime you see it, the finisher only gets better.

Finisher Moment: The best Canadian Destroyer is just a matter of my opinion. So that means that its the one that got me the most fired up. Just a few years ago when Petey Williams was TNA he won a feast or fired case that allowed him to receive an X Division Championship title shot. So he came out on Impact and blind sided Jay Lethal with his case. He then cashed in and followed it up by the greatest Canadian Destoyer in my opinion. He was able to become champion!

Ranking: #6

Finisher: Pedigree

I learned that a pedigree is actually a chart that predicts traits for an organisms offspring. But ive also learned that Pedigree is a finisher used by Triple H that can be described as unbearable. I mean how many guys have you seen kick out of Pedigree? From what ive seen, not many have ever done it if any have. Triple H simply sets them up in a position as if to powerbomb but instead he hooks there arms up, lifts them, and slams them face first into the mat. Definitely a brutal finisher to be hit with and an exciting one to watch none the less. The intensity in the arena once someone is hit with a Pedigree is always electric and with good reason. It may have just missed the top 5 mark but it came really close.

Finisher Moment: Mankind was able to claim Stone Colds WWF Championship in a triple threat match with Triple but the following night it all changed. Mankind took on Triple H on RAW and Triple H was able to fight through a tough match and hit a Pedigree. The Pedigree was made so big because it was followed by the pin that had Triple H winning his first ever word championship. He has won many since but nothing can compare to the first.
