Royal Rumble Math
Cena, Triple H, Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, Batista, Rey Mysterio, CM Punk, Mark Henry, MVP, Cody Rhodes, Big Show, David Hart Smith, Tyson Kidd, Ted DiBiase, John Morrison, Kofi Kingston, Drew McIntyre, The Miz, Sheamus
The twenty-three men listed above are used on the Royal Rumble page. These seven will be used to make this math look right.
Matt Hardy, Dolph Ziggler, Kane, R-Truth, Jack Swagger, Evan Bourne, Zack Ryder.
I'm fully prepared for you to tell me that there isn't thirty people there. Go eat your garlic bread and drink your Vanilla Coke if you want to complain.
My Royal Rumble Math uses a very select set of random rules of mine to break down the pool of people and use a science (it's sort of a science) to determine a winner.
You will see a list of rules that will help me eliminate superstars from these two lists. The lists come out to a total of thirty superstars, so consider this like these thirty people were all in the Royal Rumble.
Rule #1: If you're in a match at the Royal Rumble, you will not win the Royal Rumble.
There is a list of speculated Royal Rumble matches on the TWG news section, so they will be used to assist my math. According to this rule, these superstars from my lists are out:
Sheamus, John Cena, Undertaker, Batista, Rey Mysterio
30 - 5 = 25.
Rule #1: Section A: If you could be in a match at the Royal Rumble, you will not win the Rumble.
This rule applies to the list of people who could possibly win the ECW Homecoming Match to fight Christian at the Royal Rumble. That means that these people are eliminated: (Special thanks to TWG's Sommerlund for the list that I used to help come up with this section)
CM Punk, Evan Bourne, Matt Hardy
25 - 3 = 22.
Rule #1: Section B: If there's a match that we've been told is going to happen, but we don't have a set date for, I assume it's going to happen at the Rumble, so you will not win the Rumble.
This rule applies to the Miz and MVP, as MVP, as of last Monday Night RAW (the one with Bret Hart as guest host) is the new #1 contender to fight The Miz. This makes me think that a United States Championship Match will take place at the Royal Rumble.
22 - 2 = 20
By the way, I have MVP winning the United States Championship at the Rumble, but I have the Miz winning Money in the Bank.
Rule #2: If you fought on Smackdown's team at Bragging Rights, you will not win the Royal Rumble, but that's only if you weren't a co-captain of the team.
If one thing bothered me about Bragging Rights, it's that they changed who was in the match so close to the time that the match actually happened. Plus, I thought the original team would have worked out better. The original team was Ziggler, Cryme Tyme, Eric Escobar, and Drew McIntyre. The superstars that follow were not only on the team that actually fought Team RAW at Bragging Rights, but are now out of my Royal Rumble.
David Hart Smith, Tyson Kidd, and R-Truth
Kane and Jericho were co-captains of the team. Matt Hardy was also on the team, but he was eliminated earlier. Finlay was on the team as well, but I didn't put him on one of my lists of superstars at the top.
20 - 3 = 17.
Rule #3: If you do pushups in your entrance, you will not win the Royal Rumble.
Sorry Jack.
17 - 1 = 16.
Rule #4: If you have a Royal Rumble record, or are tied for a Royal Rumble record, you will not win the Royal Rumble.
This rule applies to two superstars: Kane and Shawn Michaels. Kane has the most superstars ever eliminated in one match (11 in 2001), while Shawn Michaels is tied for most back-to-back Royal Rumble wins (2, 1995 and 1996, tied with Hulk Hogan and Stone Cold).
16 - 2 = 14.
Rey Mysterio, who was also in the Royal Rumble Math lists, has three records. Shortest wrestler to win, the only masked wrestler to win, and longest time in the Rumble (1:02:12). Kane also has the record for most consecutive Royal Rumble appearances (11, appearing since in Rumbles since 1999)
Rule #5: If you have already won the Royal Rumble, you will not win it again.
This rule aggravates people, and they have good reason to be angry, but I'm sticking with it.
Randy Orton (2009) and Triple H (2002) are out because of this rule.
14 - 2 = 12.
This also would apply to Rey Mysterio (2006), John Cena (2008), Undertaker (2007), Batista (2005), and Shawn Michaels (1996 and 1995).
Rule #6: If you have been a singles champion within my recent memory, you will not win the Rumble.
This applies to more people than you think it applies to.
John Morrison, Drew McIntyre, Kofi Kingston
This rule would also apply to a load of superstars in this list. Trust me on this one.
12 - 3 = 9.
Nine guys left, everyone. Take your breather now.
Chris Jericho, Mark Henry, Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase, Big Show, Dolph Ziggler, Zack Ryder
Wait a minute...only seven? *facepalm*
Let's move on and act like I meant there was seven.
This is where the proverbial "rules" go out the wind - wait, we have a few more, actually.
Rule #7: If you are a "big man", you will not win the Royal Rumble.
We all know what happens to big men. Six or seven guys team up on him, or he makes a dumb mistake and eliminates himself.
This rule applies to Big Show and Mark Henry.
7 - 2 = 5.
Rule #8: ECW never wins the Rumble.
They never have, and they never will. Bye, Zack Ryder.
5 - 1 = 4.
The Final Four
Chris Jericho, Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase, and Dolph Ziggler have all made my Final Four. When you look at who I have had, it makes me scratch my head too. Oh well. Why could each of these four men walk out the winner of the Royal Rumble?
Dolph Ziggler is probably the name out of these four that is making you scratch your head the most. But then again, I'm still scratching my head at why Sheamus is our WWE Champion. During his entire reign, Sheamus will always be called "too green". So why is Ziggler here? He represents the element of surprise, something that the Rumble has, over the last few years, had in its match. If you try to tell me you expected John Cena making his return, or the legends cameo in the Rumble, or Drew Carey, or Rob Van Dam's one nighter, you're a liar. So Ziggler represents the element of surprise. Plus, I think he deserves to be rewarded for not dressing in the full "notebook" jacket anymore. That thing looked ugly.
Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase are better known as Legacy to pretty much all of us. I think, though, in the Royal Rumble, one of these two men will eliminate the other. The question is, "Who?"
I know right now you have the answer to this question in your heads, and I'm going to tell you that you're right. Ted DiBiase should be the "Michaels" of this situation and thrown Cody Rhodes over the top. Why? It's not just to promote their crappy new movie, "Marine 2", which, to be honest, I'm still not sure why it's named that. It's numbering like a sequel, but none of the main stars from the last movie are in it.
When you look at the comparison, the numbers point to Cody Rhodes. More tag championships? Cody Rhodes. More victories via. finisher? Cody Rhodes. More chest hair? Cody Rhodes.
While neither of them are solid in the mic skills department, I'm not sure there's much more they could learn from Orton. I think DiBiase could be a singles star, and after eliminating Rhodes, he could target Randy Orton.
Chris Jericho is the last man out of these four. He's the only "maineventer" left. Recently, he's been trying to get back onto RAW, and that's only one of the reasons why he should win the Rumble. Then he could say that's how he planned to get onto RAW the entire time.
He's got charisma, a rival waiting to return, (more about that rival later) and he's one of the best wrestlers I've seen. Let's not forget that last year they gave him crapfest on a stick as a Wrestlemania Match. Before you say Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat, I say, "Mickey Rourke".
So out of these four, who do I choose?
Special Note
Okay, before you yell at me that the counting is off, let's be honest.
There are people that aren't in this article that will probably be appearing in the Rumble. Cryme Tyme has no mention in this at all, and neither does the majority of ECW. It's going to be different.
But also, there has been the element of surprise that I talked about earlier. There have been talks of Booker T coming back to WWE (please, if he comes back as King Booker, I'm not sure I'll be able to bear watching) and Edge coming back at the Rumble. This makes me think that those two will take up any spots that I missed.
Also, whoever TNA didn't sign that is still a noticeable free agent might make a return. The question is, "Who?" After all, TNA signed like, twelve guys. I apologize for not writing this article about the Monday Night War, but my opinion is too biased against TNA to write any bit fairly.
The Winner, According To Royal Rumble Math:
This one was pretty easy when I got here.
Chris Jericho
Did you seriously think that it was going to be the other three? You did? Then consider me to be a good liar.
Do you really want to see Jericho trying to get back into RAW for another few months? Neither do I. Plus, if Edge is, "to return", as everyone seems to say he will, he can return in an Elimination Chamber and win the World Heavyweight Championship.
But if there's one superstar who I will pick that defies my math, it's:
Rey Mysterio.
Nearly every one of my rules have applied to him. Rules #6, 5, 4, and 1 all applies to him.
Thank you for reading the Royal Rumble Math. If you liked this article, comment. If you hated this article, comment. If you want to argue with me, comment. If you want to make your own pick based on your own math, comment.

I have a feeling it may be HBK
You know how Vince told him that HE has to make the match vs Taker at WM?
HBK will challenge Taker, even if Taker isn't champ, which would add another element of surprise

Yep, thats whom I had figured out would win as well, Jericho, and for the same reason = a way to get back into RAW. Just follow the storylines.....

I was thinking that you should have had more rules that were obvious. Like something as simple as "If you never won any singles gold or are currently holding the show's top belt, you will not win the Rumble" or "If your name hasn't been mentioned at least five times during an event that you're not even at, you will not win the Rumble." That brings it down to like 4 right there. Basically it comes down to Jericho, Kofi Kingston, The Miz, and Crazy Mariachi Punk. I highly doubt this will be the real final four, but I can guarantee you that most likely you will see Jericho or CM Punk in there. I'm almost certain that The Miz will have a great show.

On the topic: Great article, TPP. Your math makes sense. A lot. This has given me some good expectations of the Rumble's results, but meh, I hope DiBiase would win, although I wouldn't mind Jericho winning either.
Once again, great article.

There is no duobt that in Wrestlemania will be Chris Jericho vs. Edge . So there doesnt matter who win royal rumble : Edge or Jericho. If Jericho wins, Edge wins Elimination chamber, If Edge wins, Jericho will win title.

Isn't there a problem with Rule #1? As in... at least most of those 7/8 won't be in the Rumble match so they shouldn't figure in the maths? Of course, the people used to replace them would be much lower in the card so wouldn't figure, so I'm just being pedantic...

Hey, TPP, awesome article. Love the math you did here.
You also forgot Rule #64: If you were in WCW between when the federation was awesome, and when the federation sucked, and you were featured at least somewhat prominently, you're in contention for the Rumble.
With the current roster, this only applies to Jericho. Thus, Jericho wins.
And ha, Dolph Ziggler winning the Rumble?! Kung Fu Naki (who after all this time, apparently still has a job, to which your tag team partner asks "HOW?!") is more likely to get an actual push than Mr. Ziggles winning the Rumble.

It'd be better to get clarification before making these predictions, since John Cena doesn't have another mach at the Rumble. Given he would be knocked out with the past winner rule. I'm going out on a limb and calling John Morrison, and I have been calling it for months. He's gotten completely buried on PPV since Bragging Rights, giving the impression that he can't compete under pressure. They dropped the IC belt off him because a)McIntyre is deep-throating HHH, and b) because he needed to go from upper-mid-card to main-event. He's the perfect dark horse, and seeing as he has a DVD coming out next month, it's the perfect time for a push. Most people don't get DVDs until they've won a World Championship or multiples, so why is John Morrison getting one? Because he's finally moving into the main event.

By the way I did my own diffrent math form and my final 10 in no order are Kofi Kingston,Jerricho(Winner),CM Punk,Rhodes,Debiasse,HHH,HBK,Big Show,Cena, and Morrison. Notice how I don't mention Edge...... I think it ends up with Jerricho eliminating the Big Show as just something for them to use as a future space filler. I also belive that on this night Maryse will be the Divas Champ,Shamus will retain, and Undertaker wins a Triple Threat

I do think that Chris Jericho will win the Royal Rumble. It seems to make the most sense. I think that Edge will win the WWE Championship and then Jericho vs. Edge at Wrestlemania and Jericho will be back on Raw, but it was said that Edge won't make Wrestlemania. Maybe it will be Taker vs. Jericho at Wrestlemania instead of another HBK vs. Taker. Or it possibly will be Jericho vs. Triple H. But when I think about it, maybe Shawn Michaels will win to go against Undertaker or Ted DiBiase will win to face Randy Orton.

The only problem you have, is the final four. All four are heels. This would very rarely, if not then never happen. There could be a final four of all faces, or a mixed amount of faces and heels. This is because it's one of WWE's major events, and you NEVER have a final part of a big event without a face. And another point, the final four are not big enough to be there, all except for Jericho, and possible one of the legacy. At least one of Triple H, John Cena, Shawn Michaels, would be in the final four, well nine times out of ten.

I also think that Chris Jericho won't win the rumble because of two reasons.
1) If Edge does return WWE are giving me the impression that they want this to be a decent, memorable feud, and not a title match at wrestlemaina.
2) If Edge does not return then it almost seems like WWE is tempting a feud with Big Show, in which case I can't see Big Show vs Chris Jericho as the WWE/World Title match at Wrestlemaina...
However when you say that it is him who will win, I can understand why, he has the storyline (and back up ones for that matter), wants to get back on RAW, and recently lost his titles.
Also to the guy who said that he'd like to say Kane winning it but can't see it, and to the guy who said follow the storylines, well Kane has decided to protect 'Taker because he's his brother (Do not know if he's acctually said this on mic but i've got that impression, feel free to correct me.), then he could win the rumble and turn on the deadman.
I'd also like to go out on a limb and predict Morrison winning either Money in the Bank at wrestlemania, or win royal rumble 2011, possibly both!

Could go any of these routes, and I'd rather someone new win it myself. Despite this, I wouldn't be surprised if Cena won the rumble. They can't seem to get away from it, so I think their eventually going to set up Cena/Orten for Wrestlemania. Shaemus will win at the rumbles, but Orten will get it sometime after. I also think at Wrestlemania the money in the bank winner will use the case that night.
