Beefcake Jack Spotlight Match of the Week

Welcome to the Beefcake Jack Spotlight Match of the week for the week on February 11 through the 17th.  This week has some very interesting match-ups taking place, but if you’ve been paying any attention to my articles, you will know that Beefcake Jack prefers carnage and mayhem above all else so I will be focusing on the Elimination Chamber matches on the No Way Out PPV. This year there are two Elimination Chamber matches instead of one like there normally is.

Since the inception of this match in 2002, it has been used to determine a heavyweight champion.  This year makes the first time that an Elimination Chamber match has been held that there is not a title on the line.  The
Elimination Chamber differs from a normal match as the ring is surrounded by a steel structure of chain and girders, but instead of a standard steel cage, the Elimination Chamber is circular, allowing for four inner chambers to be placed on the apron behind the four ring posts, with platforms keeping the wrestlers from the floor. The metal is black and the chambers are made of "bulletproof" glass The chamber is 36 feet in diameter and is composed of 10 tons of steel and 2 miles of chain. The match is contested by six wrestlers, two beginning the match in the ring and the other four in the glass chambers. After a predetermined amount of time a chamber opens at random and a wrestler is added to the two already competing, and this continues until all men are released. Wrestlers are eliminated by pinfall or submission within the ring ropes, often leading to some being eliminated before every wrestler is released into the match. The winner is the final man left after all others have been eliminated. This has all the makings for a gruesome and violent match.

Since there are only 5 other matches to draw from, it is hard to pick any one match that stands out from the rest.  The original match where Shawn Michaels defeated Kane, Booker T, RVD, Kane and HHH to win the World Heavywieght Championship was a very good match.

    With two
Elimination Chamber matches to choose from, it would be a shame to leave one out, so we will discuss both.  It is hard to predict a winner for a match like this because the order or entrance is randomized.  Through the limited history of the match, order of entrance does not seem to be a big issue as contestants have won in the 2, 3, 5, and 6 spots.

The Smack Down/ECW Elimination Chamber consists of Smack Down’s Undertaker, The Great Khali, Batista, United States Champion MVP and ECW’s Big Daddy V.  I think this match has the potential to be the most violent due to the presence of The Undertaker and other heavy hitters combined with the lack of technical wrestlers, except for MVP.  The Undertaker has a exceptionally disturbing history of destruction in specialty matches, so that puts him as the favorite to win this match.  The X factor in this match is the placement of The Great Khali.  Depending on the time limit; if Khali starts the match, he could roll through the Chamber participants with relative ease.  If Khali starts late with multiple wrestlers in the ring, it’s less likely that he will succeed.  Due to a Wrestlemania title shot being at stake and The Undertaker’s reputation, it would be a minor surprise to see anyone but the Undertaker win.

The Raw Elimination Chamber match is a little more difficult to dissect as this match pits Umaga, JBL, Jeff Hardy, Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho, and HHH versus each other.  This match is filled with wrestlers who know how to obtain wrestling championships.  There are a combined 19 Heavyweight and 20 Intercontinental championships in WWE competition between the six combatants.  It’s likely that the brutality will not reach the scale on the Smack Down/ECW match due to the technical prowess of all the wrestlers involved except Umaga.  As it has been determined that order of entry is generally not a factor in this match, the X factor of this match will be when Umaga enters the ring as he will probably be ganged up on.  Besides Umaga’s unpredictability, it will be key to watch and see if HHH figures out a way to get his sledgehammer involved in the match.  My prediction is, somehow, the sledgehammer makes an apperance in the Chamber and HHH goes on to Wrestlemania to attempt to win his 12th heavyweight championship.

Beefcake Jack’s verdict:

Smack Down/ECW Elimination Chamber:  Undertaker via Tombstone

Raw Elimination Chamber: HHH via sledgehammer.

Beefcake Jack Star Rating:

Smack Down/ECW Elimination Chamber: 3 ½ out of 5

Raw Elimination Chamber: 4 out of 5

i love the elimination chamber..but does anyone else think the stroke of sheer genuis in this madness is really the fact that Vinnie Mac HATES almost everything WCW and couldn't stand the though of NWA/WCWs war games-the match beyond showcase on a WWF ppv?? think about it...two men start one man enters every two minutes (or so) until one man is either pinned or submits...the chamber has a few differences but basically the same groundwork..the war games cage was the biggest meaniest deadliest cage of it's time too.just my two cents.
