Wrestlemania Replay?

Welcome ladies and gentleman to the second ECW report by the Blazing one. Coming off the heels of Wrestlemania this weeks ECW was looking to give me a little more to write about then last weeks. For the record I only missed 2 matches in my Wrestlemania predictions, so HA. Well moving on to this weeks ECW. By the way, If you have a problem with my articles there isn’t one person forcing you to read them. Keep that in mind!

Segment 1

Well the first segment showed Theodore Long coming down to the ring to his AWESOME as hell theme music. Seriously for being just an on air GM for the bigger part of his career lately… He has some of the best theme music. Well he starts out by talking slightly about Wrestlemania and if the people enjoyed themselves and all that good filler crap. At the mere mention of Vickie Guerrero’s name in his promo the whole place erupts in boos when he mentions how she is now the GM of Raw. Well apparently Teddy Long has been appointed the GM of Smackdown again! Which is good for business in my opinion because he did a hell of a good job there before. Teddy proceeds to start to introduce us to the newest ECW GM.. Would it be an ECW original like Tommy Dreamer or even maybe Paul Heyman? Would it be someone that would be charismatic and a great heel like William Regal?? Would it be a shocking twist that none of us seen coming? Nope.. It was his assistant Tiffany… Now if you are reading this because you turned the TV off there.. Johnny doesn’t blame you one bit.

She comes out to the ring to a very mixed and not so enthusiastic reaction from the crowd. She gets in the ring and proceeds to say 4 words before Sylvester the cat comes out onto the stage while his Rage Against The Machine rip off theme music plays/ Sylvester walks down with his ECW championship that has been on existent for the last couple weeks if anyone has noticed it. Sylvester then tries to bully Tiffany into giving him special treatment, I will say he didn’t have a heavy lisp for once in this promo.

Tiffany proceeds to tell him that what he needs to be worried about is who he will defend the title against at Backlash the upcoming PPV. She says there will be a “Elimination Race” to Backlash between Mark Henry, Finlay, Tommy Dreamer, and Christian… Otherwise known as the same 4 contenders for the last 6 months or so… And that these competitors will be fighting in a fatal four way match tonight to start the race off. Now I wasn’t sure what this meant because it seems like there would be more than just one match with these people in it. Swagg.. Err.. Sylvester looked upset but manages to flash a quick boyish grin at the camera before the promo ends and the new GM goes to the back with Teddy.

After the first segment we get a Wrestlemania recap promo which is slightly different then the one aired on Raw last night. The one aired on raw was all still photos when they were recapping it and tonight they happened to be moving but not full speed. Just seemed to go from one frame to the next quite slowly. Then when we come back from commercials we get a 12 Rounds promo video. The WWE is trying to get people to see this movie so bad I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t let it be for another couple weeks at least. I personally have seen 12 rounds and thought it was an excellent movie.

Match 1: Miz, Morrison, and TJ Wilson(Tyson Kidd) v The Colons and Evan Bourne

If you have watched the whole saga with The Colons and Miz and Morrison over the weeks then you have definitely seen this match before. With that said it was a decent opening match and they gave it enough time to be a damn good one. The same double team moves from The Colons week after week are getting a little old though, They are good… But seeing them every single week on 2 different shows is getting to be a tad bit boring. The whole match was an excellent little battle though. I got to see the hottest diva in the WWE in Natalya down at ringside the whole time so that made me happy. There were some good spots from both tag teams and to me it seemed like Tyson Kidd was either limited in what he did in the match or was holding back. Which is a shame because TJ Wilson is a very solid talent and I would love to see him shine.

Commercial Break

We come back from commercial and of course the heel team has taken control as we see John Morrison working down Evan Bourne. The two go through the dance of Morrison pummeling him and Bourne taking it like a champ until he sees an opening and they both get knocked down. They struggle to get to the corners and Bourne tags in Primo who might be the most boring high flyer I have ever seen.. Someone get him the hell off my TV… But they go through the finishing sequence and Primo ends up hitting a backstabber on Tyson Kidd. Primo then tags in Evan Bourne who lands his beautiful Shooting Star Press that makes Billy Kidman blush and they pick the win up!

Winners: The Colons and Evan Bourne
Match Rating: 3.5/5

Not a bad opener and contest, But it is something we have seen too much lately with The Colons and Miz and Morrison.

We get another Wrestlemania promo this time hyping the Hall of Fame ceremony which I found to be quite entertaining and if you have a chance check out Bill Watts speech cause it was GOLD. As well as seeing Stone Cold close the door on his pro wrestling career and shoot down one more match chants was an eerie thing to witness. Also him passing the torch to John Cena, The best professional wrestler in the world, Was a momentous moment. We come back and Matt Stryker is on his A game tonight and is just abusing Josh Matthews left and right… Awesome.. Then we get ANOTHER Wrestlemania promo from before… Which I expected to see a lot of but damn..

If you didn’t see Wrestlemania I urge you to at least look up the match between HBK and The Undertaker because that was the best match I have seen in a long time. One of the best matches I have ever seen in nearly 30 years of watching wrestling. It was absolute heaven and when someone asks how a wrestling match should look or be, That would be my prime example right now. The elimination stipulation is revealed before another commercial break and the LOSER in the match tonight will be out of the running of being the number one contender.

Commercial break.. REMEMBER THE DRAFT NEXT MONDAY NIGHT BEGINNING ONE HOUR EARLIER… Always love the draft episodes..

Main Event: Mark Henry v Christian v Finlay v Tommy Dreamer(Loser is out of title shot)

Christian gets the last entrance and he got a pretty damn good pop from the crowd. Which proves that Captain Charisma is still popular. Several signs litter the crowd for Christian and he is arguably the fan favorite and top choice to become the new champ soon! Christian is sporting a nice shiner from MITB which needed stitches and it looks rough as hell. The match starts with everyone teaming up on Henry to try and get him out of the match early I guess. He fights them all off with no problems and cleans house in the ring and we get a whole 3 mins of wrestling and ANOTHER COMMERCIAL BREAK!

Its bad when I see more commercials then wrestling.. Im hoping next week it returns to normal.. We get our first commercial hyping the new show Superstars debuting on April 16th and running on WGN!

The commercial break ends and we come back to the action and there is bodies scattered all over the place as Finlay and Dreamer battle their way back into the ring and take the spotlight. Finlay controls a good chunk of the match on both Christian and Tommy Dreamer. Mark Henry spent most of the time out of the ring as he normally does in matches with more than one other person in it. Tommy Dreamer spends a moment in the limelight when he hooks Finaly up for the tree of woe and yells to the crowd who seems slightly tired or just quiet tonight but he gets a decent reaction. Finlay hangs in the tree of woe for a good bit until Horny gets him out of it and hands him his trademark Shillelagh. Christian and Tommy Dreamer battle to the side and Matt Stryker calls Josh Matthews Captain Obvious after mentioning Captain Charisma. Finlay hits Mark Henry with it and it knocks him out cold. Finlay pins Mark Henry and picks up the win and THANK GOD Mark Henry is the first person eliminated.

Winner: Finlay via Shillelagh Hit

A solid match but wasn’t very long at all and lacked action…

It doesn’t help that they named someone who people could really care less about as the GM in the opening moments but to have a very uneventful night for the second week in a row. The fact that there was only 2 matches does make the show look poor because of the lack of wrestling they put on. The first match was definitely the better match and set a pace for the show that it couldn’t keep. Once again it was a wrap-up for other shows and Wrestlemania. Heres hoping next weeks is back to normal and I have a decent show to rate.
