Wrestlemania 25 Wrapup!

The 25th anniversary of Wrestlemania was one of the better Wrestlemanias we have had in the last few years. I can honeslty say I came away after I seen it with a smile on my face and feeling like I got my moneys worth. Lets go through the wrestle mania match by match.. The sad part was Miz and Morrison v The Colons for the Unified Tag Title was not on the main show. Not only was it not on the main show but it was not streamed live on wwe’s website before the PPV. The Colons defeated the best tag team in wrestling to become the unified tag champs in a match you can only see on the Wrestlemania DVD.

Match 1: Money In The Bank Ladder Match featuring: Christian, Finlay, Mark Henry, Kane, CM Punk, Shelton Benjamin and MVP

This was a great opener and was a fairly decent match. CM Punk walked underneath every ladder on his entrance, Would he be unlucky? The match started out like a brawl as one would expect with various people brawling it out with one another. Some of the most memorable spots in this match were the amazing Shelton Benjamin diving senton from the 20 foot ladder in the entrance aisle. Before this though we seen a suicide dive fron Finlay and double suicide dives from Kofi Kingston and CM Punk to the outside on the big group.  One of the funnier spots was when Hornswoggle got under the ring and brought out a stepladder which looked exactly like the real ladders. Mark Henry was on top of the turnbuckle after Finlay knocked him down onto it and Horny proceeded to do a tadpole splash off of Henrys back using the stepladder onto the group on the outside. After the outside the ring chaos settled down we seen quite a few good spots on the inside. Shelton Benjamin ladder walking from one ladder to another set up ladder which was horizontal on the ropes and propped into the other ladder creating a platform. From the platform he hopped on the other ladder and saved the match from ending by CM Punk. CM Punk got the upper hand when Christian came in to make the save. They were battling on the platform ladder and Punk went for a Go To Sleep and Christian reversed and did a botched Impaler off the platform onto the mat. Looked bad but stuff happens. Kofi’s two big spots were when he was being teamed up on with a ladder he hopped over the ladder as they charged him with it and delivered a dropkick and the BO BO BO combination using the ladder as a weapon. He also then climbed a ladder while it was standing straight and NOT unfolded to climb up while Mark Henry held it. Kofi got within graps and mark whipped the ladder out and caught him then proceeded to give the Worlds Strongest Slam through the ladder. The end sequence of the match seen CM Punk get his foot hooked in the ladder and falling back so he couldn’t reach. Kane took the upper hand and almost had it until Punk regained his composure and delivered several kicks to the chest and head of Kane until he finally pushed him off with his foot and grabbed the briefcase.

Winner: CM Punk for the 2nd year in a row!
Match Rating: 7/10. Not the best MITB but it delivered and was a good opener.

Match 2: Divas Battle Royal

The amount of divas is too many to name but the returning women were Victoria, Molly Holly, Sunny, and Jackie Gayda. NO TRISH STRATUS… Sadly.. Now moving on.. Before this match we go the medley from Kid Rock which wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. For the record Layla was the first diva eliminated while Lilian was announcing. The match was what is to be expected from a Diva’s battle royal. Beth Phoenix seemed to dominate and Santino who was wearing a bad wig and dress just walked around aimlessly not throwing a punch or anything. It came down to Beth Phoenix and Melina at the end with Santino still in there. While Beth and Melina were battling by the ropes Santino came over and eliminated them both to become the first Ms. Wrestlemania. In the post match interview he said he was Santina the twin of Santino. All around disappointing match but atleast Santino made me chuckle..

Winner: Santino.. Err.. Santina Marella
Match Rating: 3/10. Were you expecting a masterpiece?

Match 3: Roddy Piper, Ricky Steamboat, and Snuka w/Ric Flair v Chris Jericho

Well to begin with Mickey Rourke was in the audience and they made sure it was known on the program. The legends looked out of shape besides Steamboat of course. Roddy Piper looked drunk and started off the match and backed up what I just said by the way he was performing. The only memorable spot from Piper was doing a flying cross body on Jericho that took them both over the rope but Piper tried to hang on and really did a poor job. He tagged in Snuka then who went to work on Jericho for a little then Steamboat came in and worked on him as well. Steamboat did an amazing job flying off the top rope. Snuka comes back in and Jericho quickly dispenses of him with the walls of Jericho. He then pushes steamboat to the ground and begins his assault on Piper. Jericho hit’s the running enzuguri on Piper and picks up the pinfall. As he is getting back up Steamboat awaits from the top rope and delivers a flying cross body and gets the near fall. The next few minutes showed why Steamboat should still be wrestling as he hung with Jericho wonderfully. Until Jericho hit’s the code breaker and picks up the win over the legends. He then proceeds to code breaker flair and get on the mic and trash talk Mickey Rourke until Mick gets in the ring with Jericho. They exchange some sparring punches with one another and Mickey lands a left hook that “knocks Jericho out” to a good pop and him and flair celebrate as Jericho scampers to the back.

Winner: Chris Jericho, but gets knocked out by Mickey Rourke(who didn’t see this coming??)
Match Rating: 5/10 purely for Steamboat..

Match 4: Hardy v Hardy

It was a decent match that I believe needed the hardcore element into it to succeed. Jeff did a few Poetry In Motions off steps and chairs. As well as he did the running clothesline off of the apron he is famous for it seems. Matt delivered a nice Side Effect on a chair and also had the best spot of the match, but we will get to that. Jeff had two epic spots, as you would imagine. One was through two tables that were stacked and had Matt placed on the bottom one with a chair on it. It was a great spot and looked like it legit hurt. The other was Matt laying on the floor in the ring and Jeff set up his Leapfrog leg drop ladder thing, he went to hit it and came crashing down hard. Matt then proceeds to wrap a chair around the throat of Jeff and do the sickest Twist Of Fate I have ever seen which basically decapitated Jeff. Matt pins and picks up the victory in a better match then I expected atleast.

Winner: Matt, Who’s new pants were AMAZING
Match Rating:7/10

Match 5: JBL v Rey Mysterio for the IC Title

Lets just say one thing.. Rey Mysterio won in 21 seconds of the official match starting.. This was a travesty to me because its becoming a trend for once a year that WM has a squash match.. I don’t believe that your biggest PPV of the year is a place for a squash contest. JBL beat the crap out of Rey, who was dressed as Joker from batman, and then he demanded the ref ring the bell and when the ref did Rey exploded with a little bit of offense. A 619 and that splash he does sealed the deal on JBL who proceeded to tell everyone he quit..

Winner: Rey Mysterio. New Champion.. Blah..
Match Rating: 0/10

Match 6: Undertaker v Shawn Michaels. Streak v Mr. Wrestlemania

The beginning of this match showed an amazing entrance from HBK as church type music played and he descended from the top of the arena on what seemed to be a cloud. It was a podium with smoke coming from it. He was dressed in all white and it looked like an awesome entrance. He got to the bottom and his regular music hit and then taker made his way to the ring and the match was on. People may hate my description of this match.. But I have no words for it. I have watched wrestling for the past 25+ years almost 30 and that match was one of the most fundamentally sound and beautifully done matches I have ever seen in my life. The last match that captured my attention and dragged me in like that my personal choice for best match of all time at WM 12. It reminded me so much of Steamboat v Macho and I have never seen Taker or HBK look that good before. I cant describe it because you have to witness it. If you missed Wrestlemania please look this match up because THIS IS WHAT WRESTLING IS. Kudos to taker and HBK for an amazing performance.. Damnit I hate Undertaker though…

Winner: The Undertaker off a beautiful sequence, one of many beautiful finisher sequences of the match
Match Rating: Perfection. 10/10

Match 7: Big Show v John Cena v Edge for the WHC

This was a solid little triple threat match which seen a good few spots. Big Show did the Andre the Giant thing where he got tied up in the ropes and watched Edge and Cena battle it out for a good bit. The best spot of the match in my opinion was the amazing strength showed by John Cena when he lifted Show and Edge on top of his shoulders and edge then slipped off and he gave the Attitude Adjustment to Big Show. Edge then tried to get the upper hand and Cena gave him the Attitude Adjustment to Edge on top of Big Show and he pins Show and the Best Wrestler in the World wins the WHC

Winner: John Cena
Match Rating: 7/10

Stone Cold then came out and celebrated in the ring and toasted to the fans and JR. I wanted to take this part to say thank you to him, not that hes gonna read this, but even though I didn’t like Stone Cold… He revoltionized this industry and made a hell of an impact on this business. I hope we havent seen the last of him like he said, but if we have… Give me a HELL YEAH if you thank Stone Cold…

Main Event: HHH v Randy Orton

By far the most disappointing besides the Rey Mysterio match in my opinion. I don’t have much to say on it besides I feel that they dropped the ball majorly. Most of the fans there seemed to agree with me and just felt like the intensity wasn’t there as much. One big flaw was starting the match out with both people hitting their finisher right away. HHH destroys Orton towards the end and wins.. Yay…

Winner: HHH.. Duh..
Match Rating: 2/10

Overall PPV Rating: 8/10 and this is mainly cause of Taker/HBK. Hope you enjoyed the Wrestlemania Wrapup. And Remember I have to keep it under 2000 words so SORRY!!

I agree completely with you on the taker and shawn match but I disagree about the main event. it was awesome!

Nice article, the only thing I disagree with are the M.I.T.B opinions, I hated the outcome, and the triple threat match. Other that that, good article, but hey, they are your opinions.

Excellent coverage, Though I feel the main event is sold short simply because it is the main event and the build was so awesome. The match was a little slow and had timing issues, but over all I'd give it a 6 personally. And there are very few matches that compare to Taker HBK tonight. People will be talking about it for years to come.

Winner: HHH.. Duh..
Match Rating: 2/10

The match was WAYYY better than a 2 star. It included almost both wrestlers move sets and the drama really built up to what i expected...id give it a 7 or 8/10

I agree with you on all matches, but hhh against orton would get 0/10 from me.

undertaker vs michaels was a perfekt wrestling match and steamboat was awesome too!

not the best wm, but a good one... as always!

Nailed it on the head, but I've gotta agree with Malice on the Main Event, that and after all the incredible coverage the announcement team had kept churning thoughout the entire show, they were getting sloppy close to closing time. They could've saved the match, but all in all it was still Wrestlemania caliber, if barely.

But the JBL retirement match was gold, man. It wasn't about the wrestling, it was about the story. JBL came down to the ring with a mic in hand saying that night he would make history. Saying that he was god's gift to the state of Texas, a state that haad degraded into a land of prissy hobos apparently, and the state that had about half a million citizens crammed into the arena he gave this speach in. Brilliant.

The match went well for storytelling purposes, and if they had to cut out the Tag Team Unified Title match you know there were time constraining issues. JBL's acting at the ending was flawless too, netting it a solid spot on the WM card.

Damn I hate Taker for that but I guess this was just another part of Wrestlemania's routine. I felt disappointed when I checked the results because there were no surprises. I mean we all knew about Mickey Rourke's punch, we all knew Triple H was about to win, we all knew John Cena was about to win. The only thing I didn't expect was cm punk winning for the 2nd year in a row. But I guess it was alright. I still feel disappointed though. I am a HBK fan :P

Oh golly, i hate John Cena so much, but his entrance was SO COOL! Just have to say it, Overall i reckon this PPV was about 8/10, I was stuck to my seat during the Undertaker-HBK match, and screamed at the TV anytime Undertaker got the upper hand, i was so disappointed he won, but i loved the Moonsault Tombstone reversal, i wanted to see Micky Rourke do the Ram Jam to Y2J while he was in the Figure 4, but that didn't happen, JBL looked like he was gonna cry, the fatty, ha ha

Nice coverage, I was dissapointed in the overall wrestlemania, deffo wasn't as good as last years...
CM Punk winning?? omg it should have been at least Christian... but CM Punk??
another thing that disapointed in is that in the triple threat match, why did it seem easy to knock john cena to the ground and make him stay there most of the match....

There is one word that pops in my mind when I think at WM25: Damn. I mean the overall show was good, but I didn't feel surprised at all. That's what Wrestlemania is all bout : big surprises. But the winners of the matches were pretty predictable. Except for Matt and CM Punk I guess. The main event was disappointing because both men fought and didn't want to wrestle. It was more of a brawl. And I'm not into that. I've watched many wrestling matches but this one made me think of another Wrestlemania match between Goldberg and Brock Lesnar. Too damn boring. And they seemed to be exhausted after only 10 minutes. I mean come on is that all the entertainment they can offer? Hell no. I watched both men wrestling in great matches. Why couldn't they make this one great? Why didn't The Legacy and The McMahons come ringside for a brawl? It could have been interesting.
One last note : Is it just me or Orton got no reaction at all during his entrance? I thought I suddenly went deaf but then I heard Lilian Garcia still talking. I mean come on at least they could boo him because he's the heel.
Anyways I think I'll watch the HBK-Taker match each time I watch a crappy/s*itty wrestling show. And you know why? Because that's what I call wrestling. That match made the whole ppv worth. I would have paid to watch on ppv just to see that match and go to bed. Because it would have made me go to bed with a wide smile on my face. Even if Shawn has lost, he did WAY better than Mark(Taker). After checking Wiki I noticed that they were born in the same year and they debuted in the same year. That's awesome. But I don't think there is someone else to do a moonsault like that at the age of 43.

And that's the bottom line
cause Stone Cold is gone forever x.x

What on earth hapend this year? WM sucked. the only gud matches were hardy v hardy and HBK v undertaker it should of hapend like this...
Miz and Morrison def Colons
SB wins MITB
JBL def Rey
Randy def HHH
Edge retains
Y2J def Legends and is allowed to show of.
And has anyone of the ECW championship. Jack Swagger defeating Evan Bourne would of been a gr8 match.

Had the pleasure of our local pub showing this. 66 people turned up, which is about 64 more than I expected. I wasn't entirely sober for the main event but I'm glad you had it as 2/10. Having seen No Mercy two years ago which was one of the best fights ever, factor in the buildup and the almost unlimited combinations of McMahons and Legacy twists and turns this was dull. I didn't even expect the ending when it came, I expected at least a few more minutes.

Taker/HBK was very good, but I'd "only" give it a 9 because they never sold me on any other outcome than the predicted one.

I thought the Divas thing was entertaining.

HBK/Taker was just freaking glorious. If you are a wrestling fan this is a MUST-WATCH even if you're a WWE hater.

Orton/H wasn't all THAT bad...it was poorly booked and all, but both guys still worked hard and didn't screw anything up...it was about as good as the Legends match.

absolutley agree with the taker-michaels bout, although we all knew that taker would win, WWE really tried to make us believe michaels was gonna take it, the main event wasnt too bad but could honestly see that outcome coming, the rest werent really mania worthy matches except maybe the triple threat if built up properlly, MITB if punk didnt win, and the legends match only coz of steamboats performance.

Matt Hardy vs. Jeff Hardy
The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels
Triple H vs. Randy Orton
Those were the good matches. Which leaves 4 bad ones (excluding the diva stuff which is by default bad). Not a good Wrestlemania if you ask me.

The show was more like a 5/10 or 4/10. Worst WM ever.

MitB was too damn short and I honestly don't believe Punk deserves 2 wins in a row at this point in his WWE career. MVP or Christian would've been a better choice IMO, but still, the shortness of the match was horrid.

Santina... ugh, that should be 0/10

Legends was a waste of time. Jericho beats up retired wrestlers and then gets KOed with two punches... after Mickey took three hours to get into the ring...

Ricky was great in the match, but that performance doesn't balance it out with everything else.

Intercont. title was lame, good job on that.

HHH vs. Orton was way too damn long. The crowd was dead after 5 minutes. And honestly I don't think anyone gives a shit about that storyline at all. 0/10

Outside of that, Three matches did not suck out of eight.

P.S. People only hate Cena to be cool.

I will wait to hear why you say he is the best in the world before I call you a liar. But I am sure you have a good reasoning.

Cena is a hard worker. He puts himself for the business, moreso than most of the roster in WWE.

That being said... I dont think he is very talented outside of charisma, and muscle, which I guess you can say is all it took back in the day to be an old school wrestling legend, but in todays world of high flyers, organizations around the world continuing to redifine wrestling, Cena doesnt stack up to their agility and tempo for high quality matches. But that is just my opinion.

Jack Evans isnt even in the top 100 doing it right now.. Yeah his moves will make you Oooh and Ahhh.. But when you danger yourself and others while doing it.. Thats not good..

I live in Houston so I was there, it was an awesome pay per view but the section I was in was full of Cena and Triple H fans. Everytime I started a Edge or Orton chant, there was silent and every time I booed Cena and Triple Sucks, I was booed and trash talked. I used to dislike CM Punk during his reign of suckage but the MIB match sold me back to the side of Punk. The HBK/Taker match captured the intensity of the crowd, after that match I could not do the Wooooo! anymore. Cenas match was awesome with a spear on Cena in midair by Edge.Amazing. Even though I despise Cena, lifting Edge and Big Show is impressive. Ricky Steamboat should come back do to his amazing performance. I was disappointed that MoMIZ lost but the ending was cool even though Carlito should ditch Primo, probaly the only boring high-flyer I know. The only other disappointing match was the so -called main event. Where was Legacy or the Mcmahons. Triple H was boring and kept Orton from doing anything amazing. I did make this match good for my section as I played the role of a Heel Commentator as I called Triple H a cheater and praised Orton when he did cheat by saying he was using his head.

I know of 2 people on this site who are older than me in real life. By the way you write online I know that I am older than you for one. For two I dislike people who boo cena to be cool and cheer orton to be cool. Orton is a solid talent but he is a HEEL. Your job is to boo him. Cena is a face. Your job is to cheer him. The only reason Cena is as hated as he is, is simply because its the "cool thing" to do. I am writing for this site by the way dominater.. Also learn to spell your name right :)

I Will also say to chronicle that John Cena does entertain me but he has not been a "white wannabe gangster" since 2005. So therefore that statement is purely ignorant and has no merit. Article will be posted soon..

go get 'em Blaze ... you rock man

now for the rest of you, you all praise Stone Cold, but yet at the HOF ceremony who did he pick out of the crowd to have a beer with ??? I symbolized it as a passing of the torch, from one icon to another

clue: it wasn't Orton, Edge or Big Show ...

Cena has heart, charisma and muscle ... outside of that he has no talent ????

wtf ??? is that some kind of joke ... just because he doesn't do risky high dives off a 20 foot ladder, or crash thru 3 tables stacked on top of each other, that means he is no good ???

then neither was Big John Studd, Bob Backlund, Andre the Giant, Bobo Brazil, Dick the Bruiser, George "the Animal" Steele, Haystacks Calhoun and many others

in case you forgot, it's called "wrestling" ... not the high flying circus

I disagree with you Blaze, just because they are Face does not mean we have to cheer for them. I have been a fan of Randy Orton and John Morrison (even when he was Nitro, boo me if you want.) when they first debuted. I don't hate Cena and he has tremendous strength and charisma, I respect that. But he is overated as he wins multiple times against way more talented superstars that can outdo him in non-staged match. I am a or used to be a Trips fan, but after 2004, I can't bring myself to cheer a selfish past-prime wrestler who won't let younger talent have a chance at the top.

What I meant by that Paco was not necessarily you HAVE to cheer the faces and boo the heels. But it shouldnt be seen as cool to cheer the heels and boo the faces like alot of internet smarks seem to think. I believe you should like people for certain reasons.. I like John Cena because of his amazing charisma, perfect work ethic, and his ability in ring. I also like Orton for the exact same reasons and will cheer him. I dislike Undertaker and am known to be one of the few who boo him at shows..

If I was "smarky" I wouldnt dare boo undertaker and would hail John Cena with a chorus of boos. Instead, Since the Undertaker doesnt entertain me, though he can put on hellish matches, I boo taker and cheer Cena.

Sorry if that comment confused you

hmmmm ... where is your "witty" article mr duminnater ... seems I must of missed it ...

not everyone has the same likes and dislikes, what a boring world that would be.

As far as "so what, he picked up the Big Show" ... it was a big deal, not only the Show, but Cena picked Edge up as well ... at the same time ... that's over 750 pounds ... I'm sure that you can do the same

As far as a 12 year old comment, I got one for ya ...

A college teacher reminds her class of tomorrow's final exam. "Now class, I won't tolerate any excuses for you not being here tomorrow. I might consider a nuclear attack or a serious personal injury or illness, or a death in your immediate family, but that's it , no other excuses whatsoever!" A smart ass guy in the back of the room raised his hand and asked, "What would you say if tomorrow I said I was suffering from complete and utter sexual exhaustion?" The entire class is reduced to laughter and snickering. When silence is restored, the teacher smiles knowingly at the student, shakes her head and sweetly says "Well, I guess you'd have to write the exam with your other hand."

Ask Jammin George? You mean the fake wrestler? I have wrestled the indy circuit for years and theres people on here who can attest to that.. Also I know hes full of crap because of how he writes his articles and what he says in it.. So pardon me if the fake doesnt bring your response much merit..

So you spelled your name wrong to be cool? How.. Ermm.. Interesting? And yes if you compare my text and your text CLEARLY I am the one who is young and immature.. Foolish really..

First time on this site and the last time... Johnny Blaze, or whatever you want to call yourself, you are a complete and useless moron. John Cena is the worst wrestler and I have ever seen in my entire life and he is ruining it for real and true fans (not uniformed children and girls like you). I was sitting first row at Wrestlemania 25 and Raw this past week in Houston and would bet my house and everything I own that I have been to more wrestlemanias, ppv's, house shows, and have met more wrestlers then you have or ever will meet. Cena's rediculous "push" is unheard of, unwarrented, and completely insulting to any real intelligent fan. He can't wrestle (at all)and I need a barf bag everytime his promos are on, in-case I can't make it to the remote quick enough to flip channels. He is absolutely terrible and if you think he is "the best" then you need to seriously get your head examined, especially if you ever want to move out of your mom's house and find a girlfriend who's not imaginary. HE SUCKS!!! Is this a British or Canadian site?

Wow.. I am older than you may think I guess. I am currently married and have a child and am also a retired wrestler from the Indy Circuit. I have met quite a few wrestlers as I grew up with a Uncle in the business. Now that being said.. Where do you get off?

I have been to 5 Wrestlemanias.. I have seen several amazing matches in my lifetime and I have witnessed magic at plenty of shows. Look up Magun TA v Tully Blanchard in a I Quit Cage Match.. I was there.. That should show a slight peak at my age..

Now as for me being a dumbass? Im sure I am.. But I also am not a sheep and follow the herd and just boo someone to be cool. :)

Thank you for understanding Blaze, and I cheer Orton and other heels for their talent and attitudes and gimmicks, not to be cool. Also to everyone who is insulting Blaze by calling him a 12 year old because let me assure you not just 12 year olds like cena. At Wrestlemania 25, I was booed by the section I was in for cheering on Edge when he speared Show through the barricade. They were the most hostile people I met when Cena won with all the "I told you sos" and the "Cean is the best" screamed at my face. I do not hate Cena but I disagree with him being the best, that belongs to Jack Evans or John Morrison, The Rock, Orton, or Brock Lesnar(Until he left)

Everythings right apart from the HHH Match Il say 5/10, Looking foward to reading your article's, the only good matches was Hardy v Hardy, Shawn v Taker and MITB, anyway good article. ;)

John Cena is not the best right now, even the numbers show he is not. He's the reason RAW went down from a 4.1 to 3.8 and kept falling....he wins the belt at WM25 and the best rating they can draw is 3.9 and yet Edge wins at NWO and the ratings blow up to a 4.1! He will never be in the same league as Hogan, Flair, Savage, Austin, Rock in drawing power and as for wrestling skills, his skill level is mid card and I am being generous. BTW, Long Time Fan along with myself and others have hated Cena since 2005 and the hate continues to grow---unlike WWE's business as evident by their constant cutbacks and price increases.

To Johnny Blaze....I don't need to be told what my job is....I pay my money and I can boo and cheer for who I want as long as I don't get out of line (which I don't). What kind of person cheers for someone just because they are a face? That's like supporting George W. because he's a republican or an African American cheering for Barack Obama because he's (partially) African American. Pardon me for being able to think for myself and cheer and boo because I like/dislike the wrestler and not being a follower or conformist.

You don't think Jack Evans could be the best. He is one of the most entertaining wrestlers I've seen. He risk his life doing those "flashy" moves. John Cena may not do flashy moves and his moves do not entertain.

wrestlemania was of good start but became awesome in undertaker vs hbk. although the streak continues to 17-0.i have rater it 10/10.extreme rules was better then any other match except hbk/taker but the worst one was of orton/hhh whome i have given 1/10.overall 7/10 because of taker.
