The Everlasting Ramble Volume 2: The difference between Technical wrestling, and “WWE” wrestling and more rants of wrestling fans…. HAI! I’m back again. My last article was very well received, I decided to write another (or was threatened by penalty of death to write another one, whatever you want to look at it) and I felt like I needed to tackle another sort of problem I see facing wrestling and the IWC, and continue to point out what flaws I find in the common wrestling fans Continuing off my last post… After my last post, I gave myself some time off to soak in TNA Slammiversary, and WWE Fatal Four way and after listening to different people and radio shows (one of the benefits of the internet) I have really begun to form another opinion of wrestling fans. There’s a fine line you can cross on what is good for a product, like TNA and WWE, and what you want to see I find people haven’t really seen that. Many people throw out perfectly acceptable views/opinions/matches/ and shows because they aren’t what fit their mental mode. They say something “sucks” before they really soak it in. Why? Simple, it wasn’t what they wanted to see. With that being said, I will be the first to admit that I am the first person who would sign a note on a wall if it asked if I’ve done this, but I am getting better, trust me. WWE and TNA put on perfectly good products, but most people throw them out because they don’t like what they see, while they don’t look at if it was entertaining for the group they were going after. They are too selfish in their interpretation and perception of a pay per view because they find it being crap, which shoos away potential fans and viewers from seeing it because it was “utter crap” Key in point, always give something a chance. If you go to in depth on viewing a show or angle, you will fall victim to this as well. Wrestling is a product, a thought. If you look to in depth, you will come across yourself going to opinionated when reviewing things. It’s alright to give your opinion, but remember to look at the product as a whole, not what you didn’t like…and everything else People find that if they bash a company/product long enough, they sound smart. I will say it again, it’s very simple, you don’t HAVE to watch it. No one (and if there is someone, I am sorry) is forcing you to listen or watch the show. You want to be “cool” and follow the crowd instead of trying to actually take the time it takes to form an opinion on what you just saw and having an educated response. Just because you talk about wrestling, have a wrestling related show, watch wrestling all the time, and have friends who like wrestling, doesn’t make you a wrestling fan. Now on to our regularly scheduled ramble… Chris Benoit…Bryan Danielson… Bret Hart… Kurt Angle… Dean Malenko (The man of 1000 holds)…What do most of these four have in common? At some point or another, they have had some form of “Technical superstar” attached to their name in some form or another. They have been called “The best” “The excellence of execution.” They have been told they are elite in the ring, and why? Because they have some form of “Technical” wrestling background in their life. I couldn’t really find a real “definition” of “technical wrestling” but I find technical wrestling to be some sort of pro wrestling where you are coming from a background of some kind in Amateur wrestling. In pro wrestling, you will see these guys usually do a little more work with submissions and holds and what not. Now, what I find to be “WWE” wrestling is the stuff you see people like John Cena, Edge, Randy Orton, Triple H doing. Not something where they will be dropping on the ground putting their opponent in a hold after hold, but doing basic brawling. Now, most are probably wondering what ramble I can get from this…well fear not faithful reader, I will have these rambles on a plate with a side of fries. People mix these two up. I will first go and attack the easiest thing I can write about, John Cena. John Cena is not a technical superstar. He isn’t going to go out there and give you hold after hold after hold. He is going to go out there and brawl. What really confuses me is when people say “Cena can’t wrestle” and “He’s got 5 moves of doom” but when you see someone like Randy Orton, wind up before unleashing a RKO, not a peep is heard in the smarky peanut gallery. John Cena is one of the best professional wrestlers in mainstream wrestling. I am sure I will get bashed up one side and back down the other (Please use my inbox for that as it’s easier for me to reply and make you feel stupid) John Cena represents his company with his fullest dedication. He doesn’t bad mouth people in public. He does exactly what he needs to do, what he’s told to do, without over doing it. He doesn’t try to be the most tech savvy wrestler. He doesn’t try to impress the fans that he doesn’t have. He goes out there and gets the job done. His wrestling style is the “Entertainment” style People like Bryan Danielson and Kurt Angle use what I like to call “Entertainment Technician” They use the wrestling moves they have learned in some form of amateur wrestling they learned in the past (and even if they didn’t take part in some form of amateur wrestling as a kid, there pro wrestling training was tech-like) They can go out there and do drop toe holds, headlocks, but still make it entertaining. They can go out there and full on WRESTLE a guy, and still put on a fantastic match Wrestling now isn’t what it was the days of the AWA, NWA, and other territorial promotions. You aren’t going to see a technical wrestling match every time you go to watch a WWE style match. Wrestling now is “entertainment” fighting. It isn’t something where you are going to see regulated moves like you would in other sports like soccer and basketball. People are always creating new moves. If you are stuck on the idea that because John Cena can’t go out there and mat wrestle with Jack Swagger, you need to grow up, take your Black Jack Mulligan T-Shirt off, wipe the Cheetos stains off your fingers, and turn off the old WCCW tapes you pirated from the guy on the corner of the street. Wrestling is ENTERTAINMENT. It’s made to be a form of entertainment that gives you action each time you watch it. It’s like watching a movie every time you go to watch a live event or watch it on TV. You watch it, and wish it were your life, your lost in it for hours and hours, thinking it’s real, but know it takes years of hard work to be able to make it look the way it does. It’s very simple. Enjoy what you’re seeing. People ruin the art and magic of wrestling when they decide that because they can talk, they have some idea that they know what they are talking about. Not everything you see on TV each week is bad just because it doesn’t fit in your opinion and mold of what acceptable wrestling programming is. Just because you don’t find that Rey Mysterio becoming World Heavyweight Champion or Alicia Fox winning the WWE Diva’s title doesn’t make sense doesn’t mean it’s a cruddy choice and it won’t last. Wrestling creative teams doesn’t market to just you. They market to a wide variety of people and take what they find to be the best thing for a large market of people and put it on TV, if you don’t like it? Stop watching. Go watch wives of Orange County or something. Now that’s programming! A Review… I will do this from time to time. Whenever there is a big event, show, concept, gimmick, or wrestler comes around, I will throw in my two cents because I find people seem to enjoy what I am talking about. This article we will talk about the new “bad guy” stable that is Nexus, or the NXT Season one crew. Now I could start right in the area that involves a certain American Dragon “Daniel Bryan *Clap clap clap clap clap” but I will save that for another article faithful reader. Sorry to disappoint. My main problem is what they are doing with them now. When they first came about, this whole gimmick was AMAZING. With the WWE PG rating (which is also another article topic coming soon to a TWG Article section near you) a lot of the heat that came from different angles was lost, with this angle, I felt generally moved. With the PG Rating, a lot of the juice was removed from angle. Good angles, but I never felt like they were getting over with my audience. Maybe it was because I let my guard down I have when I watch wrestling program lower than normal, but I marked. The term mark is used as a way to say I turned into a fan boy. The story was amazing, even if I still find it to be a cheap way to get these seven on WWE TV; I find it to be effective. I was pumped to see what would happen next, and actually found myself playing through in my head what could happen next week, which hasn’t happened in a while. If you didn’t see last Monday’s Raw, Nexus got their contracts and are official WWE Superstars… boo… this new GM decided that he was going to give them contract. WHY. You just went from having one of the best concepts in your company go down the tube. I texted a friend of mine and just said “Did you hear that” after a reply of “What?” I just replied with “WWE just dropped the ball.” Even if it was the same thing, it was done fairly well. Even if they should have milked their rebelling a little longer, it was one of the better stories I have seen in WWE. One of the suggestions I have felt could work is have Nexus invade more than just raw. Invade Smackdown. Invade superstars, Invade NXT, your old home. This would sell the idea that they aren’t just attacking the big show, but the ENTIRE COMPANY. IT would sell this more of being an “outsider” group that I feel they are trying to do. Well kids, this is it. I am Zodiac. If you have any questions about anything I do, or about this article, my PM box is always open. I am generally a nice guy. Have a good one folks

nice post; but i want to point out that the reason (i assume) that AWA, NWA, WCW allcrashed to the WWF / WWE, si that they focused more on the techincal part of wrestling; not Entertainment wrestling.apparently, most fans are more into the less technical aspect of "fighting"

John Cena is nowhere near one of the best mainstream wrestlers. You used a point where Cena Doesn't try and impress people he does his job and so on, but how does this make him a good wrestler? Makes him a good person/face of company but doesn't make him a good wrestler? Now Cena isn't horrible and can have entertaining matches but he is overly inconsistent and usually needs to play of someone with a more diverse offence. email- b-om-da@hotmail.com

Cena is one of the best at getting pop, and selling merchandise. I doubt anyone will deny this. Wether that is from what we could call tallent or not is questionable but I am not going to start on that debate. You will notice WWE takes a different aproach to wrestling than many other pro wrestling organizations. In other organizations, a person can be booked based on his ability to work a good match. WWE, less so.
I would like to comment on what you say, WWE and TNA put on perfectly good products, but most people throw them out because they don’t like what they see, while they don’t look at if it was entertaining for the group they were going after."
Problem is, if we dont like what we see, then the product is failing to entertain us. Should I enjoy a product because it entertains others? Or should I enjoy a product because it reaches me?
Now as to your cena comment, yes, he is a dedicated wrestler. I will not deny that. He represents his company well, always is one to take the WWE side and only once, as far as I can call spoke out with them firing Brain Danielson. But perhaps... a wrestler should try and win over the fans they dont have. Its called expanding your base. Again we could debate this, but a prowrestlers job is to entertain, if I am known for putting on boring matches among a big crowd of wrestling fans, perhaps I should do something to change this.
If the fans think I am stiff in the ring, shouldnt I do something about it?
Also to your last comment, if I am a pro wrestling fan, beleive it or not, I dont have many options in what I can watch. If WWE is bad, its getting worse and it wont get better, my alternative becomes TNA. If TNA is bad, I have ROH...if I have HDNET (which I doubt most people do). My point is, If wrestling fans dont like whats on tv, their option that they may take, is to watch something else...but when they do, their wrestling itch is not going to be scratched.
Ps. I agree with your statement at the review bit. A full blown invasion against the company could be good.
