The Extreme Briefing: ECW Report for 01/05/10

ECW is live in Louisville, Kentucky!!

Segment #1: Opening

Christian’s music hit and he makes his way to the ring. He begins by asking how fitting is it that they’re in Louisville, and he speaks about the ECW Homecoming. Suddenly, CM Punk’s music and he emerges from the back with Luke Gallows. Punk begins by saying that nobody can say anything more important than what he has to say. Christian grins and Punk asks him what’s so funny. He talks about Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart on RAW, and says that he never wanted to see CM Punk back on ECW. Punk says he’s back for the ECW title, and of course, he’ll say that he’ll win his match later and win the championship at the Rumble. And well, he runs his mouth about being straightedge again… Christian counters by asking if being straightedge means that you’ll look like you haven’t showered in two weeks. Christian says that Shelton will be facing Chavo Guerrero, and apparently, CM Punk will face Mark Henry, and Christian predicts a squash match in Henry’s favor. He says that CM Punk won’t smoke, he won’t take drugs, nor will he face Christian for the ECW championship. The crowd cheers and his music hits once again.

Chavo vs Shelton is hyped.

Mike Tyson as RAW guest host is hyped.

DID YOU KNOW?

In 2009, WWE had more live events in Europe than the NBA, NHL, MLB, and NFL combined.

Match #1: Shelton Benjamin vs Chavo Guerrero (ECW Homecoming Qualifying Match)

The bell rings and Guerrero begins the match with landing a few blows, taking Benjamin to the corner. Referee breaks them up, and Benjamin grabs Guerrero and tosses him to the corner and lands a few blows. Benjamin whips Guerrero off the ropes and lands a back elbow for a one. Benjamin whips Guerrero off into the corner and Guerrero dodges a corner charge. Guerrero attempts a Three Amigos, but Benjamin blocks and counters the third suplex to land a beautiful Bridging German Suplex Pin for a two. Benjamin locks in a head lock after the count, and lands a punch before whipping Guerrero off into the ropes, which Guerrero counters. Benjamin hangs on to the ropes, Guerrero charges and Benjamin tosses him over the ropes. Guerrero lands on the apron and uses the ropes to land a low dropkick and goes back into the ring. Guerrero works on the leg of Benjamin now. Guerrero hurts Benjamin’s leg by putting it against the rope. He gets on the apron and lands a nice roll-in senton on the hamstring of Benjamin for the two. Guerrero grounds Benjamin and gets in a leg lock. Benjamin gets out of the hold with a kick, and he connects with a big Dragon Whip! Both men are back up on their feet now, and Benjamin lands punches and whips Guerrero off into the ropes and lands a back body drop. Guerrero stops his offense with a few blows, runs off the ropes but Benjamin lands a face slam thing for a two count. Benjamin gets Guerrero in a Powerbomb clutch but Guerrero nicely rolls through to land in a One Leg Boston Crab. Benjamin rolls through and kicks Guerrero off. Guerrero gets up on his feet and lands a very nice hurricarana. Guerrero gets on the ropes, but Benjamin gets to his feet as well. Guerrero leaps off and rolls back to his feet, but he walks/runs into a Pay Dirt and Benjamin picks up the win.

Shelton Benjamin qualifies for the ECW Homecoming!!

Segment Rating: B

This was quite a match indeed. Very good opening match and a good match overall. This is exactly what Chavo needs – good matches and NO MORE HORNSWOGGLE!!!

Mark Henry vs CM Punk is hyped.

The Marine 2 is advertised. I’ll wanna watch this.

Tommy Dreamer’s last match/farewell last week is played.

Segment #2: Big Mouthing

Zack Ryder makes his way to the stage with Rosa Mendes. He speaks first about Tommy Dreamer being dead and gone. Ryder brags that he did something bigger than the ECW Homecoming, bigger than the ECW Championship: he stopped the heart and soul of ECW and changed the whole show. He says that ECW is now all about one person: Zack Ryder.

Segment Rating: D

RAW Rebound. I like Bret’s entrance music.

Rey Mysterio vs Batista on Smackdown! Is hyped.

Match #2: Ezekiel Jackson vs Vladimir Kozlov

Both men lock up twice and Kozlov throws Jackson over with an arm drag. Kozlov lands a belly to back slam and locks a head lock. Referee breaks the two up as they get caught up at the ropes. Jackson lands a big punch but Kozlov nails a kick but Jackson oversells it by going out of the ring. Jackson gets back in and misses a clothesline. Kozlov lands a few kicks but Jackson catches his leg and does some leg attack. Jackson works on Kozlov’s leg in the corner. Kozlov gets out of it and lands a few blows before getting kicked in the leg. Jackson continues to work on the leg by using the apron and the steel post. Jackson gets back in and nails a chop block and an elbow drop to the inner thigh twice before getting kicked off. Jackson goes to attack the leg once again as he gets up. Kozlov goes back into the corner and attempts a kick but is block, and Jackson hits Kozlov’s leg against his shoulder and locks in a painful leg lock. Jackson gets up and pulls on the leg and tries to do a spinning toe hold kind of move, but Kozlov kicks him out of the ring. As Jackson gets back in, he’s met by a couple of kicks and Kozlov connects with a Scoop Slam. He whips Jackson off into the corner and nails a Clothesline before sending Jackson into the other corner to nail a couple of shoulder barges before getting kneed in the face and met by a huge clothesline. Jackson lands a suplex by Kozlov. Jackson connects with a Uranage and gets the win.

Segment Rating: C

Quite a solid match from both men. Good show of power and all that, and I’ve never heard Kozlov scream so much before.

Segment #3: Backstage Talk

Tony Atlas talks to Mark Henry backstage and offers to accompany Henry to the ring like the old times. Henry simply says no and Atlas still offers his service if needed.

Segment Rating: Don’t deserve one.

Match #3: CM Punk (w/ Luke Gallows) vs Mark Henry (ECW Homecoming Qualifying Match)

Why do they sound like they’re cheering on CM Punk?

Punk tries to evade Henry immediately. Punk goes behind Henry and Henry breaks out of a body lock and lands a hip toss.

Why does CM Punk have so much chest hair now?

Punk connects with low and middle kicks as he gets back up, but Henry catches his leg once and Henry tosses him over the ropes.

Commercial (RAW Hype)

The show returns with Punk getting Clotheslined, and Luke Gallows looks like he’s smiling. Punk goes out of the ring, and Henry follows but is met with a drop toe hold and lands face first onto the steel steps. Henry rolls in and Punk lands some knees and stomps. Punk covers Henry for a two. Punk pulls up Henry onto his knees and lands some elbows to the back of his head. Punk brings him back up again and connects with a neckbreaker for a two. Punk lands some mounted punches. Punk locks in Triangle Choke or something like that and taunts him. Punk releases his grasp and gets a two count. Henry gets on his knees and Punk connects with big kicks to the chest and gets Henry down and a two count. Punk connects a few knees to Henry and he seems pumped up. Punk attempts a few more punches and kicks and Henry gets up, and connects with three headbutts and a huge clothesline. Punk goes off into the corner and is squashed by Henry. Henry lands a big slap/chop and misses a squash. Punk lands a knee and high knee but the bulldog is countered, and Punk is pushed into the referee. Gallows interferes and gets Henry groggy, and Punk lands a high kick for the pin.

CM Punk has qualified for the ECW Homecoming!!

Segment Rating: C+

Quite a solid match, but it’s slow pace didn’t catch my attention.

Show Rating: C

There were a solid display of matches, but once again, the segments weren’t too impressive. I like fast pace matches, that’s why the Chavo/Shelton opening received my best rating while Punk/Henry second and Kozlov/Jackson last. Chavo Guerrero is a decent wrestler, and although I’m not a fan, I must say that I’m pleased by his good performance on this show. Shelton did a good job as well, and so did the other wrestlers.

Here are the finalists for the ECW Homecoming, who will meet in an over-the-top-rope battle royal next week:

CM Punk

Evan Bourne

Matt Hardy

Vance Archer

Ezekiel Jackson

Yoshi Tatsu

Shelton Benjamin

Kane

I’m psyched for the ECW Homecoming finale!!!

Well, anyway, till then, I’ve been Sommerlund and I’m still hungry!

A plate of pasta and fried fish is never enough!

Oh, and also, why haven’t you sent over that Christmas turkey? *Sadfaec* :C

I go sadfaec now because of you :C

I hope kane will win because all the losing to batista and jericho and because of that he didn't get a championship opportunity against Undertaker,I think they really had the chance to make a good rivalry again cuz we learned from the rivalries before they are pretty good...
