Ladies, Gentlemen, Cavemen, and Feminists...
The Fist and The Wrestling Game presents SUMMER SLAM!
I've got 2000 words to tell you what this PPV is all about. I can sum it up in one. Wacky.
MATCH #1 INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH REY MYSTERIO (C) VS. DOLPH ZIGGLER
Dolph and Mysterio trade blows off the bat, with Dolph trying for some early pinfalls. Each of those to no avail. Dolph gets whipped to the corner, and as Mysterio charges him, Dolph flips him over his head. Instead of landing into the turnbuckle, Mysterio lands on the top ropes, and performs a moonsault from them onto a shocked Dolph. Rey lands a hurricanrana off from the apron onto Dolph, knocking Dolph into the cameraman. Rey goes to the top rope, and Dolph counters with a turnbuckle powerbomb. Dolph pulls off a gutbuster on Rey for another 2 count. Rey picks up the pace with a series of splashed and dropkicks, and tries for a flying cross body, only to get countered by a dropkick by Dolph. Rey makes a comeback after a countered back body drop, and gets an inzugiri off, landing Dolph on the second rope. Rey goes for the 619, but Dolph slides out of the ring getting out of the way. As Rey recovers, Dolph gets back into the ring and lands a running leg drop to a bent down Mysterio for another near fall. Rey powers back and lands a dropkick to Dolph's back and lands a 619. He goes for the splash, but Dolph sits up, making Rey miss the landing. Dolph tries for that top rope gutbuster again, but Rey counters it into another hurricanrana and gets the pin.
WINNER - REY MYSTERIO Match Rating - 7/10
It's not as good as the Jericho/Rey match, but this was a great way to get things started.
MATCH #2 MVP VS. JACK SWAGGER
MVP and Swagger have a little facial standoff. Apparently it's being billed as a culture class or some such. Swagger dislikes the ex-con MVP, and MVP dislikes Swaggers silver spoon from his mouth. It starts out pretty back and forth. Swagger eventually lands a few submissions to slow down the action. When MVP powers out though, he lets loose with a few mean punches and a face breaker. MVP lands a Ballin' elbow drop and gets a near fall. MVP tries for a Playmaker, but Swagger avoids it and tries a pin for a near fall. Swagger tries for a body splash, but MVP pulls his knees up to counter. One Playmaker later, and MVP wins.
WINNER - MVP Match Rating - 5/10
Once the cheap early submissions stopped, it became a better match. By then though, it was all over.
MATCH #3 UNIFIED TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH CHRIS JERICHO AND BIG SHOW VS. CRYME TYME
JTG starts off the match with a bit of offense, ending with a jumping elbow smash. Jericho gets ouft of the way, and tries for a Walls Of Jericho early. He doesn't pull it off though, and launches JGT into the corner, Jericho only gets a jumping senton to the face. Jericho gets a tag off, and Big Show slowly manhandles JTG. Eventually, he slips away and tags in Shad. Shad get manhandled for a while instead now. Shad powers out and lands a powerslam on Jericho, and makes the hot tag. JTG lands a Mug Shot, gets a 2 count after Big Show breaks it up. Shad knocks Big Show out of the ring. Jericho tries for a Walls Of Jericho, but JTG reaches for the rope. As Jericho tries to go for more, the ref pulls him off, allowing the Big Show to land his KO punch to flatten JTG, giving Jericho the pin.
WINNERS - BIG SHOW AND CHRIS JERICHO Match Rating - 4/10
It's a tag match with Big Show. Booooring.
MATCH #4 KANE VS. THE GREAT KHALI
Kane starts out cowering under Khali's laughable offense. Kane gets in a lucky shot, and tries to go for a chokeslam. Khali powers out and tries for a Punjabi Plunge, but Kane powers out of that. Khali goes for the Vice grip, but Kane runs to the rope, forcing the ref to break it up. As the ref pulls Khali off, Kane drags Singh into the ring as a shield. When Kane lets him go, and Khali turns his back, Kane ends the match with a dropkick to the knee and a DDT.
WINNER - KANE Match Rating - 3/10
Slow, lumbering. No matter how much people like Kane, he simply CAN'T make Khali appealing. It's just impossible.
MATCH #5 SHAWN MICHAELS AND HHH VS. CODY RHODES AND TED DIBIASE
After an insanely long entrance from DX, HHH roughs up Dibiase for a bit. Dibiase tags out to Rhodes who finds himself in DX's corner. Rather than fight HHH, Rhodes chooses to slap Michaels and taunt HHH to tag him in. Michaels comes in, and gets seperated for a fair amount of the match, dominating the flow. Michaels gets a hot tag in, and HHH cleans house. HHH lands a spinebusterm and tries for a Pedigree, but Rhodes breaks it up. Michaels comes in to knock Rhodes out, and HHH helps launch Michaels out of the ring onto Rhodes. As the ref is distracted pulling them apart, Dibiase hits deliberate low blow and begin tearing HHH apart. For about 6 minutes, Legacy apply headlocks stopping HHH from getting the hot tag. When Michaels gets it, he lands a series of inverted atomic drops, which ends as soon as Dibiase jumps in to save Rhodes. Rhodes tries for an Elbow from the top, but misses. Michaels tries for his own, but Rhodes runs up for a Superplex instead, which gets countered. Michaels tries for the Elbow drop, but Rhodes pulls up his knees to counter. Michaels goes for the Figure 4, but Dibiase breaks it up. HHH tries for a Pedigree on Rhodes, but Dibiase breaks it up. Michaels suffer both Dream Street and Crossroads due to distractions, and HHH lands a Pedigree in the same fashion. HHH knocks Dibiase out of the ring. As Michaels and Rhodes fight to thier feet, Michaels drops a Sweet Chin Music from literally nowhere for the win.
WINNERS - DEGENERATION X Match Rating - 8/10
This is probably one of the most entertaining tag matches I've seen in a LONG time.
MATCH #6 ECW CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH CHRISTIAN VS. WILLIAM REGAL (w/ Ezekial Jackson and Vladimir Koslov)
Christian lands a Killswitch and pins. This is literally ALL that happened.
WINNER - CHRISTIAN Match Rating - Negative 4/10
Oh, afterwards, Christian gets jumped and team heel all land thier finishers on Christian. This was longer than the fight, but I would have hoped they might take the ECW title a little more seriously.
MATCH #7 WWE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE MATCH JOHN CENA VS. RANDY ORTON (C)
Orton controls most of the start of the match, barring a few sporatic outbursts from Cena. After a 3 minute long headlock, Cena powers out. Cena fires out with a pair of flying shoulder charges, into a 5 knuckle shuffle. Cena goes for the Attitude Adjustment, but Orton gets out of it and goes right back to stomping on each of Cena's limbs. Cena goes for another Attitude Adjustment, but Orton grabs the top rope and pulls himself down. Then both men clothesline each other. They get up at the same time and start exchanging blows, but Cena comes out ahead. Orton takes the opportunity to pull a CM Punk and hits the ref on purpose. Then, without even waiting for the bell, he goes out to grab his belt and tries to leave. The bell is called. It's a DQ! But wait! They announce that the match be restarted, and if there's another DQ, he'll lose the belt!
Match restarts with Cena keeping the pressure on. The fight heads out of the ring, and Orton regains control. He tosses Cena into the steel steps before trying for three seperate pin attempts. Then, Orton takes his title again, and chooses to walk out. Hey, a count out? The announce that they need to restart the match again, and that if Orton's counted out, he'll lose the title!
Restart AGAIN : Orton runs back to the ring to stop the count, tries for an RKO, misses. Cena tries for an Attitude Adjustment, but Orton gets out and does a roll up with his feet on the top rope for the pin and the win! No? Another ref comes in to tell them to restart the match AGAIN!?
Restart ONE MORE TIME : Cena without a second thought locks the STFU in, but 'a crazed fan' interrupts the fight. Orton rolls out of the ring, and as Cena gives chase, Orton lands a rope guillotine, then an RKO for the 1,2,3.
WINNER - RANDY ORTON Match Rating - 5/10
Not their best match, but I did enjoy the attempted douchebaggery. Crazed fan though? Really?
MATCH #8 WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH IN A TABLES, LADDERS, AND CHAIRS MATCH JEFF HARDY VS. CM PUNK
The match starts with Punk kneeing and stomping Hardy into the ground, then throws him out of the ring, which leads to the first pair of chair shots. Punk goes for the title already and climbs the ladder, but Hardy knocks the ladder over and begins his assault. Hardy gets a chair and tries to run and splash Punk by bounding off of it, but Punk catches him and does a backbreaker using the chair as the breaking point. Punk continues his domination with a head first suicide dive out of the ring. He misses with his next chair shot, and Hardy whips Punk into the steps. Punk jumps and safely lands on them, turn to dropkick Hardy, only to get swatted with a chair on his way down. Hardy lays Punk out on a table, but misses with the splash! Hardy crashes through the first table. Punk gets the 'big ladder' and sets it up, giving Hardy plenty of time to catch him as he climbs it. Hardy climbs over CM Punk, but Punk grabs on. Hardy counters with a sunset flip powerbomb from the ladder. Hardy tries for the ladder again, but Punk pushes the ladder over knocking hardy into the turnbuckle. Punk gets Hardy and lands a Superplex *ONTO* the ladder. Both men get messed up pretty badly here. Hardy is pulled to his feet, and counters it with a Twist Of Fate. Hardy goes for a Swanton, but lands on Punk's knees. Punk tosses Hardy into the corner and lands his jumping knee. Hardy counters the Bulldog with a backdrop out of the ring, having Punk land through table #2. Hardy goes for the Title again, but Punk with a springboard flying forearm knocks Hardy down.
Hardy cleans up an announcer's table and knocks Punk out onto it. Then Hardy gets the BIGGEST ladder and swanton bombs Punk through the table. That is officially the awesome move of the PPV.
Medics come down to get Hardy away, as Punk slithers to the ladder to climb it. Hardy breaks away from the medics to stop Punk. They both climb to the top, and battle it out. Punk comes out ahead with a kick and a forearm to win it.
WINNER - CM PUNK Match Rating - 9/10
I would have rated this a 7/10, but that swanton bomb was EPIC.
As CM Punk celebrates, the lights go out, to reveal the Undertaker lying under Punk. He gets up and chokeslams Punk. Undertaker walks out as Punk lays broken on the mat.
PPV RATING - 7/10
I'm not thrilled about the Undertaker return, but I am pleased with half the matches. Christian's was weak, Khali/Kane was weak, MVP/Swagger needed more work, and Cryme Tyme/Chris-Show should have been worlds better for a title match. Well, you can't win them all.

Not thrilled the Undertaker is back?!? What is wrong with you?!? But opinions aside, wish I viewed the TLC match.
Little known fact: Kane had a DDT finisher when he first came into WWE, under his 'dentist' gimmick, if memory serves.

Good review, but I enjoyed the Tag title match. JTG was really going and made a lot of believers. And I don't agree that just because Big Show is in the match, it's boring. His confrontation with Shad was awesome.

The Renegation - The only comparison I have for the Big Show is Khali. However, I can say that Big Show can : a) Use the mic b) fall to his knees and stand back up
If your finisher is a punch, you need work. If your finisher is a chop (like khali) you need work. Yes, I know they both have one additional finisher, but see, they just get by on size, and not with substance. Show is ONLY good right now because Jericho is MAKING him look good.

Snappy.. :(
Your thinking mark like if you think that swanton bomb was THAT epic.. It was cool.. but that match was a fantastic TLC match without that spot..
Though we knew it would be atleast one big spot..
Good report

Snoggins - Meh. It was the best part of that entire match, and the best spot of the entire PPV. Nothing else specifically really called out "AWESOME!" but that. It was the move of the night.

How was one finisher the best part of a PPV? You pretty much see that or a twist of fate every time Jeff Hardy fights. Cool yes. Epic and the Best part of the PPV no.

Jordan - Then enlighten me, what was the spot of the night? Was it Kane's DDT on Khali? The entirety of Christian's match, perhaps? Big Show's KO punch? Yet another 619 from Mysterio? Oh wait! I got it... MVP's playmaker. That HAS to be it.

I decided to save some money, and I'm impressed with myself now.
What'd I miss? 8 seconds of an ECW Match? A DX match that wasn't a squash? A TLC Match, though we JUST saw one at Extreme Rules? 3 Lame Match Endings to the same match? A Khali match? The fact that they need to go back to the Drive-by Kick, the naming of which even a great children's author couldn't come up with, or did I simple miss a match Ziggler should have won, and a tag team match featuring JeriShow.
