The Heart of a Phighter: The Ending of a Tag Match

Back to home

Welcome to the Heart of a Phighter.

This article's topics: The Ending of a Tag Team Match

Hello all, this week, the Heart of a Phighter talks about the ending of tag matches, in the glory leading up to the tag team match at GAB that should steal the show unless Finlay and Hornswoggle win.

Let's talk about..the tinkerbell effect. Okay, I can see you're going, what's that? Tinkerbell? The fairy from Peter Pan? Okay, flashback to your childhood memories. Remember when Tinkerbell was about to die, and they were all, if you believe in Tink, Tink will come back to life? Imply that in WWE. Okay, so let's say John Morrison has a headlock locked on Jeff Hardy. Matt Hardy, on the apron, starts banging on the steel steps. This starts a clap, the claps continue and get louder, Jeff gets up and breaks the hold. Tinkerbell effect. This is used in just about every single tag team match, except for ones where Finlay/Hornswoggle are competing.

After that, is the double knockout maneuver. The word double is not to be used lightly here. This maneuver usually is something that has two superstars selling one move too big. It can be anything from a double clothesline to heck, we haven't seen it yet, but we may see in the future the superkick be used for it. The person dishing it out, or the dishee for this argument, usually does a bad job and commits a complete oversell. This leads to the hot tag.

The hot tag, the glory move for faces. This consists of something like a clothesline to the legal opponent, and then one to the illegal opponent. After that, the face usually tries to hit a trademark on the legal opponent, and it is either broken up by the illegal or modified. If it is broken, the crowd basically cuts itself off.

We're getting close to the finish here. Next up is the 'to the outside' move. This is a simple move where the illegal opponent is thrown out of the ring, or forced out by a move like a clothesline where both the heel and the face go over the ropes.

Finisher time! This is usually either one finisher to set up another, or just one. This always kills off the opponent and ends the tag match. Always. That is the end of the tag match, and I am the Philly - WAIT! There's something else for those of you have actually gotten to the end of the article!

WWE's segment of the week, selected from the 7/11 Smackdown, 7/14 Raw, or 7/15 ECW.

Way to Listen to the Boss, Guys

We head to the 7/14 Raw. Stephanie and Shane McMahon are begging for unity once more, and saying if no unity, actions will be taken. Yeah, they expect to have unity in a wrestling show. I cleaned my ears for a good five minutes after this. Then they go to outside the ring - to see Shawn Michaels beating on Chris Jericho! There goes the unity! Security guards break this up like they usually do, with a poor effort at first, and then a great one. These kinds of segments were good 3 years ago, and no other segment really sticks out in my mind this week.

Ladies and gentlemen, I am the Philadelphia Phighter. That is the Heart of the Phighter. Wait, give me it back! I'm still need to use it! - TPP.

i see you've been really rude when criticizing fellow article writers, let me use a quotation from yourself: "...I can't go along and find a point where you really have an opinion that sticks in my head." i see no point in posting this article except for one week of supportership

What??? I re-read the article like two times and I am not even sure what it was about. That article made absolutely no sense what so ever.

Hate to correct you but there was an ECW tag match with Impact Players vs ??? (maybe bWo), in which 2 wrestlers hit simultaneous superkicks. . . it was sloppy but it has been done.

I kinda dug the article but yeah it kinda needed a little extra sauce or spice, probably woulda been a good short blog but I guess the TWG punters desire more substance in there articles.
Anyways looking forward to next time TPP.

it doesn't need to be taken down, it needs to be expanded. we all agree that tag matches are somehow predictable, but how does it impact on the current tag team division in wwe, since apparently there might be a revival after the match at the gab?

The title of this article is "The Ending of a Tag Team Match." Now you described how all tag matches end, and of course you're right. All matches pretty much end this way. However, you did not tell us if you like or dislike this ending, and we think you're trying to give us a reason not to watch another tag match ever again. You gave us no conclusion to what you think should have been done, if anything at all. This is definitely an incomplete article, and needs revision before I can call it acceptable. I do however like like the RAW segment you added. That kind of stuff I don't think ever goes old. Would be better if Stone Cold was around not to listen to the McMahons however, but I can't blame that one on you Phighter.... or can I??

This article made me realize how predictable tag matches are. They really do end the same way. The WWE needs to change things up when it comes to tag team wrestling.

TPP: I hope you proofread before you post your article. The grammatical errors are distracting. Besides that, an OK post.
