The Saturn Effect
“Six Is A Crowd”
by Tartarus 3:16
What's good, yall? Welcome to the second edition of The Saturn Effect written by yours truly. Before I begin on yet another one of my pointless articles, let me say I'll be dropping the whole food advertisement shtick until my articles actually get popular so no need to worry about any lame attempts at trying to be funny. It'll all be serious from here. You can say your "Thank God's" now. Ok then, now that that's out of the way, let's take a look at one of the most unique angles that the WWE has had in a long time.
At first glance, having a stable consisting of "rookies" having an influential effect on the company they're working on whilst constantly getting the better of the company's major stars time after time doesn't sound like a good idea. Somehow, someway, the Nexus made it work.
The Nexus angle began after the conclusion of NXT season 1. Under the leadership of NXT Season 1 winner, Wade Barrett. Six days later on RAW, during a match between CM Punk and John Cena, the losers from season 1 and Wade Barrett suddenly appeared all of them sporting suspicious armbands. Then, without warning, the carnage began. John Cena, CM Punk and all other WWE personnel were brutally assaulted. Everything at ringside was destroyed. Unfortunately for Daniel Bryan, due to "taking the angle to far", he was released cutting down the group's number down to seven. Afterwards, their mission became clear. To have their revenge for their poor treatment during their time at NXT. During the next few weeks, they were seen ambushing and attacking various WWE superstars even some Hall of Famers and Vince McMahon himself. Finally, Cena formed a team of seven that would face the Nexus at Summerslam. Though the team had their ups and downs, they eventually beat the Nexus. The next week, Darren Young got kicked out for failing to beat John Cena. This now leaves the Nexus at si.........wait a minute. I forgot. Skip broke his ankle so now it's five.
I tried to make the bio as short as possible, but you can probably guess that Nexus is supposed to be a big deal and they pretty much are. For all of you nexus haters out there, you have to be asking stuff like, "How can you like Nexus? They're a nWo ripoff!". In a sense, that may be true, but take a look at it this way. Since when have rookies gotten this much screen time? So much importance? So much influence? Since when was the last time you saw John Cena so vulnerable? Also, for those of you NXT watchers, it only seemed like there were a few choices that would make suitable WWE superstars. I'm sure Darren Young and Heath Slater weren't considered at a large scale. But just look what the Nexus angle has done. It made "rookies" look like formidable forces. It made "rookies" look like legitimate title contenders. The Nexus brought out the best of the "rookies" that were previously seen as no more than laughing stocks or even a possible internet meme. The Nexus angle did something that WWE has only done in small amounts or failed to carry out(i.e. Jack Swagger). Make newbies look like legitimate wrestlers. Someone that'll force ringside commentators to make biased remarks on their behalf heading into a match. I'd really love to see all seven men stay in the company one day, but alas, I know it's not to be which brings me into another portion of my article. The disadvantages.
I say "disadvantages", yet I only find one disadvantage. The "fact", I say fact yet it is something I see as an inevitable future. The disadvantage being, what will happen when the group breaks up? What's going to happen to them? I doubt that creative team will try and come up with the time to find individual gimmicks or possible storyline interactions from them and thus, most of them will be cut. Also, because Wade Barrett used up his pay per view title match against Sheamus, which is now a six pack challenge, he's bound to lose and will probably be mixed in with the Nexus thus leading to a possible release for him as well. I don't know about you, but there are so many possibilities for each one of the Nexus members that it'll be a shame if either one of them gets released. Necessary, but unfortunate. Look at each of them individually and see what I mean. Skip Sheffield. He's pretty good on the mic with a devastating finisher along with a intimidating presence. A casual or monster heel in the making. Heath Slater. He’s improved on the mic as well and shows he can pull off a decent match(i.e. his match w/ Edge). Justin Gabriel. Needs a lot of work but who really gives a flying fish stick? 450 SPLASH BABY! Along with an amazing finisher, he has an arsenal of fantastic high flying moves. Plus, he has the ability to be a face OR a heel as seen with the Nexus. Michael Tarver. Once again, like magic, an NXT rookie has improved their mic skills right after leaving NXT. Wonder why? Anyways, his ring work still needs work, but if Big Show drops the one hit KO punch finisher, Tarver’s knockout finisher could be a feared trademark move no one will want to get near. Darren Young. I know he’s not in Nexus anymore, but I thought it’d be worth a mention. Not exactly one to stand out as a heel, but with his “loves to party” face gimmick he had in NXT, he can really get over with the fans. Plus, his finisher is really unique. David Otunga. Without a doubt, the best mic skills out of the entire group. Lousy ring work, but I believe he has the ability to carry out a feud. The ideal heel. Wade Barrett. The best out of all of them without a doubt. Pretty good ring work, terrific on the mic, kinda lame finisher, but overall, an invaluable asset to any wrestling promotion.
The Nexus, as individuals, have so many possibilities. For example, a possible tag team after the Nexus splits up. Two of them see eye to eye that they need to break away from the group. When they do, they go on and find tag team success. Justin Gabriel by himself is already a win. He doesn’t need to have so much mic time to hype up a feud or anything. What he’s capable of doing is enough. Either a devastating force to be reckoned with or an underdog, without a really hyped up feud that requires a lot of mic action, Justin could be a big name in the WWE. Plus, with him “taking” out Vince McMahon and Michael Cole constantly hyping up his finisher, he’s hard to ignore. David Otunga could probably be in a feud with Cena. Since they both aren’t good wrestlers and they have superb mic skills, Cena won’t overshadow Otunga that much except by seniority. Like I mentioned earlier, I see it inevitable that some of the “rookies” in Nexus will be cut due to lack of ideas, but in case that happens, here is who I hope stays and here is who I wouldn’t mind leaving.
Stay
-Justin Gabriel
-David Otunga
-Skip Sheffield
-Heath Slater
Go
-Wade Barrett(Yes, seriously.)
-Michael Tarver
-Darren Young
If you want to ask any questions on where I stand with the Nexus or for all you trolls out there that need something to do, the comments box is below. For now, though, I’m Tartarus 3:16 and you’ve been mooned!

How come everyone thinks David Otunga had/has awesome mic skillz?? I never saw it in NXT or The Nexus angle. Sure, its alright but not "OMG ITS AWESOME" i think Barrett or Tarver is better on the mic

@ The destructornator
His mic skills were the reason he was runner-up of NXT Season 1. For example, listen to his promo on Barrett. I thought it was pretty funny, although not necessarily practical.
