The Weekly Review #8

Welcome to the eighth edition of the Weekly Review. This week I will continue down the road to Wrestlemania and feature the return of TNA right before they switch back to Mondays. Is this move good or bad?

Week In Review

Monday Night RAW

Like every week, the week was kicked off by the best show. RAW has been getting better and it didn't disappoint. It wasn't great at all but it was alright. MVP and Jack Swagger qualified for Money in the Bank in two very quick matches and the rest was just an average show. A couple feuds also got pushed to the next level when Legacy teamed up to attack mentor Randy Orton and Bret Hart will officially fight Mr. McMahon at Wrestlemania!

Best Promo: Although I really enjoyed the magic Hornswoggle cereal segments with Cheech and Chong (im kidding), they didn't get it. My favorite promo was between Batista and John Cena. It may have just been talking but I like this rivalry and think they will put on a great match at Wrestlemania.

Worst Promo: Yeah the cereal promos seemed very dumb but by far what is Bret Hart doing? Is he really going to pull a Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan? I expected Hart to manage Cena at Wrestlemania with McMahon managing Batista but no... instead there supposed to fight? You don't get your leg broken between two cars at the age he is and still fight just a month later. Wrestlemania is live and there is more of a chance of us witnessing a heart attack then a good match.

Worst Match: I watched their tag team match last Thursday on Superstars and it was about 100% more exciting. Jack Swagger beat Santino in like 10 seconds on RAW and it was a wasted of entrances and a commercial break. To be honest, it wasnt just the match that I didnt like. Its also just the competitor in particular. I still wonder why a great show like RAW still has a job for Santino when he only leaves a bad impression on the show. He always loses and his matches are always terrible because his move-set is embarrassing. Not sure how he even get a nickname (Cobra) but hopefully he joins the list of the wrestlers recently released.

Best Match: They call it a main event because its supposed to be the best match and it was. The match ended in a sour way but the other matches on RAW didn't really have anything to offer. The main event had DX possibly fighting in there last match together to take on the Unified Tag Team Champions. In the end Show Miz retained because The Miz was able to sneak in a roll-up without needing help from Big Show's right hook punch. The distraction was caused by HBK having a stare down with The Undertaker who appeared on the titantron. After the match, HBK stormed off and left Triple H to be attacked by Sheamus.

WWE NXT

WWE NXT brought us three more matches this week and I enjoyed this show far more than any ECW ive seen recently. Otunga lost his rematch with Darren Young due to a distraction but it was still a great 15 minute match. Afterwards Wade Barrett handed Daniel Bryan his second loss by dominating him with a very heel strategy of targeting the injured area. In the main event Matt Hardy teamed with highflying Justin Gabriel to take out William Regal and Skip Sheffield.

Worst Moment: The format! Who decided that the pros will vote who is in the WWE and who isnt? That means like 3 or 4 guys could make it for all we know. This format has almost wrecked everything I enjoyed about this new show. I expected either and elimination format leading in a championship match or just a tournament on a 2 hour season finale. Instead there will be a vote? What a shame it truly is that the season is going to end like that.

Best Moment: The matches compared to last week were phenomenal. All three matches were high intensity with some nice moves making sure the match never got to boring. You put eight un-signed guys in the ring to be forced to fight for there WWE career and all of a sudden you get 110% out of each wrestler which eventually results in decent matches. You know the matches are good when they get best moment over Carlito spitting apple in Heath Slator's face. (Slator: Thats cool? Striker: No... thats NXT!)

TNA Impact

Yes... TNA is back on the Weekly Review but the question is for how long? I gave it the two hours of my time this week and I was un-satisfied. Right now TNA is centered around two rivalries that show no interest to me. Jeff Jarrett, Eric Bischoff, and Mick Foley are all past their prime and are getting to much credit while there brand slowly heads down to eventually crash into the ground. The other is the rivalry leading into the tag match this Monday. Ric Flair has been managing AJ Styles and they will take on Abyss and Hulk Hogan. The match was hyped further when Styles retained his title by targeting the injured D'Angelo Dinero. I predict this match to end with a pin by AJ Styles. Hogan and Flair will both have heart attacks while Abyss tends to precious ring like Gollum. I mean come on... Flair sweats and loses his breath when he just gets on the mic now-a-days. Good luck wrestling a main event match.

Bad Moment: TNA is really starting to drag on there shows almost like a sleeping pill. Impact now includes a very excessive amount of segments with very few and very short matches. I had to wait nearly a half hour just for the first match and that isnt the kind of show I want to watch.

Worst Moment: The move to Monday is by far not a move im a fan of. TNA used to be a very exciting show to watch just 2 years ago and then it slowly started to fade. Now Hogan has come in and has taken away the six sided ring and modified things his way. He changed a lot but moving the shows to Monday is just not a good idea. RAW is more popular and its only going to eventually decrease there viewers. Just because one TNA Monday rating was high doesnt mean they all will be. Personally for me its Wrestlemania season... which means I will be in the group watching RAW without a question.

Friday Night Smackdown

Smackdown included many decent matches which made for a decent show. Shelton Benjamin and Ezekiel Jackson continued to get a push while Matt Hardy has qualified for the Money in the Bank match at Wrestlemania. Luke Gallows also may be just an under carder who is a step down from CM Punk but he put on a great match against Rey Mysterio on Friday. I dont know if I was just really in the mood for wrestling or what but this match kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way. Great match which means Mysterio and CM Punk should do even better if they face off at Wrestlemania in that mask vs hair match.

Worst Moment: Where is the Taker? The Undertaker hasnt shown his face much on RAW but he has been there more than Smackdown lately. I know he is recovering from some injuries but I want more hype to his match with Shawn Michaels. So please Smackdown... get The Undertaker on the air while you can.

Best Moment: John Morrison is finally getting some people to recognize his talent but not as much as he deserves quite yet. He might not be headlining Wrestlemania but hey... he will be there. The only bad part is that his match with be for the Unified Tag Team Championships and his partner is R-Truth. R-Truth is alright I guess but I dont like his style of wrestling or his gimmick. Maybe this year the tag match will actually be featured on the show.

Big Stories

Wrestlemania XXVI

Not only was the whole card almost all known a month prior... but this match card is really disappointing me. Yeah the hype is great and so are some of the matches but im just not getting the usual Wrestlemania feel on this years card. Right now it looks like we have 5 singles matches and not even one is a special match. Hopefully this changes because other than Money in the Bank, all the matches are just going to drag on. Im pretty sure one of the World Title matches wont be made a triple threat so right now there in heavy need of a stipulation to draw more attention to the match.

RVD To TNA

TNA may be picking up a lot of old talent but RVD is the best news ive heard from TNA in a long time other than Jeff Hardy. RVD is not only a crowd pleaser but he has that level of hardcore that might be able to bring TNA back. WWE is rated PG so it wont happen any time soon there but RVD gives TNA a chance. Hulk Hogan leaked the announcement but either way its going to be a positive for TNA. Remember that historic match with John Cena at One Night Stand? If he can find a way to perform at that level than this could really be the big pick up.

Umaga

Its sometime past the death of Umaga but im still going to talk about the situation. A drug overdose has been decided as the cause which is known but still im wondering why the WWE doesn't bother to show any respect. He might not be as big as Chris Benoit, Owen Hart, or Eddie Guerrero or have even been signed with the WWE at the time but the least they could do is a single promo or tribute package. RIP Umaga and RIP ECW.

Best Show: Monday Night RAW

Best Performer: AJ Styles. He continues to wrestle through the weeks and I see him as the guy with TNA on his back while Kurt Angle takes a break

Best Statement: Edge on Smackdown. Every time he has been on a show since Royal Rumble, Edge has speared someone to leave the final statement. Friday was no different as he speared Big Show and Chris Jericho

Worst Show: TNA Impact

Worst Performer: Santino. He never wins and his gimmick is terrible. Release him next or at least take away the Cobra nickname and save if for someone good

Worst Statement: TNA moving to Mondays in an attempt at making a statement towards the WWE

Santino has a cobra? like the bad guys in Dodgeball or the bad guys in GI Joe?

Good article apart from one thing... Santino shouldn't be released, maybe not even change his gimmick too much, just give him some wins

I think Santino is there only as a comic relief. That is apart from his role as jobber of course. The "Cobra" is just another move to make his gimmick a little more funny in the ring. Useless of course but funny nonetheless.
Because WWE is still in the PG era and there is hardly anyone in the roster to provide any kind of humour (Cena has become too serious, DX is about to break up (i think) and dont even get me started on Jillian and Hornswoggle) I think Santino will stick around for sometime.

I remember when Santino was a legitimate competitor. They should bring back those days and chuck him into the Intercontinental title scene.

The match that I'm waiting for is Edge vs Jericho.

3.5? I watched both Raw and TNA, TNA entertained me more. They gave it all they had and it was a great show.
As for Really Awful Wrestling, it was pretty boring.

Nice Article. Didn't get to watch TNA but it's recorded on my DVR. Will watch it later to see if it deserves 3.5/10.

Yeah, once I got to the part about TNA, I was thinking to myself: Where have I heard this before? Is this just another repeat of last week's article?
