1) WWE Women’s Championship: Candice Michelle VS Beth Phoenix

Akira:  Two of WWE’s top tier women going at it for the gold: what else is there to say? The size difference will make it hard for Candice as Beth will be sure to dominate. However, I predict catastrophe for her if Santino decides to bring himself to ringside…
WINNER BY PIN AND WWE WOMEN’S CHAMPION ONCE AGAIN:
Candice Michelle
+LOGIC: Roll-up pin by Candice, with the help of failed interference by Santino~ this will hopefully lead to Beth costing him the Intercontinental strap.

Jester:  Candice has taken the time to get better in the ring, but she is not quite there yet. Beth Phoenix has been gold with Santinio and should keep the title here. It would be great for Santino if she were to lose as he would surely rub it in at ever opportunity. I think that will happen just not this month.
Winner:
Beth Phoenix

Curtis:
Im so glad this match is on the PPV....why? Cause now theres no room for a Divas Title match, which means I dont have to sit through a Michelle McCool match....so Amen to that. Glamazon eats women like Candice Michelle for breakfeast...this is a no brainer...
Winner (And still Champion):
The Glamazon

Phighter:
The battle of who has the uglier photo to represent themselves on the PPV picture. (If you haven't seen it, check it out, the pictures are bad.) Phoenix won against Michelle McCool while Candice stood there and looked ugly. I'll give it to Beth.
Winner, via Glam Slam, and STILL champion:
Beth Phoenix

Glide:
On the one hand, I think they have set up the Santino/Beth relationship perfectly for Marella to cost Beth the title here.  But on the flip side, I doubt WWE is quite stupid enough to give Candice the belt immediately after she returns from an injury she suffered while returning from her original injury.  Candy may be grabbing the belt at a later date, but until they feel sure of her health...
Winner:
Beth Phoenix

Ranger:
Even when match quality is getting better the women’s matches continue to fail to grab my interest. I just don’t get excited about them. Maybe it’s because Candice is still showing severe ring rust. Maybe it’s because it’s basically the same match over and over again in the women’s division. I cannot wait until Melina gets back. Put her and Mickie in another Triple Threat against Beth and I’ll watch that. That day won’t come for months to come so until then your winner…
Beth Phoenix.

Vince:
If they let Candice win, I will turn off the TV every time a diva's match comes on... I mean, I'll watch the entrances, because they dance & sometimes strip, but that's all! Beth FTW.

Indy:
Candice is still one of the greatest divas on the entire roster in my opinion. I hear more praise about her work ethic by reports than most divas, Candice is incredibly beautiful and stylized, and she has an entrance that you just can’t teach people. I don’t think the diva’s completely understand the value of their entrances. Stuff like Maryse and Michelle is fine, but it just doesn’t stick out. Compare their entrances to Candice or Beth though, and it’s no contest. These two are awesome and they know it. And I’ve no doubt that they are going to work to make this an actual “wrestling” match. That being said, Candice is injury prone, and Beth needs to carry Santino. I just don’t see a title change happening here. But the thing is... I really don’t see who else is supposed to get it. Please tell me it isn’t going to be Kelly Kelly. Ugh... maybe we’ll get lucky and turn this into a feud that drags for a bit.
Prediction: Beth Phoenix retains.

2) Big Show VS The Undertaker

Akira:  Flashback: Taker gets screwed by La Familia… La Familia is screwed by Edge… Taker destroys Edge... Present: Taker still wants to physically harm Vickie (eeew), causing her to recruit Big Show to the dark side… to be honest, I’m really getting tired of this angle. It’s keeping us from what we really want and that is Taker VS Triple H for the WWE title… heavyweight battles are slower and lamer than a heavyweight VS light heavyweight or even cruiserweight so I’ll skip the details and say…
WINNER BY DISQUALIFICATION:
THE UNDERTAKER
+LOGIC: There will be interference by whoever Vickie hires… I prefer Edge but it’s not the right storyline or the right time to bring him back, trust me.

Jester:  The Undertaker doesn’t lose too often, I think he only has 2 losses a year in his contract. I know they are trying to give Big Show a push teaming her up with Vickie but come on The Undertaker only loses when he wants to. This isn’t a special match. The only way Big Show wins is with outside interference.
Winner:
Undertaker

Curtis:
So these two go at it for the what....110th time in their careers....been there, done that, bought the T-Shirt...not looking forward to this one at all. The real story here is Vickie-Taker....and wouldn’t mind witnessing another tombstone on The Chimp as the one last week on Smackdown looked, Oh so sweet....
Winner:
Undertaker

Phighter:
'Taker's hurt, so they may hand this to 'Show, but then what? Big Show kissing the Vickie, another wedding segment? An Edge spear to Show? The Vickie cheats on Big Show with Edge? Whatever. I'll give this to Show so he can take Edge's spot as The Vickie's partner, and so Big Show can be the Henry to the returning 'Taker.
Winner:
Big Show

Glide:
Injury or not, Taker is not jobbing to Big Show.  DQ win?  Maybe.  Beatdown after the match to give him some time off?  Possibly?  Big Show still coming out looking good?  I hope.  But Undertaker declared the loser of the match?  I don’t see it.
Winner:  The Undertaker

Ranger:  This is really the only match I haven’t been able to look at and make up my mind about the winner right away. On one hand The Undertaker’s knee has been bugging him and Show last time they met pummeled him. On the other hand The Undertaker is, well, The Undertaker. And that’s saying something. ‘Taker seems to be able to find ways to win in the most impossible situations. However on this night I believe the World’s Largest Athlete will prevail.
Your winner…Big Show

Vince:
In the shape that Taker is in, they couldn't, or wouldn't, book him to win. Big Show will probably take him out for another 3 months and then a return at the Rumble or something... The Show.

Indy:  What a waste of two guys who had could have done so well if they managed to stay apart. These 2 are just default for each other.
Prediction: Shenanigans.

3) ECW Championship Match: Mark Henry VS Matt Hardy

Akira:  Now I like Matt but I don’t feel that he carries the air of “hardcore”… in fact, the “air of hardcore” is altogether missing from the current form of ECW! With that, I am now deeming Matt not “intimidating” enough to carry the ECW title and that’s why it’s time for some “Silverback Payback”…
WINNER BY PIN (WORLD’S STRONGEST SLAM) AND ECW CHAMP AGAIN: MARK HENRY

Jester:  Matt Hardy has never pinned Mark Henry. Heck he can’t even cover the big man and make it look like he could pin him. I have to say I don’t watch a lot of ECW anymore. I DVR it every week but never seem to get around to watching it. I have a feeling this one will go to Matt Hardy so the bothers can have a feel good moment in the ring celebrating both being on top of the mountain at the same time. We won’t tell Matt that his mountain isn’t quite as big as Jeff’s though.
Winner:
Matt Hardy

Curtis:  This is the real test for Matt...not a test in that this is his first proper title defense...not a test that he must prove he’s no fluke champion....the REAL test here is whether he can actually carry mark Henry to a good match. Tommy Dreamer, Finlay, Kane etc have all tried and failed. Its all on you Matthew...
Winner (And still Champion): Matt Hardy

Phighter:
You know, I got to see these guys wrestle from a very in-depth analysis when I was writing the X-Press. (I literally paused after every move, wrote it down, and continued.) Mark and Matt don't suck. Tony Atlas will not be a factor, as he will be ejected for fan response. With that, I think Matt Hardy needs to give the ECW Championship something, and this is the start of that.
Winner, and STILL ECW Champion:
Matt Hardy

The Glide:  Extremely popular, first-time ever world champion in his first PPV defense.  ‘Nuff said.  There is no reason at all for them to take the title off of Hardy yet, and he should be transitioning to a feud with Miz and/or Morrison after this if booking team have their heads on straight.
Winner:
Matt Hardy

Ranger:  It’s been kind of surreal for Matt Hardy supporters to see him as one of WWE’s “big three” champions.” but it’s been a good feeling. It’s not quite a world title, but it means that WWE can give Matt a big push, and we just have to hope he can make the best of it. Mark Henry remains one of the most intimidating men I’ve ever seen despite having a massive losing streak. The size and strength of Mark Henry are hard factors to overcome, but Matthew proved that it can be done in his 30 second Summer Slam match in which he managed to hit the Twist of Fate on the World’s Strongest Man. So being an avid supporter of all things Hardy, and using the little common sense I have I predict your winner…
Matt Hardy.

Vince:  Somebody gonna get they ass kicked, somebody gonna get they head split.

Indy:  Henry became the World’s Biggest Jobber not once, but twice to the Twist of Fate. As a World Champ. Yeah. a World Champ. And the worst was on PPV. I hope this lasts as long as their Summerslam encounter.
Prediction: Matt Hardy retains.

4) Number 1 Contender Match for the World Heavyweight Title: Batista VS John Bradshaw Layfield

Akira:  So the so-called “creative team” of RAW has put The Animal in a match against JBL? I hope this is a sign of abandoning all lame attempts to turn Dave heel. It’s going to be a power game all around with shoving, powerslams, spinebusters and big boots sure to abound in this match. It’ll be entertaining to see if Dave can lift JBL up properly for the “Batista Bomb” or how momentum does JBL need to muster to get the “Clothesline From Hell” to knock Dave off his feet!
WINNER BY PIN (CLOTHESLINE FROM HELL): JOHN BRADSHAW LAYFIELD
+LOGIC: Batista is expressing that he wants time off for like EVER; this may be his only chance to catch a break. Having JBL decimate him is also good heat bait for JBL and helps set up an interesting match later on…

Jester:  This one is for the number one contender spot on Raw. JBL has kind of been a main event jobber since he came back. What is the point? He was great as an announcer and he did grow into his Championship run toward the end but that time has passed. Batista is only logical since I’m picking Jericho to retain.
Winner:
Batista

Curtis:
These two have never put on a good match ever (See their feud in 2006 to see what I mean). And as I go on, I just realise how much this PPV is actually going to suck. Jericho is a Heel champion...he needs a Face Contender....thats certainly not going to be JBL....so um....guess its gonna be Batista then.
Winner: Batista

Phighter:
Umm..neither is not an option here? I've got Batista to cement Jericho a little more. I actually have a big complex plan for Jericho now that I know they won't just let him fall away. Batista ducks a Clothesline from Hell, spinebusters, and then Batista Bombs JBL.

Glide:
I’ll definitely be rooting for JBL.  Never thought I’d be hearing myself say that.  Okay, my reasons may be more related to the ladder match than to this match.  Sue me.  In short, next month’s title feud has to be Jericho vs. Batista OR Michaels vs. JBL.  Don’t think I haven’t considered the possibility of JBL vs. Jericho just to swerve us, but I think WWE has to realize that would be awful.  With that said, it has to be...
Winner, and new #1 contender:
Dave Batista

Ranger:
I like both of these guys a lot, but I don’t want to see either of them as the number one contender. JBL just doesn’t give off that championship vibe; he doesn’t make me believe he could win it if he had the chance. Batista has been in the title picture way too much over the past years, and using him would get old real quick. However a feud between Jericho and Batista could be very good, although I’d rather it not be for the title. So if I had to choose I’d go with Batista, but my good, or bad, sense tells me otherwise.
Your winner… Neither. No contest.

Vince:  Batista has been "almost there" for sooo long. Let Michaels win the strap and have a fresh program with JBL. Batista can pwn on Jericho. I say JOHN BRADSHAW LAYFIELD, the man who lost more on the stock market this week than you will ever see.

Indy:
This match is funny. No really. These guys both beat Cena not long ago. I bet you never thought you’d hear that! So how far down the card has Cena been relegated? Let’s see - not former champ (CM Punk), not in a feud with champ (HBK), lost to both people going for contendership (Batista, JBL) and he isn’t the champ himself (Jericho). I figure that puts Cena as the #6 top dog. And that’s assuming you don’t think Kane is getting a bigger push, at the moment. Anyway - Batista beat JBL a couple years ago, so he would be my pick. This is also congruent with the thinking that I expect Jericho to retain to make it heel/face. This just seems a better match-up than HBK/JBL. But even if I’m wrong about Jericho retaining, HBK/Batista works just as well. f course, all this is just awesome continuity with the tri-feud that went on immediately after WM24. Anyway, the winner seems clear-cut to me.
Prediction: Batista with the win.

5) WWE Championship Match: Jeff Hardy VS Triple H

Akira:  This again… the supposed “Jeff gets his break” situation but sadly, no. If Hunter were to lose his strap right now, this wouldn’t be the way and Jeff wouldn’t be the one to take it from him. Besides, even if WWE management claims they won’t penalize Jeff that last “incident”, this is another way of doing just that. Match detail: some high-risk from Jeff will slow down The Game but he’ll take it back with a few knees, some submissions and finally ending it with…
WINNER BY PIN (The Pedigree) AND STILL WWE CHAMPION: Triple H
+COMMENT: Quit screwing up Jeff!

Jester:  This one could go either way. Triple H as Champion with Smackdown going to My Network gives the show an established Champion as it debuts. Jeff Hardy as Champion gives it a chance at a new excitement level as a lot of fans want to see Hardy finally win the big one. I think WWE takes the chance and gives the nod to Hardy.
Winner:
Jeff Hardy

Curtis:  HHH will not drop the title to a liability. Having Jeff as champion is a major flight risk as he is already on his last warning in the WWE. Some say that carrying the belt may mature him....Bull crap. Hands down, HHH victory here.
Winner (And still Champion):
HHH

Phighter:  Hmm..Triple vs. Jeff Hardy? Stephanie vs. Nobody? 12 World Titles vs. A bunch of Tag Titles? Marty Garner vs. Drugs? I know!
Winner, and NEW Champion:
Vladmir Kozlov!

Glide:  There was a certain point when I was high on Hardy (pun intended?  Maybe?) and kept believing that this one would be the one.  That ship has sailed.  Can we please find a way to get this belt on MVP before Triple H’s ego eats the title?
Winner:
Multiple H’s

Ranger:  No match will make me stand up and scream like this one. I’m the biggest Jeff Hardy mark in the world, and that’s a fact I’m quite proud of. I could go into to all the reasons why WWE should and shouldn’t trust Jeff, but I won’t. Jeff has been chasing the WWE title for about a year now, and throughout his entire career this is only his third one-on-one match for the strap so you know he is going to be hell bound and determined to walk out a champion. Triple H, on the other hand, has been a dominating champion since his reign began back in April. Since moving to SmackDown though he seems to have lost a lot of his gusto. He’s just not as entertaining anymore. He was more entertaining in his one night DX reunion then he’s been on all his combined SD appearances since being drafted there. Of course there is of course the third variable, and that is Ivan Drago…I mean Vladimir Kozlov. He’s been attacking the champion and challenger for weeks now in search of better competition. So while my real prediction will be Kozlov interfering in the match, thus rendering it a no contest. However my faith in Jeff Hardy will always win out no matter how ridiculous the situation.
So my official prediction is your winner…Jeff Hardy.

Vince:  You're kidding me. HHH.

Indy:  Jeff has about the best track record against Triple H as anybody I’ve ever seen. Jeff beat HHH for the Intercontinental title back in the day (when Steph was married to the Hs on-screen), then there was that #1 Contenders match that put Hardy in for that unreal leadup to facing Randy Orton at the Royal Rumble... let’s face it, Hardy does well for himself. It makes me wonder if Trips is high on this kid.  But y’know, I’m sick of seeing Hardy be in contention and not get the bloody thing. No seriously - it bothers me. I would say it’s finally time for the clean win. I would say. But something about this Kozlov character just doesn’t sit right with me. Please to all things good in life to let Kozlov not intervene, have Jeff win the belt, feed Kozlov to Trips, and let Jeff face the rising-star heels.
Prediction: Jeff Hardy wins the match.

6) LUCHAS DE APUESTAS (“Match with Wager/Stipulation”): Kane VS Rey Mysterio

Akira:  Is it time for Oscar Gutierrez to step out and become his own star again? Can the WWE carry on without a luchador of his caliber? Sadly, a big fat NO to both questions… Rey just signed a 3 year contract with the WWE and I’m pretty sure unless Kane or Gregory Helms will ever put their masks back on, Rey is pretty much THE luchador of the company… There will stellar counters in this match hopefully like that big boot counter against the springboard body press on last week’s RAW but Rey will hang in there to hit the…
WINNER BY PIN (619 to Springboard Legdrop): REY MYSTERIO
+WISH:
BAH GAWD, BRING BACK THE HURRIKANE TAG TEAM!!!

Jester:  Mysterio wants some revenge here and Kane wants another mask on his wall. I hope that they don’t take the mask off of Rey because it did nothing for him when that happened in WCW. Just as the Undertaker only has 2 losses a year in his contract Kane got the one with only 2 wins.
Winner:
Rey Mysterio

Curtis:  The stipulation alone gives away the outcome...there is NO WAY we will be getting to see Rey’s pretty little face...therefore there’s only one outcome, Little Rey Rey gets the win. Why wont he be removing his mask? Not only will it kill his character (And WWE truly cant afford to be doing that right now) but it will also shame him back home as we all know about the Luchador code don’t we?
Winner:
Rey Mysterio

Phighter:  Rey's what? Third unmasking if he loses? Do you really think the guy who can get the little kids to chant Mysterio is going to lose his mask and half of his kid fanbase? Which means his popularity would plummet worse than the USA Stock Market? Yeah..and I believe the Cubs are going to win the World Series.
Winner: Rey Mysterio

Glide:
I was actually kind of looking forward to this match until the match stipulation screamed out “OH!  COME SEE DAVID OVERCOME THE ODDS AND TOPPLE THE GIANT!”  At which point, it became every other Rey Mysterio match and therefore at best one or two “oh, cools” with no intrigue whatsoever.
Winner:  Look at me!  I am Rey Mastrio!  Booyaka Booyaka!

Ranger:  C’mon. It’s for the mask in the first PPV match of this feud. This isn’t rocket science.
Your winner…Rey Mysterio.

Vince:  Please, please, please Satan, let Kane win this match. Let them throw us a surprise.

Indy:  Kane has been pushed too hard, and Rey just isn’t as marketable without his mask. That, and this stipulation has been so barely publicised... I just don’t see it. I call it a give-away unless Batista lost to JBL, this match comes second, and we start a Batista/Kane feud. I predict an “out of nowhere” surprise win by Rey.
Prediction: Rey keeps the mask.

7) World Heavyweight Championship (Ladder Match): Shawn Michaels VS Chris Jericho

Akira:  Before anything else I’d like to express my UTTER DISBELIEF that Y2J got the gold in the RAW title scramble… not because he’s not worthy of it but by the circumstances leading to his victory. Anyways, the feud between these 2 had been settled so there’s less plot material to make it more interesting to watch. Michaels will sell brilliantly as he always has and probably bleed like a fountain again. He’ll also hit his trademark combo up to the Sweet Chin Music but with Orton being set-up to an impending rivalry with CM Punk when he gets back, Y2J is our main man for eeevil so…
WINNER BY REACHING THE BELT AND STILL WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION: CHRIS JERICHO
+LOGIC: Remember that lame rivalry between Y2J and JBL a few months ago? Now that Y2J is seemingly uber heel, imagine how the crowd will react to a heel VS heel rivalry for the World title? It’s definitely going to be interesting to see which heel the audience prefers: “The Savior” or “The New Stan Hansen”?

Jester:  This one is good. Chris and Shawn have been largely in control of this storyline and not the writers. I am definitely feeling Jericho as a different heel than he’s played before and it makes him more interesting. Michael’s is looking older, beat up and tired but that’s his gimmick here. I think this one might go to Michael’s here but he won’t get the title.
Winner:
Shawn Michaels by DQ, Jericho retains.

Curtis:  Oh Boy Oh Boy. I don’t often say that I’m jealous of The Vince, but the fact that he gets to report on these guys and their incredible rivalry every week, I must admit it....As much as I love reporting Smackdown every week, I’d give my left nut to cover the feud these guys have. But anyway, this one promises to be a classic and is the one match that makes this whole PPV worthwhile. Could be match of the year if it lives up to the hype. Big ending to the match here....a
Jericho win....and a big ending to their feud.

Phighter:
Jericho wins
. You know why? I think they're going to kayfabe up an injury for HBK to take more time off with, say maybe until the Royal Rumble. Jericho is going to keep on a streak. HBK wins the Rumble, and then he wins the World Heavyweight Championship against Jericho at WM24.

Glide:  As far as world titles go, WWE really does not like shuffling them hand to hand too fast unless it’s clearly set up to do so (Cena/Edge Money in the Bank, etc).  Jericho should have no trouble retaining at No Mercy, though I have to admit it would be a personal all time markout moment for me to see Shawn win this match.
Winner:
Chris Jericho

Ranger:
I really don’t know what to say about this match other than it’s about time. A ladder match between these two has had to have been on just about every dream match card in recent history. There are a lot of factors going into this match. Jericho just won the title, so that’s already something going against Michaels. Jericho also has Cade on his side, and they’ve been ever so slightly teasing at Cade starting something with Michaels. So while I don’t think Michaels is quite done winning world titles, I don’t see it happening at No Mercy.
Your winner…Chris Jericho.

Vince:
Who would Jericho feud with after this? We all want to see JBL vs. HBK. Shawn Michaels FTW.

Indy:
Was Jericho just a transitional champion to give HBK his very last run with the WWE Championship? But here’s the thing - Shawn already won his retribution match. And rumors abound that the feud between Jericho and Michaels comes to an end at No Mercy. The only way I can see this happening is if 1.) HBK gets the disqualification, and goes on to lay out Jericho, or 2.) HBK loses the match and takes time off, one way or another. Either way, I don’t expect poor HBK to get another run at the belt.... well, not unless we bring Orton into the mix immediately following. I would enjoy HBK winning here, then renewing the feud with Orton that happened last year around this time that also involved a retirement angle for HBK. But I expect Orton to be too tied up with his Second Generation stable to vie for the World belt that early into his return. But whatever.

Thanks for tuning into our preview, and you can catch No Mercy Sunday night on PPV and WWE.com webcast.

I think two guys said HBK/Y2J will end in DQ
How can that happen when it's a ladder match?

Yeah, Indy and Jester...explain how a DQ would take place in a ladder Match!?

I see Curtis retaining the title based on his predictions.

well barring all the predictions just one random thing...

if you were to choose, which of these guys would you prefer having a No Mercy moment? And I know both are highly unlikely

Team Xtreme- Matt ECW Champ, Jeff WWE Champ or...
DX- Triple H WWE Champ, HBK WHC

with this article, now I'm looking forward to No mercy (because in the past couple of days I never cared)

I wanna see Michaels getting that belt. I bet that HBK as a champ will increase the ratings and make the title matches more interesting. Let's face it Michaels is a perfect athlete. He is so good that he executed 2 moonsaults on WM 24 and we shouldn't judge him by the gimmick he had lately. GO HBK

This was an awesome article but the fact that only one of you believed in HBK is a bit unsettling. I know Y2J has Cade but picture this. Cade comes out and distracts HBK, but gets SCM for his trouble. Jericho pwns HBK and starts climning when REBECCA runs out and stops Jericho. SCM off teh distraction and HBK as champ shortly after...

You guys are absolutly right. I had a brain fart when I wrote that and forgot it was a ladder match. Go ahead and take your shots I deserve them. I change for Jerico to just retain by some kind of outside interderrence. I do not think they want to put the belt on Michaels at this time.

first of all, its going to be a champions reunion DX style. Michaels will win the match so that the two of them can be champs and he can retired with face. second if there is a god he will force rey into losing and maybe we will be rid of him for good! lets face it the guy sucks!!!!!!!! finally, matt will retain just on the fact that hes one of the few that still has some talent!

At this point Evan Bourne is the best highflyer, and Please let Kane win, hes the one maybe along Michaels that deserves a WHC title, but instead he will prob. job to a midget called Rey M.
