Booker T's interview for The Sun

The Sun has recently posted an interview with former WWE and current TNA wrestler Booker Huffman, better known for his in-ring name Booker T. On this interview, the six-time World Champ speaks his mind about leaving WWE for TNA, backstage environment on both companies, his King Booker gimmick and Michael Hayes.

Perhaps the most remarkable quotes from his interview are related to the demoted WWE Vice President, Michael Hayes who was recently punished after being accused of making racial comments:

"I never had any problems with Michael Hayes.

I feel like that issue was just one person not knowing the other.

I’ve known Michael for many, many years... and Michael always thought he was black.

He was always saying black things in a black way.

I think that whatever happened up there was taken out of context and has been blown way out of proportion and they’re feeling it right now in so many different ways, and this is just one of them.

And they always say – you reap what you sow."

You see here's the problem. This "saying black things in a black way" is very often just an excuse for dark-skinned people to be able to get away with being racist. There I said it. But it IS TRUE. Look at some of the 'comedy' out there for instance. There's tons of that about and it's plain wrong. I don't mean that in a "if we're not allowed to do it why should they be" way - not at all - not even thinking that there IS a "we/they" in the first place. It's people, belittling people. It's nastyness. Nastyness within fun, in a clique, that is humorous - whatever - the root is that you're saying something you know is hurtful to somebody.

If you were to just step back, though, and look at what's going on, the big picture - skin colour means NOTHING. All it is, is a built-in tan, built up over years of a large number of people living more in the sunshine than others. That's it. No cultural, musical, political nonsense or whatever other label, stereotype or typecasting. A tan. The sooner people stop treating each other differently because of such a ridiculous thing, the better we'll all get along. In fact we should really all start calling a spade a spade, and instead of saying race, say skin colour. Because that's what people mean when they say race, isn't it? It's a euphamism for skin colour.

And please nobody come back at me with "freedom of speech". The point ISN'T that you shouldn't be allowed to say racist stuff. Just like with ANYTHING anybody says - you should be allowed to say it - and then deal with the consequences of saying it. But that's not the point - the point is that why on earth would you WANT to say it?

ps. I understand people are brought up in different ways, and everyone doesn't always realise a particular thing or other - I wish no harm on Micheal Hayes. Good if he gets better from this attitude and has no problems with anyone any more. I just hope nobody thinks that he should be persuaded to continue to make racist comments. That would be a very bad thing all around.
