Earl Hebner on the Montreal Screwjob: "If it was today, I would never do it."

The Sun.co.uk has posted an interview with wrestling referee Earl Hebner. During this interview he talks about the difference between WWE and TNA (he has worked for both promotions) in terms of treating their fans. He also discusses about his son being in the business.

When asked about his impressions on the infamous Montreal Screwjob, he states: "I love Bret Hart to death. It was something I was asked to do. Told to do, in fact. If it was today, I would never do it.

WWE has treated me, my brother and my son awful wrong for the things that we did. Especially my brother, who took care of the office on the road for a long time and made them lots of money.

I did the bad things to get the jobs done because some of the other refs didn’t want to do it or didn’t know how to do it. You've got to be a team player.

If I’d have known then how I was going to be treated later in my career with WWE, I never would have done it. But at the time I didn’t know. It’s all hindsight."

Zip it buddy. You know you wanted to do it all along. Go on wikipedia search this dude up. "The most famous referee in history". Who knows how much they paid him to do it. And being treated bad has nothing to do with the screwjob. He shouldn't sold WWE merchandise without permission anyways. If they offer me to screw Bret Hart in his home country. I'd do it. Shawn Michaels is a hypocrite too, trying to pretend that he didn't like what happened and has nothing to do with it. He knew all along and played his role well. He try to pretend to be unhappy when in the truth, that's probably his best reign ever. I mean god, everyone knows that he hates Bret Hart. If I remember correctly there was a rumour in the 90s that he piledrove Bret Hart on the locker room floor. Only person I feel sorry coming out of the screwjob is Vince, poor dude got punched(even though he faked the fall) spit in the face and cursed at and forced to publicly apologize. Oops, too much :D Shutting up now

    lol.

i always wait for your comments on my news.

in fact, i think that if we can paraphrase what hebner means, he says: "if wwe had treated me better i'd still feel ok for screwing the man whom i had just sworn by my children i'd never do such a thing." it's just that i won't post my opinions inside the news itself, i must wait and post it on the comments

Call me crazy, but I always thought all parties knew about the screwjob, Bret included. If Bret had jobbed cleanly that night, or even took the belt with him (which would make it vacant like when Chyna took the Women's Championship with her), nobody would talk about it. Now, 10 years later, people are still talking about it. If you ask me, Bret should be happy with the screwjob, it made one of his WWE moments a classic.

I think no one can blame vince for what in did if we look deeply at those times...
Come on, sure bret hart has always been loyal... but the truth is that vince couldn't keep him at a fair salary, so he had to let him go to WCW. And although Bret said that he would never take the WWE title to WCW, but... Alundra Blayze probably said the same and... we all know what she did... the WWE women's title on a trash bin, LIVE on nitro. WWE wouldn't survive if the same happen to the WWE Championship.
And the proof that WCW only wanted bret because he was the WWE champion was that after the screw job when he went to WCW they couldn't make anything from him and came up with the excuse that he was a broken champion.
