Ric Flair said this about fellow WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart on a radio show:
"He is a pissant in the history of wrestling. He has the nerve to compare himself to me. Let's get realistic. If you put Bret Hart in your left hand and me in your right hand, compare the career... who is he? I wrestled everybody in the business, for an hour each night. Harley Race, Dory Funk, Jack and Jerry Brisco, who is Bret Hart? He is a legend in his own mind. He lives in his own little world... he screws his own family around. Who is Bret Hart? In my world he is a nobody!"

yea I agree with vince, I mean like ric said he could wrestle people an hour every night. Bret nicked some of his moves and still could only wrestle for about 5 minutes. Ric paved the way for bret and most over stars to appear in the wrestling industry and then Bret talks trash about ric and the wwe, he is a true ass.

Flair's right. Bret Hart has not right in naming himself the best ever. Ric Flair, Shawn Michaels and Undertaker have proven themselves above Bret Hart. Thank go the Montreal Screwjob took place

I wouldn't really care about this but come on Ric in your own mind no one can be better then you. For me personally I'd put Bret over Ric, I've watched some of Ric's matches and they aren't bad but they aren't the greatest either in my honest opinion....Just let it go Ric.

I've seen all of Flair's televised and PPV matches since 1985. I've seen all of Bret Hart's matches since 1983. While Flair's matches were LONGER, Hart's were far MORE EXCITING! I was always on the edge of my seat when Bret was in the ring. Flair was...nothing big really. Even his steel cage match against Harley Race...not really impressive. Bret went out on his own terms. And as for that "Motreal Screw Job" garbage, I'm sorry, but the real person to blame for that is Vinny Mac. Did Bret contribute to it? Yes, he admits so in his own book. Did HBK contribute to it? Most definitely. But the lion's share falls onto Vince. So, while Flair may be the most decorated world champion, he also has the illustrious title of being the one who has LOST the most titles...and he lost those titles to really nobodies. I mean, please...Ron Garvin?!? Are you serious? At least Hart has...well...heart. And if anyone talks about anything, remember the 2 distinct and untouchable records that Bret holds: 1) most matches to defend the WWE title for 6 months straight (until he lost it), and 2) the ONLY wrestler to have NEVER injured anyone that he was wrestling with or against. And, in my view, that's why Bret Hart really is "The Best there IS, the best there WAS, and the best there EVER WILL BE." Now, to call up a few radio stations here in local Detroit and complain about Flair being a complete and utter stooge.

at the time of using the catchphrase, yes Bret was the best there is, the best... you know the rest. The problem is current day he isn't like HBK, Taker or HHH. They've beaten the big names of yesteryear and today. Bret had a solid career and made a huge name for himself in his era.

To those who say Ric Flair can't wrestle, have you EVER seen him work in match that was before 1998?
To Comment #3: Harley Race, Ricky Steamboat, Dusty Rhodes, Terry Funk are nobodies? You have no idea what you're talking about. Do yourself a favor and stop watching wrestling, because you obviously don't like it.
That being said... Ric was really being an arse here. At the end of the day, Bret Hart was a standard bearer for WWE and an influence to many wrestlers. And that makes him more than a nobody.

Comment #19, It's obvious u were born during the Ric Flair Era. That being said, this wasn't AWA, where the fighting was Black and White, Ric Flair had his fair share of entertaining matches, but who is he to compare himself to possibly the most "Entertaining" and by far most Technical Wrestler in the Wrestling Industry. Both had great careers, thus, me being the age that I am, Find Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels, Bret hart vs. Yokozuna, Far more entertaining than the Grudge matches Ric Flair had in all his Career. Say what you say, we all have different opinions; in mine, Ric, is the nobody.

Bret Hart is a more technically sound wrestler and has beaten everybody in the business who was around at his time. Ric Flair still can't let it go that he lost the belt to Bret at Saskatoon in 1992...Flair just let it go.

But that's just my opinion!!

I think Ric Flair was okay during AWA and that, but in WWE he sucked. He can't wresltle and he was getting more fat as time went on, and I wish he would stay out of the WWE Ring now, he's retired, so stay out of the damn ring, Ric!
I like Bret Hart, he had exciting matchs in the day, I thought Vince never treated Hart right, and I really hate how everyone still likes HBK after the Montreal Screw Job. HBK and Flair are assholes.

look the bottom line is Ric was over the top, Bret admits all the mistakes he made in his, he admits he was an ass at the time of the screwjob and took his fair share, he took the wcw job cause he needed money for his children he didnt wanted to retire with nothing left like Dynamite Kid or anyone else he grew up with.

Re Comment #23:
The "Montreal Screw Job" is called that because WWE back then had a rule that said that no champion would ever lose the title in their home State/Province (let alone hometown). Well, Bret was slated to drop the WWE title to HBK. However, Bret wanted to do so in the US (basically at the next PPV). Vince initially agreed, but then found out that Bret was being courted by Ted Turner's WCW, so Vince "secretly" told HBK and Gorilla Monsoon that the match in Montreal WOULD be where Bret dropped the WWE title to HBK. Bret wasn't told, and the match initially ended in a draw (time limit reached). Then Monsoon got onto the ring microphone, and stated that the match "must have a winner" so the match was reinstated (aka restarted) and HBK (and Monsoon both) informed the ref that Bret was dropping the title, so...Bret...unaware...got "screwed". Hence the name "Montreal Screw Job."

@19: I was born in 1986, and my first time watching wrestling was with Bret Hart and Undertaker. And while Flair did start in AWA it was NWA where he became a household name... not to mention TV was in color by then... proves that you are talking out of your arse. This is why I hate WWE marks. Ric Flair was MASSIVELY popular and was an icon in his day, and noted as one of the greatest interviewers of all time.

Comment 30, I'm sure you think everyone who watches WWE is a WWE "smark", The way you talk, you sound like you think Cena is an awesome "face". You're nothing but a Ric Flair tool. Ric Flair is popular no doubt, we know that's a fact, but the way you're talking it sounds like you're one of his "smarks". I grew up watching WWF and APW "all pro wrestling" where I lived 20 min away from, I met alot of WWF/WWE Superstars there including sandman, Crash Holly and Dalip Sihng known in the wwe as "the great kahli", I'm no where near a smark, But all in all, I would never put Ric Flair over Bret Hart. No matter how bad you want this to be true. Grow some brains and read when people say they have their own opinions.

@32: You know NOTHING about me. I hate Cena. And if you paid attention to my previous statements, I never put Ric Flair over Bret Hart. What I DID say, was that Flair IS a legend, and I also say Bret is one in his own right. But that's okay, 6th grade reading comprehension was obviously not your strong suit.

6th Grade reading comprehension? Lol dude, I got to the University of California Lost Angeles, and I have reading comprehension? You obviously don't know the definition of "Opinion" is. I said it 2 times, everyone has their own opinions, and by the looks of what you're saying, my instincts tell me you would put ric flair over anyone. Of course he's a legend, I admitted that on my last statement and you come attacking me that I "should stop watching wrestling" that i'm a "smark", that I have "6th grade reading comprehension". That sounds just like somebody who attacks someone because they have nothing else to say. Btw, I don't know nothing about you, as you don't me. I like what I like, and I definitely don't GAF about what you like. Quick talking outta your @ss and realize these comments are all opinionated. You're 23 years old, and talking trash, that's just awesome. That's all I gotta say. Grow Up.

@34: LOL for still not realizing I didn't even say 'smark'. I said 'mark'. Man, I'm glad I didn't "got to" UCLA like you. And you DID bash me, calling me a "Ric Flair tool" and a "Cena smark".
Now, in terms of ringwork? I would put Ric Flair over a lot of the current WWE hacks (Cena, Great Khali or "Kahli" as you put it, Randy Orton, to name a few). And compared to most of the other workers in the US in his prime he was definately one of the best. But put ANYONE over him? Nah. Off the top of my head... Kenta Kobashi, the late Mitsuharu Misawa, Keiji Mutoh, and Minoru Suzuki are more skilled at ringwork than Ric Flair, and that's just to name a few.
I also love how you try to backpedal and say you said he was a legend... what you said was he was popular. Jeff Hardy is popular, but that does not make him a legend, because his popularity comes from 12-year-old girls who fantasize about him. And as far as talking trash goes... don't dish out what you can't take. Oh, and one last question: Where is "Lost Angeles"? I heard of Los Angeles, but not Lost Angeles. Sounds like a level in Earthworm Jim. Oh well. Say hi to Bob The Killer Goldfish for me.

@36: It's not my fault that you base an argument on complete falsehoods, make frankly SILLY errors (and no, I don't spell check either. I guess being literate helps there), and talk about how I'm talking out of my arse when you are the one putting words in my mouth and talking trash while claiming you don't. And there is a difference between being a mark and a smark. And while Smark is short for Smart Mark there is a difference between those as well. Simply put, a mark takes everything at face value, they buy into WWE's propaganda and immediately assumes WWE and TNA are the only wrestling promotions out there. Many of them also don't understand it's a work (believe me, there are those that actually think it isn't scripted). Smart Marks are those who watch wrestling, understand it's a work and appreciates it for what it is, and also follows more than just the convienent mainstream garbage. Smarks basically think they are smart marks, but instead they do little but critizise everything about the business... Scott Keith is an example of this. The main difference between them and Smart Marks is a little something that me and Mutoh (who I am a MUCH bigger fan of than Flair, btw) call Pro-Wres Love. So... you're wrong there too. As far as a good education goes... well, mine is obviously better than yours so I don't have much to worry about.
Oh, and FYI... if you think 60 WPM is fast you have NO IDEA. I've seen people clock in at 100. Me, I'm around 45, give or take.

Good Points, except for one thing... Obviously Better than mine? How do you figure? lol. Basing out of arguments and grammar? Dude, I could care less about people being smarter than me, I do what I do and likewise. You can't say you "obviously" are. Experience is the only thing you beat me at, and I think you know where I'm getting at.

How would you feel if you had to live in a house with 11 other kids and a bunch of smelly old cats, with your dad taking young men down his basement all the time, to "teach" them wrestling moves. All this, while Flair grew up as rich fat boy son of a prominent physician. Buy Harts book and make your decision. Flair, sir, you are the pissant.

I really dont understand why people are so quick to defend Flair. He is obviously a self important asshole.
I never liked flair. I have seen a great deal of his matches including the much gushed over ricky steamboat ones back in the day. Really quite boring, really...
I like wrestlers for their mat ability, I couldnt care less for their "presentation" or mic skills. Flair was always annoying, and although he may have wrestled guys for an hour each night, those matches came no where near the intensity, technicality or excitement of brets matches. They bored me out of my seat. Bret could have a great match with anyone, and that's one of the many reasons why poeple think he was the greatest.
I can't stand wrestlers that just resort to blows all the time, cause we all know thats the most fake part of wrestling.
A typical Flair match.
Knife edge chop x3, suplex (badly executed) Irish whip to turnbuckle, Knife edge chop x8. (opponent come back). cowardly feint to groin punch. (pretending the last 5 minutes of abuse didnt happen). Knife edge chop. Repeat x10
At some point you might see a figure4, that is usually reversed.
Ten minutes into the match I am bored to the point of insanity.
Sorry Ric, compared to bret hart, you are the nobody.
